Nip/Tuck Season 5-1/2 or 6?

Thread Starter
I've seen season 5-1/2 and season 6 online, but apparently this started tonight. DVR has it recording now, but I wanted to drop a note for anyone still with the show, since I saw zero promotion for this. I would have thought during The Shield it would have been all over the place, but I don't remember a single commercial.

Guess we'll see if this season is an improvement.
I've seen a ton of commercials for this but haven't been excited about this show in several seasons. That said, my DVR is also taping right now so there's that.

I really could have done without the cancer subplot.

The cancer subplot was really lame, unless it turns into something more. We know they won't kill Christian, but the next episode commercial hinted at it possibly leading to a bigger storyline.

The opening scene was really, really well done though. It was incredibly tense, even though we know how it goes down.
I didn't mind the cancer story, but the turnaround really bugged me. It should have been testicular cancer that hit Christian. Losing a nut would really hurt the guy. Well done episode, otherwise.
What was up with the crazy editing during the mammogram scenes? It was like... EXTREEEME!!!!

Another lol worthy moment was when Christian is banging the one girl, he's naked, and then out of nowhere he's wearing a vest, and then there's no vest again. I thought it was funny.

I liked how they referenced the dream episode.

Now all they need to bring back is the alien and UFO stuff...

I think they went the breast cancer route because it relates to how Christian treats women. He always ends up treating them with shit, and now he's been stricken with something that ordinarily affects mostly women. They're probably looking to change his character's view towards women by having him sympathize and relate to them more. I hope I'm wrong though; nobody would buy Christian as anything more than a selfish penis with feet.

Nip/Tuck has become one of those, at least for me, that I watch for the sake of watching. The show has long since lost its cutting edge factor and the storylines for the past few season have blurred the line between laughable and obsurd. Still, Christian's wit and his chemistry with Sean are pretty much the only reason I still tune in. The show can easily exist with just the two of them as the central charcters; keeping Julia, Matt, Wilbur, and any other retread character from previous seasons around has ruined Nip/Tuck. Its unfortunate the writer's couldn't see that.
This show has no ceiling on the fucked up-ness.

This is going to sound really, really naive and silly, but stick with me.

Nip/Tuck has developed a seriously fucked up vision of sex. OK, yes, the show has also had a lot of out there physical adventures. But they made sense. You would see Christian seducing his partners. Or when he took Kimber to the swingers gig, but you could see that things weren't really right for them there.

Now we go from Shawn teaching one class to getting blown by the hot girl in class, in literally ONE edit. And how is Shawn scoring all this tail in a wheelchair. The girls aren't a bit apprehensive? At least Christian has a bit of trouble getting his between the Craig's List tramp and Kimber. He's trying to work for it at least, which he always has. Then Shawn's hot chick (never got her name) has the weird baby fetish that they develop over two scenes, but was horribly obvious from the first scene. The writers have lost any idea of how to create a slightly nuanced, or subtle at times, plot or character development.

And then, what are they doing have Christian get it on with Liz? That kind of hurts both characters. Liz has always been the smartest of the bunch, and there is no way she would have let that happen even a season ago.

At this point, I'm just happy Shawn is out of the damn wheelchair. Also, the Doogie Howser surgeon they brought in might make the show worth watching all season. How freaked out he was when the patient's partner came into the bathroom was pretty much priceless.
Glad i stopped watching last season. Sounds even worse.
I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by the weird pacing of the sex on this show. The jump to Shawn and baby-fetish chick was really jarring, as was the Christian and Liz hookup. But then, the trainwreck nature of this show is one of the few reasons I'm still watching. That and to see what ridiculous one-liner or asshole move Christian will make next.
YEah, the show is pretty bad. But as you mentioned, its got that trainwreck feel. Its seems the writers are just throwing so much crap at the wall and hoping something sticks. Def. agree that Christian and Liz having sex was a mistake. Sean getting it on with a young sexed up resident isn't a stretch because she probably just admires the guy.

As terrible as the show and storylines have become, the one thing i'll give the writers is the dialouge which is still quite good.
Did they have completely different writers for the first half and the second half of this season? Most of the plot lines they built up before the long break have been almost totally ignored so far. Sean's daughter was on the freaking operating table when he was attacked. You hear Liz state that she will be okay when she goes into "d-tap" or whatever the issue was...then nothing so far in two episodes.

Did I miss the episode when Julia got her memory back? I remember Sean telling her they were still married, but I don't remember the sudden clarity and her realizing Sean lied to her, but they mentioned it in the season re-opener that she was still mad at him about it. I might just have a fuzzy memory of that one.

I freaking loved that Christian used his condition and pitiful state to sneak his tube snake in on Liz. That was vintage Christian.

I hope that young dude they hired as part of their practice gets interesting fast. I don't find him funny at all so far.

