Actually, I didn't intentionally do anything. I was really asking. No insult intended. E.H. is a favorite board persona as well.

They're baaaaaaack....

Quote:
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Just because they named their new CD "Yes," does not mean that British electro-pop duo, the Pet Shop Boys, will agree to just about anything.

PETA has asked the Pet Shop Boys to change the band's name to Rescue Shelter Boys.

The band has turned down a request from an animal rights group to rename itself the Rescue Shelter Boys.

The organization, the People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA), sent a letter to Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe acknowledging that its request, at first blush, might appear "bizarre."

But, by changing its name, the band could raise awareness at every tour stop of the "cramped, filthy conditions" that breeders keep animals in before selling them to pet stores, PETA said in its letter.
Next up, asking Hasbro to rename their toy line Littlest Humane Society.

Pet Shop Boys response: "Why have we done to deserve this?"

One day we're all going to find out that PETA is nothing more than a big hilarious prank, and oh how we'll laugh.

Yeah this is taking it into a Joaquin Phoenix-esque "Is This An Eleborate Piss Take/Hoax" territory. No serious minded person could ever rationally reach the conclusion that this is helpful.

And regarding the earlier mention of Cabbage:
Kimchi- this stuff is my crack.
I like to think that Andy Kaufman not only faked his own death, but subsequently took control of PETA.

Meet Farm Sanctuary

They're like PETA, except they rescue farm animals and educate the public rather than throwing paint on people. So, in other words they're sane.

Some of the animals are found during our investigations of stockyards, factory farms and slaughterhouses - animals who are abandoned at auctions when they could no longer walk, or thrown into dumpsters because they were no longer "productive." Other animals come to Farm Sanctuary from SPCA's and humane societies that need our assistance when farm animals are left to starve to death. And, some of the animals who reside at Farm Sanctuary took matters into their own hooves and escaped from the slaughterhouse! But all of the animals have one thing in common - they needed refuge from the cruelties of "food animal" production and Farm Sanctuary was there to provide the safe haven they desperately needed.
I'm pretty sure they don't steal them in the middle of the night, but it's great that an organization like this exists.

Absolutely.

Also, I was kidding.

Unless it's true...in that case, I'm both happy and disappointed.

The only act our Governor Pawlenty did that I was amused by was when he had a film crew tape him eating a nice walleye lunch. This was after PETA asked him to ban fishing. Ban fishing, in the state of Minnesota. I think these people just pull stuff out of their ass, "hey try this one!".
I honestly can't decide sometimes if they just pull this ridiculous nonsense for attention or if they're actually mentally unbalanced enough to believe their own bullshit.

That other group sounds really cool tho.
I think they're actual wackos about this stuff.

The latest bit of PETA insanity: The University of Georgia should use an animatronic bulldog mascot instead of a real one.

Quote:
The e-mail reads: "It is time for the university to put an end to the cycle of suffering endured by dogs who are brought into the world solely to represent the school's 'brand.' "
Yeah, that poor dog. Pampered, beloved, nothing to do but roam the sidelines on crisp fall days. How cruel.

Well, if it makes them feel better, tell them Mickey Mouse isn't actually a mouse, but a person disguised as one.

They're also terrorists!

Wut?

I don't know...have you ever hung around UGA fans for an extended period of time? That could be considered cruelty.

Joanna Krupa looks great in the new PETA ad, AND it's twisting the knickers of the religiously humorless. Win-win!

The sad part is this:

PETA is totally retarded. If the food industry had custom designed their foe for complete ridiculousness and ineffectiveness, they couldn't have done better

Complaining about Obama killing a fly? REALLY?!

The thing is, I love meat. I love it. And I have no problem with eating animals. But factory farming and animal cruelty? That I have a huge problem with. Where is the organization that is against animal cruelty but will hold it's tongue when I swat a fly?

Pretty much every single other environmental/animal welfare group in the entire fucking world. Stop acting like PETA has a monopoly on animal activism.

If there are other organizations, I've never heard of them. Why? Peta sucks all the air out of the room and the media only bothers to cover their fly swatting nude photoshoot silly stuff.

*PS I know there are others, but my point is that PETA would like you to think they're the only o nes

This. The Newkirk biography HBO put out last year was pretty fair about presenting an honest appraisal of what the other animal welfare groups think of PETA--i.e. it's an attention whore of a group run by an attention whore who does far more violence than good to the movement as a whole, which is a position with which i agree--and presenting Ingrid Newkirk as a very unlikable person for a documentary in which both she and the organization as a whole was involved.

Newkirk and PETA are basically unwitting patsies for the food and fur industry for the reasons the opponents of Newkirk articulate in that work. Because of what PETA IS and how they do things, all the industry has to do to poison the well on the reasonable positions that the animal welfare movement presents is paint them all with the PETA brush. "Sure, these arguments seem reasonable, but just look at these half naked freaks without jobs who are locking themselves in cages and comparing you and everyone you know to Nazis. This is what these people are all really like."

I think these PETA chicks are hot, and therefore right. It's a shame that more attractive young women don't protest naked to highlight whatever, come on girls - let's see the courage of your convictions!

Not you Princess Kate.

I wouldn't anyway because I've never understood what nudity has to do with animal cruelty. I mean, I get that it's PETA's big thing.... but why?

You are basically agreeing with me. I was saying that PETA is a terrible excuse for an animal rights organization because of how looney they are.

You have to ignore about 60% of the post to come to that conclusion.
