Wolverine And The X-Men

It is just 13 days til Wolverine And The X-Men launches on Nicktoons. WATXM is the first new series I am looking forward to this year. Of Course...I have high...X-Pectations, about this X-Citing new animated series about Marvel Entertainment's favorite Mutant Superheroes.
A friend of mine found the first 5 episodes. It's not a bad show. It actually takes a couple of cues from Grant Morrison, though it's aimed at kids, so they obviously won't take things quite as far.
I imagine most of us will wait for your thumbs up before committing, duke.

Man, I hate it when a group member gets a big head and wants their name up front. Diana Ross & the Supremes, Franki Valli & the Four Seasons. It just never ends well. Next thing you know, Wolverine will have canned all the other X-Men and replaced them with nobodies who he can push around with his diva hissy fits.

James Kimbell, I am X-Cited for the series already...and am encouraged by the fact that the series has already been green lit for at least 52 episodes.
Fuck Wolverine. He is a shit character and 98% of all X-Men comics published in the last twenty years have sucked to the extent that being raped by an angry clown would have been a reasonable alternative to actually reading any of them.
Wolverine's rise to prominence is directly related to the decline of modern comics. And western civilization.

I think Wolverine is one of the best characters ever created by Marvel. I have never understood how people can dislike a hero that is nearly indestructable, has built in metal claws allowing him to win nearly every fight he enters. Wolverine is especially interesting when either in Japan as Samurai and Paramour of Lady Mariko Yoshida, who fights her cousin...The Silver Samurai or when he is a co-owner of a nightclub in Madripoor, where he is barely disguised as...Patch, fighting white slavers, EEEEEEEvil dictators, Super Villains like Sabretooth, and Roughhouse. At the end of Chris Claremont's run on Uncanny X-Men...Logan became leader of the X-Men.

2009 is the year of...The Wolverine with the new animated series...Wolverine and the X-Men, the DTV Hulk Vs Wolverine and Thor (in seperate mini movies), and of course the best Superhero film of the year...X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Yes, I want to see Watchmen as well...But I am a Marvel fan first and foremost as far as my preference of comics, Super hero films (both animated and live action) and videogames.

Actually, his claws are bone and their just infused with Adamantium along with the rest of his skeleton.

... carry on.

It is a little known fact that Wolverine carries a whip in his valise.

I think this will convince a lot more people that Wolverine is shit than anything else. If we can just educate the world about who Duke Fleed is and then let them know that Fleed loves Wolverine that would be the end of Logan as a bankable character.

Face Man, Marvel has had Wolverine in a multitude of animated series, comics, video games, Novels, and toys long before I posted on...CHUD.COM. Wolverine is clearly Marvel's best and marketable character. So...Let me get this straight...If the world meets me, and learns that Logan is one of my Favorite Marvel Characters than Wolverine's popularity will fade away?

So I have that right? You are simply mistaken about many things.
"Best" and "most marketable" are almost never the same thing. And certainly not in this case.

Greg David, We will have to agree (gasp) to disagree...As Wolverine is both Marvel's Best and Most Marketable character.

Nope. I've decided to put this plan into action. Duke you are the human embodiment of what it must feel like to watch elderly morbidly obese people fuck. If you like something it should be enough to make other people change their minds about it.

Face Man, Why do you dislike me so? Your Screen Name is connected to one of the lead actors of 2 of my favorite series of all time, Dirk Benedict who played Lt. Starbuck in...Glen A Larson's Battlestar Galactica, and of course, Templeton "Face Man" Peck of...The A-Team.

Haven't been to the sewers in about a year or two, but it's assuring to know The Duke keeps on rocking. I feared I would never read a post such as this one again.

But fleed, what about the Punisher?
Also, Fleed, you're even wrong about Wolverine being the most marketable. Wolverine can't easily be marketed to young children, since he's ridiculously violent. Spider-Man is actually more successful from merchandising standpoint.

Greg David, Wolverine and The X-Men is most likely a Y7 rated series. You are correct though...A more violent Wolverine property, where he actually slashes people is Hulk Vs, and that is...PG 13. The original 90's X-Men cartoon was also rated...Y7. I also bet that Wolverine is in more Marvel comics, either as a regular or one that makes numerous guest appearances. Of course Spider-Man is hugely marketalble for Marvel as not only is he one of their most popular characters...he is also a character accessable to all age groups.

Luca S., Sadly...The Punisher is clearly an R rated character that has been in only a few videogames (Capcom's The Punisher 1991 is my favorite one, a NES 3rd person shooter 91, and the PS2 and Xbox The Punisher 04,) and is regulated to an occasional guest appearance in Marvel Cartoons, and has had worse luck at the Box Office, than any character outside of Elektra, Man Thing, and Howard The Duck. Punisher War Zone is a great film...but is definitely not for kids.

Nexus, Are you attending New York Comic Con Feb 6th-8th? I definitely am. If you continue to post on CHUD.COM...you will likely see more of my posts.

I hate both the A-Team and the original Battlestar Galactica. I changed my name to face man so that I could alternate my avatar between several different actors with very large or very bizarre faces. It began when I had a Rocky Dennis avatar.

I do agree with you about The Punisher though... it is sad that it is no longer acceptable for children to have a mass murdering psychopath as a role model. What has the world come to.

Face Man, Now I get your screen name...sorry for assuming you were a fan of one of the greatest tv shows of the 20th Century...The A-Team. Of course only...Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek could rank higher.