Julia doesn't have her memory back, not completely. In a throw away line she mentions she remembers some things, like her parents and holidays.
I forgot this was on. I haven't watched since the premiere. Doesn't seem like the show has improved any.
I haven't tuned in this season at all, as I've just decided to wait for DVD this time around, but I do have a question.

Liz sleeps with Christian? Is she questioning her lesbianism, or is it just because it's *Christian*?

Because Liz and Christian's relationship has always been one of the things I enjoyed most out of the show. That brother/sister love/hate thing, which now sounds like it's out the window...

I really don't know. It made no sense at all.

It's not the way it sounds. He's having trouble with the chemo drugs for his breast cancer and not being very successful in getting the 'tang (and that includes trying to pay for it). Liz has been really nice and nurturing. After a bad prostitute interaction (she elbows him in the stomach and steals his medicine after he tries to kick her out) Liz comes over and helps him clean up the mess from the scuffle.

After she gets Christian settled, he asks her to stay until he falls asleep since he doesn't want to be alone. I'm sure it was this emotional, needy side of Christian that just melted her heart and convinced her to stay awhile. While she was in bed with Christian and Christian was asleep, he rolls over and starts to feel her up and then eventually slips it in her. The look on Liz's face made me think that she didn't necessarily want it, but she didn't want to freak out, make a big scene and ruin the motherly relationship she had developed with Christian.

That was at first. After he starts doing her, it does seem like she enjoys it (enough to sort of quesiton her lesbianism later on). It's revealed after Christian rolls back over upon finishing that he was awake the whole time. For him, I just took it as a way to get some trim after failing earlier in the night. I don't think he really has any designs on getting with Liz.

Anyway, it was a really weird couple scenes, but I get the impression like the writers are not planning on changing the Christian/Liz relationship any, they just wanted a means for Christian to be able to crack jokes at Liz's expense about putting it in her.
I know they've been doing shock-value writing for a long time now, but last night's episode? WTF? We had:

1) Stupid unnecessary music video.
2) Death of Julia's chick while in surgery with Sean...and then Eden throws the ashes of her mother all over them later.
3) Crazy chick takes automatic turkey slicer to her boob, slicing it completely off. I love that in 2009 we can see the bloody side of a severed boob on tv but a naked breast is still a no-no (unless on a true medical show or nature documentary).
4) Christian and Liz together just doesn't seem right.
5) HOLY SHIT, Wilbur was talking!?

I actually really enjoyed last night's episode. It had it's melodramatic touches, but it was actually fun. The totally stupid rap video was good for a laugh, the crazy chick slicing off her boob was so over the top I couldn't stop laughing, and Christian hitting the bong and then Liz's new hunk boyfriend walking in and shocking Christian were all great scenes. I wasn't thrilled seeing Eden return with the "my mom actually shot you" story, but you can never go wrong with throwing ashes on people to generate some heat.
No show brings the crazy like this one.
So how does Julia remember that Portia DeRossi is her lover? Doesn't she have memory loss? I really hate her character and MAtt as well. I would love to see them written out of the show completely. I don't know why we still are forced to endure their presence. I can only hope Julia keeps her promise and moves to NY.

This last episode was actually quite good. From the white chick who thinks she's black, to the lady slicing off her boob in the waiting room. What will they cook up next.
This show is starting to bug me enough that I might drop it. The white chick being the black chick at the beginning was TERRIBLE. I know it was supposed to be over the top, but it wasn't funny. The only thing that got a tiny chuckle out of me was seeing that one blonde assistant singing the song to herself under her breath after the ass implant.

This episode also totally blew my previous post out of the water in regards to the Christian/Liz relationship. I thought Christian did her just because he knew he could and really wanted some poon. Nope, apparently sort of kind of loves her in his Christian way and she loves him back? Fuck that. Although, even with my complaints on that front, Christian's current arc is 100x more interesting than what they have Sean doing right now. His shit's a mess and boring to boot.

I liked that the crazy chick suggested the people sit on the other side just before she sawed her own tit off.

Oh yeah. And we are to understand that "last" season Julia gets shot and has memory loss. Immediately following this shooting Eve skips the freaking country and no one hears from her and NO ONE even considered the possibility that she was the one that shot Julia? What the hell?
Agree that Eve should have been considered a suspect from the very beginning. Its like the police in Nip/Tuck world don't exist. WTF! Anyway, I agree that the show has lost all semblance of credibility. I also agree that Christian is the most interesting character. But his relationship with Sean is still intriguing to me. They need to jettison every regular character except them.
I could watch a show simply called Life of Christian, and we follow him around watching him bang hot chicks and dropping his ridiculous one liners and quips about his ten inch or magical cock.

The scene where he was sitting there stirring the coffee while wearing those huge hater blocker sunglasses during the cancer patient meeting had me laughing... he looked so over the top.

I hope this episode was a beginning of a return to form. No annoying Julia, no completely over the top patients, just good old personal drama. Raj's destruction of his hand was brutal, even if we didn't really see it. I love that we have THE Christian Troy back in the mix. Sean was even interesting again. I wish the entire teacher/student bit didn't play out exactly like we knew it would from the first scene, but overall much better.
"What's the scar on your chest from?"

