Scrubs Season 8 - Page 2

Also, is it just me or is Chalke getting hotter as she ages? I mean, not so much Cookie Pants Elliot from last night, but in general?
I would bang the bejeezus out of Cookie Pants Elliot. I've loved Chalke from season one.

Slight disappointment: the episode was actually called "My Cookie Pants", and when I saw the title (before watching the episode) I had a flash of hope that we would see Chris Meloni's pediatrician character again, because his favorite doll's name is Mr. Cookie Pants. Alas, no.

Still, really glad they've recaptured some of the old magic, and the new interns are funny. Zwa!

My Cookie Pants was great, but I don't want to gloss over My ABC's. Elmo defensively asking if Jo was JD's woman had me rolling.
It's so nice to see this show back on form again. And yes, Elmo asking JD if Jo was his woman nearly killed me too. Great stuff!

"Angry woman leaves, another angry woman enters... that one was for you, Pop-pop."
Boy you said it. I've seen every new episode, and there hasn't been a dog in the bunch. Not one bit of filler. They really decided to go out with a bang and it shows.

I especially liked the way they're writing JD now. He seems like a real human being for a change. A little eccentric sure, but his dialogue, especially that monologue with the new intern Jo, rings true finally.

I like Jo.

I watched the show for the first time this season and I have to agree, it is funnier than it has been in at least 4-5 years.

Also, what job does Kelso have now that he has retied from the hospital?

Professional muffin eater, apparently.
The answer is that Kelso does nothing. He hangs out at the hospital's CoffeBucks and takes massive advantage of his free, unlimited muffins for life gift. A few episodes back he made mention of some financial problems, I think.

ETA: or what the Leper said.

"These are my muffin slacks."

I've only watched the Sesame Street episode, and it's the best episode they've done in years. So funny. The Xray with the hand inside, the interns (Ed is killing me and i have a huge crush on Jo) and Kelso asking Donnie muffins all the time were great bits.
It was really weird watching the first episode last night, as they were introducing characters we mets 4 episodes ago, and the opening clip of Kelso gave me some serious deja vu. Then someone told me that the first episode was in fact meant to open the season, but they decided to switch it up and recut this episode to have it later.

Now I hear there's no new episodes until March!

I have heard nothing about this, and my DVR tells me there are two new episodes next week.
pretty good stuff, it is harkening back to the glory days, but still somewhat lacking.

Aziz Ansari is going to be a massive star though (human giant represent!). He owns the show when he is on screen. I really hope they explore him more. It would have been nice to continue the show with him, unfortunately (or fortunately) he is already in the new Amy Poehler show.
Possible Spoilers....but nothing major in my opinion

I am a grad student at william and mary and Bill Lawrence is a 90' alum and spoke tonight.

he said there is still the possibility of more seasons but he will indeed not be there, he sort of hopes it ends with him and braff leaving this was heavily implied but not said out right. He is worried if it does go on that Aziz Ansari will not get to do it because he is cast on the office spin off

also he gave a HUGE hint at the janitors name....I dont want to say it but it is the name of the janitor that neil flynn voiced on Clone High. You can find this on IMDB if you want.

other than that they showed a lot of gags reel from season 8 which showed clips from the janitors wedding on an island beach (where bill lawrence has a character), clips of Ted having his girlfriend, clips of Sean (elliot's ex) back on the show who is supposed to be dating Kim I think.

He handed out the script of the final episode to a couple kids who answered some trivia questions as well.

That is all I can really remember, there were more fun random little tidbits since he did an extensive Q&A. He was a really cool guy and was out at the bars the night before hanging out with all us college kids.

Sorry if I should have arranged this post a different way since there are possible spoilers to some.

Kinda lame for ABC to pick up the show and have it just be one season, but having it without JD would be like all the other ill-fated shows where the main character leaves and the show continues.

And as a side note to her comment to the guy she was drawing blood from that he had a vagina--I went to the doctor earlier that day and had blood drawn for my usual 6-month cholesterol check. I told the nurse that I have to lie down when I do it, or else I'll fall down. Now, I have no adversity to watching them draw blood, needles, or blood in general, it's just my body's reaction whenever I give blood. So after I tell the nurse this, she goes into this, "Well, that's why us women are here--so you silly men don't have to look at the needles or give birth or go through any painful stuff like that." I bit my tongue, considering she did have a needle in her hand (and if you've ever had blood drawn by someone who is incompetent, it's painful as hell), but I wanted to say, "Fuck you, Jo! It's not my fault!"

Like Spin City with Charlie Sheen? Actually, that wasn't too bad.

Actually, the great thing about Scrubs is the strength of the entire ensemble. If JD leaves all you really lose are the fantasy sequences and the VO narration, and since several excellent episodes have been from the POV of other characters you could arguably continue the show with a rotating set of narrators. As for the fantasies, is it going to kill anybody to never see Floating Head Doctor again?

True, but the heart of the series is JD's transformation from a "scrub" to a real doctor and his peers relation to that transformation. Without JD, I don't think the show works as well.