I just can't believe that someone would like The A-Team without irony. That alone convinces me that Fleed is not real.

Face Man, I do not need Irony to enjoy...The A-Team. Anyway...I do not even like to iron. The A-Team is the ultimate action series. I need no cheap tricks to enjoy George Peppard Hamming it up as...John "Hannibal" Smith, Dirk Benedict conning everyone he meets as...Templeton "Face Man" Peck, Dwight Schultz acting crazy as "Howling Mad" Murdock to re join his friends whenever they need him to fly them into and out of harms way, Mr T threatening his enemies as well as his friends as B.A. (Bad Attitude) Baracus, or the lovely Melinda Culea portraying Amy Amanda Allen, the prettier, gal pal of the two female reporters that tracked the exploits of...The A-Team. "I love it when a plan comes together." George Peppard's John "Hannibal" Smith.

By the way did I mention I have the four classic seasons of...The A-Team, as well as the soundtrack? I did not care for the final season though.

I also enjoyed the A-Team for many many years without irony - something that millions of other British people did too. These days it is very easy and lazy to say 'oh i only watched knight rider etc. to be ironic when I was 6' but the A-Team touched a nerve throughout the world and made it a better place for a while, it's impact and influence should never be overlooked.

It is a shame that to most americans it is seen as just a cheesy 80s show rather than a high-watermark of their culture.

Indeed it seems to me that to select face man as a username and then bad-mouth the fine work of Messrs Larsen & Benedict is the height of facetiousness. It strikes me there are a number of alternative names that could have been chosen to circumvent such misunderstanding.

Also, Fleed is the most real motherfucker on these boards. Long live Fleed.

Brad Lohan, That SFX guy Frankie was added, he was a 5th wheel type character that added nothing special to the proceedings. Robert Vaughn giving the Team missions, was much less interesting than outfoxing each General, Lt., Colonel that tried to arrest the team each week.
Actually, as someone who did watch the show in its original run, I'm forced to agree with the duke for the second time in two weeks. Adding those two characters was a huge mistake. Like the show or not, it was a winning formula, and monkeying with it was inadvisable. It was a show of large personalities, and dude #5 simply didn't have the personality to compete. And nobody wanted to see the team taking orders.
I don't watch A-Team or Knight Rider at all. Not even to be ironic. I liked the shows when I was six because I was fucking six. Gunfire and a talking car are all it takes to impress a six year old. Wolverine is fine as a supporting character but his overexposure and the need to duplicate his success by creating similair charaters or re-shaping old characters to be more like him ruined mainstream superhero comics.
Agreed completely. The glorification of Wolverine and the Punisher were the ruination of Marvel for me.

And I don't like the A-Team as an adult. I do remember why I enjoyed it at the time, though. As I was just saying in the Star Trek thread, our inner children are retards.

Face Man, I suppose then the difference is, I first saw Knight Rider when I was 14, in 1982 watching Knight Of The Phoenix with one of my friends...while I was not allowed for the epic premiere of...The A-Team because it lauched after the Super Bowl in 83 when I was 15 and couldn't stay up to 11-12 midnight, as I had school the next day...and my family did not have a vcr...til 1984 just in time for me to record the premiere of...Airwolf, which also first aired after the Super Bowl.

To this day My Favorite series are...
1) Star Trek
2) The A-Team
3) Glen A Larson's...Battlestar Galactica
4) Glen A Larson's...Buck Rogers In The 25th Century
5) Knight Rider
6) T.J. Hooker
7) Airwolf
8) Hunter
9) The Master
10) The Fall Guy

My favorite comic characters are...
1) Iron Man
2) Nick Fury
3) The Punisher
4) Wolverine
5) Snake Eyes
6) Storm Shadow
7) Power Man & Iron Fist
8) Captain America
9) Scarlett
10) The Shogun Warriors

I see we're sporting the standard modern shitty animation style. I wish somebody would actually sink some money into decent animation for once. God, I miss Futurama.
At a birthday dinner, two friends and I were talking movies and stuff. Both are geeks, but only one is into "movies" in general rather than some franchise.

The franchise-guy (Trek) was complaining about what he'd seen of the new movie and bemoaned the fact that "creators never listen to fans!"

The movie-guy and me literally simultaneously yelled "THEY SHOULDN'T!" Franchise-guy was absolutely baffled that we thought fans weren't the highest authority on such matters.

I loved Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid, but I mostly get some laughs out of them now. I'm confounded by the fact that relatively normal people love some of this stuff.

Luca S., Would it surprise you that I too enjoy the original TMNT 87-96 enough to have already bought seasons 1-6?

Greg David, Everyone be happy, rejoice...We do not agree at all on...Wolverine And The X-Men. I think that WATXM, will be a terrific series with superb animation, and also...I did not like Futurama.

All I know is that I want to see Wolverine slash away victims in fountains of gore. I don't care if it's a kid's channel, Wolverine should be XTREME and HARDCORE. Kids need to watch The Barney and leave the adult entertainment of comic book cartoons to those who can appreciate the nuanced characters and themes. Wolverine is BADASS and I hope this cartoon is as darkly complex as The Dark Knight... the greatest movie ever made.

Hulk Vs is PG 13...and it arrives on dvd 1/27/09

Duke Fleed... your love of... The A-Team does give me the right to insult you. Its one thing to enjoy it as a mild diversion. Even I watch the occasional episode of Walker Texas Ranger... but you seem to hold these shows in such honor as to be laughable.
