My Bloody Valentine (1981)

So, just watched the dvd. They've got a feature that sticks all the deleted scenes back in the movie- and holy shit, it's like a completely different flick. Some truly great and twisted kills in this one- every single one was cut down! The MPAA really butchered this one.

Movie's still mediocre, but it was a surprise to see so much gore. The quality on the deleted scenes isn't that great, unfortunately.

I recall this one being pretty twisted as it is, from the one mid-80's VHS viewing I gave it (the boiled heart sticks out in my mind, for some reason). Added gore intrigues me more than a little bit.

I recall this being one of the better early slashers, but a lot of that was attributed to the fact that it was one of the first F13 formula abusers. Those seemed to really concentrate on the gore, as the later slashers seemed to become more and more dilluted throughout the 80's.

The acting is horrible, but I liked the mine setting and the outfit works as one of the more menacing killer uniforms out there. Might be worth a revisit just for remake comparison ammunition.

Wow, they found the cut bits. The full uncut version was always a horror holy grail.

They look like they found them in a ditch, but it's always a treat to see the footage get grainy, because you know some great gore is coming.

That old lady spins around and around in the dryer a few times!

How is the famed "blood shower" that I have always heard about? Does it live up to the years of hype?

I have this in my Amazon shopping cart purely for the cut scenes. I've never really liked the film that much, I've always found to be sort of...assy, but as a slasher film aficianado, I can't not own it, it looms too large in the culture that surrounds the genre.

I voted it in the horror draft, because My Bloody Valentine is one of the better F13 clones out there. The atmosphere is great, the miner suit is great as has already been said, and some of the characters are actually likable. Rented the vhs back in 2000, and became a fan. I have the re-issued Paramount dvd with the miner cover art rather than the crappy first issue heard and bloody hand.

I'll surely be picking up this new dvd with the deleted gore reinserted. About time the scenes were finally put in. George Mihailka has had the uncut scenes for a long time.

I believe I gave you shit for that pick Rene but I too will hopefully be picking this up. I didn't like the movie so much but I'm always more forgiving if my bloodlust is sated.

Yeah, I remember getting some flack for it from you Jake, but not as much as from everyone else for picking Event Horizon. It's all good, Jake.

I was over at Dvdtalk, and they said that some guy has the dvd already, and is posting the deleted footage on youtube. It's pretty crappy quality. The only one I actually found was the extended ending. I had read about Axel taking his own arm off, but actually seeing it was something else. Pretty gory. Can't wait for tuesday to roll around.

I actually defended the Event Horizon pick too!

Okay I'm done.

It's pretty brutal, but the old woman in the dryer was the one that actually shocked me. The killer chopping his own arm off was grotesquely underplayed, in a good way. I compare the disc to stuff like the uncut release of The Burning and The Prowler. Those were both exciting, but this is a huge difference rather than a few snips of good stuff.

Sort of on topic, the Blu-ray release of Friday the 13th has been announced as uncut, but they still haven't bothered with Part 2. The great news is that Part 3 will come with 3D glasses.