Uh... didn't Dr. Cox used to have a daughter? Did Jordan eat her?
Ukelele Girl was absolutely adorable.

Not great episodes last night. JDs back to being an emotional cripple. Great.
How was JD back to being an emotional cripple? His need for Dr. Cox's approval? That's been a hallmark of the character from the show's earliest days. Not only that, but I actually thought it was handled in a hilarious manner last night, culminating in JD's freakout in the cafeteria. In addition, I thought it was pretty fascinating that the writers have JD sort of stepping into Cox's shoes now as the rogue doctor. I'd actually like to see them explore that more: Cox bound by his administrative constraints as Chief of Medicine with JD looking for ways to get around the administration for his patients. Of course, they couldn't go too far with that or they'd betray the characters.

Your cafeteria example is precisely what I was thinking of. The new dynamic, with JD stepping into Cox's shoes, is a good one and should be explored more. What I would've liked to see is JD actually step away like he threatened. That would be a bold new direction for the character. Instead, he jumped back in to "help" Cox. It just reeks of the previous seasons and it didn't hold up with the quality of the previous six episodes.
I thought these were fine, and I like how they're now using Cox to explore the struggles of being at the very top the same way they used J.D to explore the struggles of being at the bottom back in the day. The way the show's gone a full circle and the characters are being moved towards the natural conclusions of their arcs makes me think it would be a really bad idea to try and carry on after this season. Some kind of spin off might not be the worst idea in the world though.
Why wouldn't J.D. jump in to help Cox, even when he previously threatened to step away? That seems completely in line with his character. The problem I have with the cafeteria scene is that we've seen J.D. freak out over Dr. Cox burning him far too many times for the joke to work anymore. The punchline was stale, but J.D. sticking by Cox makes sense.

I'm impressed with this season so far. I actually really, really liked My Lawyer's In Love if only because Sam Lloyd is fantastic and frankly, his screen time in this episode felt refreshing.
I actually LOVE Kelso this season.
His speech to Jd on the first episode was really touching. And his relationship with Cox is great. It really works. Finally the characters evolve. I love this season.
I totally agree about Kelso. He's always been a favorite of mine but this season has really given him a lot more juicy character work-- and we're only 8 episodes in.

The new dynamic between him and Cox is great. I particularly loved seeing Kelso "outing" their friendship in the cafeteria.

She was deceptively alluring. It's as if none of her features should make for an attractive person, but mix them all together and add a ukulele -- and voila! -- suddenly I'm smitten.

Thus, I had to Google-stalk a bit. This is her. She writes songs ... and does comedy ... and acts ... and builds sandcastles(?!).

Part of the reason I buy it is the way it kicked off with Cox's awkward 'I miss you' speech which managed to be entirely consistent with both characters. Having them develop a relationship like that was pretty much a necessity of the Cox chief of medicine story, but they've managed to do it without it feeling forced or contrived, so kudos to them for that.
The Janitor's comment about if he was really in The Fugitive was brilliant.

First episode seemed very weak though...
I'm ready to call it: This show is officially greatness again. Retired Kelso is probably the best thing they've done since Season 4.
It's refreshing to see a show that realizes it lost something along the way, decides to go back to what worked without stalling any forward momentum, and manages to accomplish it.

Makes me want to punch Chris Carter in the nuts even harder now.
Nice to see them finally acknowledge the homoerotic heights to which the bromance has soared. And nice callback to the musical episode.
I'm confused. Did they dump a new episode on Wednesday? It seemed new, in that I don't recall ever seeing it.
Yes. New night and time!!!! Ooh, Aah!

Hmm... setting up black JD to replace white JD?

I think that was the plan when the season started, as there have been a lot of episodes focusing on the new batch of interns. But, Sarah Chalke (I think) basically said the show is over after this season. We'll see though.

Keep going with Eliza Coupe in the cast and I'll keep watching.

I wouldn't mind checking out a spin off, but after JD and Elliot leave the series, the Scrubs brand needs to be retired.

It could be really good, or it could be another After MASH.
Best show ever??
No JD. No Dr. Cox. No Janitor. No Kelso. No Carla. All interns, with Elliot and Turk. A taste of things to come if Scrubs comes back for another season?
I would say so Mike. I hate Jet Jackson by the way. Not so much in this episode but in the last. Ohh he is an over confident prick, original!
I'm actually really enjoying the episodes with out the usual cast. Kinda keeps it out of the usual repetitiveness that many other shows suffer from.

Bingo, although I've read that McGinley is game to come back if the show continues.

And I have to say, I was mightily impressed the Faison and Chalke were able to carry this episode. I thought Elliot's speech at the end was pretty moving, and a sort of meta way of explaining why some of the folks are ready to leave the show.

Last night's show was very good. I'd actually be very curious to see a potential spin-off with these characters.

I really really really really really really really *adopts Cox voice* reeeheeeeeheeeeeally hate Elliot and her softly spoken sad voice. Drives me crazy. I'd watch the interns if it didn't have her (but still had Kelso/Ted/Janitor etc)
IT was a great episode. And the new interns are funny. Had COX been on the episode, it would have been even more fantastic.
