Anyone know when hotel rooms go on sale?
I haven't seen it posted yet, but they do have a RSS feed for updates.
The old Marriott next door has had rooms on sale for months. Got mine last year but they're pricey...like $500 a night. I figure I'll hang onto that one as insurance until something better/cheaper comes along.

Normally, I think rooms go on sale in early February but they don't seem to have a firm date up at the official site yet.

A friend who got in last year had luck with the 1-877-55COMIC line. I don't know how effective that'll be at this point in time since they haven't updated the hotel page yet.

I was just asking Goldberg about this before NOTORIOUS this AM.

Not that I want all you fuckers to buy all the rooms, but the Holiday Inn over near the waterfront where Devin and I stayed last year wasn't too far, and it was cheap.

We need to organize a get together.

I'd shack some of you guys up, but I only rent a room where I stay in SD.

We usually do. You're just not invited.

I stayed at the one. It's not too bad and the rates are about as good as you'll get for convention time. I have no idea where I'm staying this year.

Didn't hotels and their Comic-Con rates go online in January last year?

I'm scared I'll completely forget and miss it again. This should be the first year I stay for more than a day.

I do 99% of my hotel booking through third-party sites but from what I've heard regarding CC hotel bookings, you don't pay anything or just a small deposit to reserve the hotel room and you'll pay once you check out, is that right?

In case anyone is still looking for a room the old fashioned way...

COMIC-CON HOTEL RESERVATIONS WILL OPEN THURSDAY, MARCH 19,
9:00 AM PDT

On or after March 19, call the Comic–Con Housing Desk at 1–877–55–COMIC (1–877–552–6642) or 212–532–1660 or come back to this page (bookmark it now!) for more info and online reservations.

Hotels at Comic-Con International are always hot commodities and most book up early. Room inventory is constantly monitored for availability and updated frequently. Visit this page or call the Comic–Con Travel and Housing Desk at 1–877–55–COMIC on or after MARCH 19, 2009. Outside the U.S., please call 212–532–1660. Please do not call the phone numbers before that date, as they will not be operational until March 19.

NOTE: We have not been allotted enough rooms by the hotels to meet the demand. Rooms do fill up within the first few hours so you may want to book a room directly with the hotel of your choice now.

March 19: Battle of the Browser Refreshers
post #13 of 36
If you know where to look, there are rooms already available. I've reserved, cancelled and reserved a cheaper room at a different hotel all over the last few months, all at hotels in the immediate vicinity of the convention center. Waiting for March 19 is just asking for a world of hurt.
What are you using? I've been using the usual sites: Expedia, Orbitz, blah blah but I don't know if the rates being offered now are decent.
I'm just using the sites for hotels in the area that I'm already familiar with. It's kind of a hit-or-miss proposition. But it's a lot easier than doing losing your temper at the annual busy signal/site crash jamboree.

Fuck Travel Planners.
Bump.

I'll be there. Will you?
Yep.
So far the Thursday programming is all they have up, but it's pretty clear I'm just going to be planting my ass in Hall H until the end of the show.
Yep. They're wasting no time though. Can't wait for AVATAR.
So I just finished going through the whole 2009 schedule and I have to say, this is probably the weakest Comic-Con line-up I've seen in many, many years. It starts with a pretty amazing Thursday but then quickly dries up for the remainder. YMMV. I guess I'll be spending a lot of time on the dealer room floor this year. And getting drunk in the evening.
Thursday and Friday are pretty insane but Saturday, unless you're big on TV, is kind of weak, and then Sunday is waste. I wouldn't say it's the weakest line-up (last year was definitely weaker), but there are some glaring omissions like "Scott Pilgrim", "Prince of Persia", "Cabin in the Woods", and "The Expendables".
The holes in my Hall H schedule are filled by some video game (Alright, Halo) stuff, and also trying to get over to the EA Lounge to give Left 4 Dead 2 a go. Mid-Thursday opened up a lot for me after they pushed Avatar back to 3:00 PM. I don't even know what the hell Avatar is, but I'm totally swept up in the Comic Con hype so I have to be there or my head might melt.

ETA: Although, the only panel I can't miss is LOST on Saturday... And I guess some comic stuff.
Actually, you really can miss the LOST panel. Judging from last year, they've got nothing for ya.
No Scott Pilgrim? That's a huge surprise.
I'm hoping that seeing as though this year's panel is leading into the final season there will be something worthwhile. Although, once the show's over and they can talk about how they got from concept to finale is probably the panel to be at.

I'll probably check it out but more because I want to see the panels for "Extract", "Zombieland", and "Iron Man 2" afterwards.

I have a 4 day pass, for the first time!, and of course I can only attend Sat+Sun.

I'm getting there Friday night, what are some good places to get a drink around there?
Also looking for recommendations of a good bar since the joint my friends and I used to hang out in has turned into a family restaurant. Plus the Hong Kong Nite Club got closed down or something!

Also looking for any consolidated lists of what movies are being previewed during Con. I know District 9 and The Mystery Team are, anything else? When, where and how?
So, do you guys want to get together one night for drinks?

Ninja Assassin and Trick 'r Treat will also be there but I'm not sure when or where or how.
I think Trick 'r Treat is screening at the convention center. It might be the same night as District 9.
re: ccubed - Star Bar on E Street. Utter fucking dive. You won't see a single "Comic Con Celebrity" there as it's the opposite of a scene. Only cheap, plentiful liquor. Broke my finger out front of the place last year.

I'm throwing it out there again, my days/nights are quickly filling up (I'm very, very unimportant) but I wouldn't mind making some time for a Chewer gathering if anyone's interested. If not... Well I don't like you either!
I'm down for whatever, night preferrably.
Who's going to the District 9 screening tonight? I'll definitely be there.