"I got stabbed. Stopped a robbery."

Awesome.
Man, I love this show. I don't care how over the top or preposterous it gets, as I tend to view it as a latter day Melrose Place-style soap. Sad, but not surprising, to see Raj going crazy so quickly.

Next week: Bradley Cooper and Katee Sackhoff!
Funnest show going right now.
The best thing to happen would be Matt going out Shane Vendrell style.

Lets review class: The guy has fucked a transsexual, dated a white supremicst, had a kid with a porn star/crackwhore, been a crackhead himself, fucked his half-sister, almost starred in gay porn, caught on fire when his place blew-up, ruined the career of a 17 old Harvard Medical School Grad, and most recently failed to at trying to go to Med Schol himself. Am I missing something?

Matt's life is a complete joke and Sean has legitimate cause to feel as such. Its really Matt's best choice.
Kinda sucks that they finally flesh out Raj's character then get rid of him. I had a feeling it was coming even though I was finally starting to like him. Oh well, good episode which really emphasized what a fucking loser Matt is and always will be.

Starbuck was looking goooooooooooooood.
Funny and yet disturbing episode. Aden was very entertaining as quircky actor and the guy with the giant penis problem was a good storyline with some great lines thrown in. How about Christian injecting the little one? Kimber should have been jetisoned along with Julia and her lesbian lover.

He also had a threesome with two girls, who dumped him for each other (not sure where that falls on the lame<->awesome meter).

Plus he looks like the spawn of Micheal Jackson and an elf.

Yeah, I've never found her attractive before this role. I guess I just find 'happy lunatic' sexier than 'psychotic lunatic'.

Christian's, "I got >< THIS close" killed me. As did Aden breaking his own neck. That was the funniest episode of any show (including comedies) in a long time.

I still say Kimber should've been The Carver's sister. It would have rescued that storyline from the cliff it careened off, and either written Kimber off well or made her a truly interesting character to keep around.
I just think Kimber's totally worn out her welcome. They've done almost everything imagignable with her character. What the hell is left? GEt rid of her or have her marry Christian. BTW, the previews for next week look interesting including one revelation that I find very hard to believe.

About Matt, you're also missing:

-Badly botched self-circumcision

I also forgot to mention the apparent "love" he had for an Israeli whose face was disfigured by a bomb blast.
Bradley Cooper was great last week. Him wanting to get photographed next to the guy with the huge cock (Castiel from Supernatural!) gave me the first out loud laugh from this show the whole season.

Really though, they should have just ditched Julia, Matt and Kimber last season/beginning of this season when they moved away. Otherwise were going to have the whole fucking Sean/Julia/Christian triangle and Kimber cropping up to act like a cunt whenver the writers feel like it. The Hearts and Scapels stuff was over the top but at least it gave the show a different taste for a while. And yeah the memory loss stuff and Eden popping up for an entire minute was bullshit. And they haven't mentioned it since I don't think.

They doing one more season after this and ending it?

Gross, dude.

I'm just kidding. Poor tree-man.

Shit! I didn't even realize that was him!

Last night's episode I think might have been my least favorite of the entire series. The tree man stuff gives me the heebie-fucking-jeebies, more than anything I've seen on any movie or tv show... I think I've seen a picture of someone's hands with a similar condition and I'm still trying to forget it. I had to have a high gravity beer to make it through the episode.

The stuff with Starbuck I found extremely stupid.

The Christian dying angle is bizarre... and I still hate any thought of him and Liz being together. I liked the scene with him and Sean smoking the cigars though.

Before this series is over, they need to bring back the Alien Abduction storyline... hell, they could even use it as the way to heal Christian!
I agree with you about the alien abduction story-line. I really wanted them to explore that further but they never did.

If Christian dies, the show ends. No way they could go on without him!!
Well, it -is- ending next season, so now's the time to put the leads in peril... you really don't know if they'll survive.

I have no idea how they can salvage a satisfying ending for this series, it has turned into such a bizarrely watchable mess.

This episode would be better if the show had any track record of letting characters go. There's no concern that Christian might actually die, because they always find a way to shoehorn characters back in.

Wouldn't fucking a tweed couch rub your dick raw?

I was kinda hoping they'd keep this guy around, he seemed pretty funny.

So next week is the season finale? What are the odds on Christian finding out he's gonna live next week?

What the hell. They're going like all sci-fi next week or something. I got a feeling we're going towards a "all a dream" thing for this season, with Sean waking up from a coma after being stabbed. The most convoluted, cliched, soap opera ending they can have. Then I hope everyone in the show dies.
The doctor screwing the couch was awesome. I didn't think the writers could top themselves, but yet again, they do. I hope they give that surgery table one hell of a scrubing.

Next week is the season finale already?? That seemed pretty fast. At this point i don't see how they can end this show with any semblance of dignity.
