The Raconteurs- What do you think?

Hey guys I just picked up Consolers of The Lonely and was curious what you thought of this band.

I have been a long time fan of White Stripes and I've always admired Jack White for his distinctive guitar sounds and high intensity performances.

Anyway this cd is great. Its really dense though so Im going to have to listen to a couples more times but i love it. I haven't got the first one yet.

I wonder if they are any good live. i saw some clips on Youtube and they seem like they are.

I like their albums, especially "CotL", but they really surprised me when I saw them at Rockwerchter (in Belgium) festival last summer. The whole two singers aspect worked better than on the albums and the band was full of infective energy (drummer ir nuts!). I don't know if they are as good at every gig, but if they are, then I can say that they are definitely a great live band.

I would love to see them live! The CD is a must own

I'm actually a bigger fan of The Greenhornes (the other guys in the band), but The Raconteurs are certainly hooky and fun.

Im a big fan of the Racounteurs and of all three of the seperate groups but especially Brendan Benson. Caught them live at Reading festival a few years ago and loved it, would love to see them live now since CotL has been released.

I think in CotL you could see alot more of the direction Jack White had been trying to go with the White Stripes, as there were a few songs (cant remember off the top of my head) that resembled songs from Icky Thump.

They are great. I love CotL. The Switch and the Spur is perfect with all those vocals.

Very good band.

Adding to the love. I have yet to meet anyone who outright hates this band.

I too heartily endorse this band.

Is there anyway in which you can possibly hate them?

I really dug "Steady as She Goes," I really really really liked "Salute Your Solution," but I fucking LOVE "Level." The vocal back and forth on that last verse is stellar.

I guess if you're one of the three people on the planet that hates Jack White, you count? Dunno.

And this. It seems like a pretty simple song, but I find myself blasting it every time it comes on.

Jack White is single handedly saving music.

Testify. As much as I appreciate Raconteurs I'm eagerly waiting a return for The White Stripes.

Agreed. I'm surprised how many people say to me "How can you like the Raconteurs but not the White Stripes? That doesn't make sense". Weird.

I just heard "Carolina Drama" for the first time. I liked the hell out of it - but it's the first Raconteurs song I heard that felt more like a Stripes Song. I'm not even sure if I have a point with that - just an observation.

I don't like Steady As She goes, but I dig Salute Your Solution quite a bit.

Fantastic song. That, Top Yourself, and Salute Your Solution are my favorite tracks on that album.

Listening to "Blue Veins." I think it's the one song that I don't automatically like. There's seems to be a Pink Floyd thing going on that's almost distracting.

they are amazing live...and I dig them way more than the white stripes

a lot of it has to do with meg v. a really good rhythm section is no contest for me as a bassist

Finally got around to listening Broken Boy Soldiers. While any live version of each song best the CDs I really like the album. It a to the point pop rock album but has a surprising amount of experimentation and variety. I love the song Broken Boy Soldier. Its just really creepy.

I also picked up Brendan Bensons The Alternative to Love which is a very good pop album.

I actually prefer Broken Boy Soldiers over Consolers of the Lonely by a wide margin. Their debut had a simplicity to it that established a singular, tight sound but still managed to throw in enough variety in the pot to keep things interesting. The melodies were beautiful and the riffage robust. Listening to Consolers of the Lonely, I don't know what the band was aiming for musically, other than a jam-fest, which sounds good on paper but fails to compel on record. It just doesn't satisfy, even in a band-playing-in-their-garage kinda way.

I agreed w/ that the first couple of times I listened to CotL, but once I saw them perform the songs live, it became my favorite Raconteurs album.
If you have a chance to see them live, I highly recommend it. They are definitely one of the best live bands around today.

Yeah, that seems to be the common consensus about the band live. Hopefully they'll be touring soon after The White Stripes get out their next album.

I wonder if this will be the standard for a while i.e. they all do an album together than scatter to do their own things and then come back for another album?
