Stooges' guitarist Ron Asheton found dead in his Ann Arbor home

Not much into reunion shows unless the band has some good new material (and the recent Stooges reunion album was pretty dire), but now I'm sorry I passed up the chance to catch them one last time. Guy could make some gorgeous noise.

It was gorgeous noise as you said.

I shall crank up Funhouse in his honor.

Sad. If you read Please Kill Me, he's one of the only people in the book that doesn't come off as a complete asshole.

Thanks for the unintentional reminder to pick up PKM, Z-Man. I just finished We Got The Neutron Bomb the other day and loved it.

Otherwise, this is getting more news coverage than I had expected...a few people who didn't even know who the Stooges were asked me about it. Kinda bizarre.

Please Kill Me is really great. Happy to learn that We Got the Neutron Bomb is good, I'll pick it up.

While Asheton's importance is undeniable, I prefer Williamson as The Stooges guitarist.

The Stooges came to Montreal this summer for the crappy Osheaga festival. I didn't go because I was sure they would suck. I was very surprised when the performance popped up in some lists of the best shows in Montreal for 2008. I was hopping I'd see them when they'd be back. Fuck.

I know I was all late, but seeing him reunited with the Stooges - twice - in the last two years will be something I hang onto inside for a while. He was this chubby, nerdy looking dude at the end, but as he stood there on stage, nearly immobile, while that sound came out of his guitar, and you knew it was something special. I'm glad I got to have his noise vibrate through me for a few hours. I hope he went peacefully.

I hear you Phil, seeing them at the Big Day Out a couple of years back only confirmed their magicalness for me. Easily a standout performance among the hundreds of shows I've seen.

Yeah, that book is rivetting in places but you don't end up with much respect for most of the people in it.

Fuck, another great band I'll never see.

Yeah, the didn't come anywhere near my home town on the last tour. I was hoping to catch them next time.

Asheton's death upset me a lot more than I would have thought. The list of people outlived by Iggy Pop continues to stun me.
