F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin - Page 3

Looking at the front page, plus your review, reminded me I bought and own the game. Aside from the day one playthrough I haven't gone back to this boring game since.

Sonic Ultimate Collection was more entertaining than this...

Golden Axe > FEAR 2
Streets of Rage > FEAR 2
Flicky > FEAR 2

If Steam had some kind of function to give away games you've already activated I wouldn't hesitate passing this on to someone who'd get more enjoyment out of it than I did.

When I do play this again, I'll need to see if I could modify the .ini so the fucking autosave doesn't clue me in to when the next major scripted event is about to occur.

Excuse me while I go play Flower again.

Finished it on hard. Good fun while it lasted. Keeping the end in mind, the final "Climax" achievement made me laugh.

I wouldn't call this a 9/10 buts its a solid 8 for sure. Would like to see suped up A.I, similar art directon & pacing for the next one. Hope it sells well.

You're nuts.

Finished this up the other night, and enjoyed it thoroughly, except for the lackluster ending. Developers should never, ever be able to end a game on an ambiguous note just in case they get the chance to make a sequel.

Still, I had a great time with the pc version. A solid B.

Probably true. The game failed to hook me when it came out. It now sits next to my copy of Crysis and Far Cry 2.

I'm hoping for some kind of monumental life changing event that requires me to stay home for half a year so I can catch up on all the fucking games I've bought and also my wife being somewhere else during that period.

Revisiting the Sega games was fun because they were shorter contained experiences not requiring 12+ hours investment on my part. I can just jump in, jump out, and go do whatever the hell I want.

Modern games like Fear require a good chunk of time to play it and experience it. If the fucking game can't hold my attention after playing through the first 5 levels - fail.

Eh, fair enough.

I'm with mongycore on this one. I'm finding myself completely worn out on the traditional FPS.

There was a free downloadable map pack today that was suddenly yanked. Not sure when it'll be back up but it sounds fucking awesome-

Quote:

[ESRB: M (Mature) BLOOD AND GORE,INTENSE VIOLENCE,PARTIAL NUDITY,SEXUAL THEMES,STRONG LANGUAGE] Experience FEAR 2 multiplayer from a new perspective. Players are only inches tall as they battle inside a pinball machine, a hospital lab room, and a playground sandbox.

Recess: Wage mayhem from the top of a giant sandcastle to the cockpit of a toy bulldozer! Go commando and blend in with plastic army men!

Dude.

That sounds AWESOME.

I hope the pinball machine one has a pinball tearing ass around the arena squishing shit.

Finished this today. I was on normal and it took me twelve hours tops. I wish I'd put it up to hard as it was WAY too easy at times, to the point where I was bored in certain spots. To a certain extent I think this is because the combat just didn't feel as intense when placed out in big open streets as opposed to tight office corridors. But I also know I was playing a bit below my skill level.

As for the rest of the game I thought it was good. A step down from the first one but still good in its own right. It certainly lived up to the horror part, creepy and gory as hell. I see the problems with the ending and I share them but I'm able to forgive it to a certain extent because it was so scary. The amplifier opens and my stream of thought was something like "Oh, she's back. She looks different. What the hell is that? OH FUCK, NO NO NO DON'T TOUCH IT, NOOOOOO!".

The mech parts were great fun too. I would've traded the turret sections for about five more minutes with that thing.

Two minor problems though:

A. I hate QTE's, so the fact that the only two "boss" battles in the game were essentially glorified button mashing pisses me off. Much like the rest of the ending I want to give the second one more credit because it was really creepy and cool but in the end I can't forgive the use of this gameplay mechanic.

B. Too much of the story is told through intel items. I hate hunting for those little things. It was minimalistic enough though that it wasn't a deal breaker.

I'd say an 8 or an 8.5 for me. Solid sequel. I hope they get to make a third one.

I recently got a 26 inch 1080p computer monitor and started playing this again. Still bored, but visually it's alright.

Now...how the fuck do they make you do these QTE's on the pc...? Without feeling like a retard trying to find the ; key or the ~ button. (I know I'm being an ass)

Still, curious about how that's done for mouse and keyboarders.

They just had you click the left or right mouse button over and over again. It's even harder on the wrist and hand then pressing A over and over again.

It's up now for realises. It's good fun, too. Cockroach is a sniper's dream, while Recess and FullTilt! have close-medium range combat. There's lots of funny little touches in the levels (read the medicine bottles. Front and back. If you have a good TV, I imagine even the small font on the back is perfectly legible).

If the goal was to make this free so people would put FEAR 2 back in again, mission accomplished.

And even more DLC- new single player missions, finally! http://chud.com/articles/articles/20...EAR/Page1.html

I absolutely loved FEAR, despite the rather bland environments, but never got around to playing the sequel. Does it still have the ridiculous gore and nailguns? 'cos I probably took way too much pleasure in crucifying motherfuckers in the first game. Also the trailers are awesome, nice to see developers who are obviously so in synch with their community, even if they are T-Baggers.

Nailguns and over the top gore are still in place, yep. And there has definitely been a conscious decision to make it more colorful and visually interesting- there are barely any grey areas in the game.
Alex, I loved the single player but never got into FEAR 2's multiplayer action. Is it any good compared to other console fps's and are there still people playing it?
Before you start FEAR 2, make sure you like hunting down gas valves, because you'll be doing a lot of that.

For me, it's just good enough to keep me playing. I'm not sure the spookhouse stuff is all that scary, either. I find the lax coordination of the player's FEAR squad way more scary. "It'll go faster if we all split up!"

I don't think it's as good as the first game, but I will say that the game is a million times better than the shitty demo I played on the 360.

Okay. I kinda liked the demo, so this is good. I'll get this instead of Far Cry 2.
Besides the (rare) mech suit levels, it's a very average FPS. I don't know that I'd recommend it over Far Cry 2, but neither are must-buys.

And another fantastic trailer- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm7cU1RLlW4

God bless you, Monolith.
It’s just a shame that Monolith are putting so much effort into a game that’s multiplayer was pretty much stillborn. I hop online every now and then to see if ANYONE is playing but it’s a wasteground so far as the PSN is concerned. Maybe it’s more healthy on Xbox Live/PC
post #126 of 127
Is the expansion worth a look? I REALLY enjoyed playing through the main game and more to do would definitely be great. I started the demo, but didn't have a chance to finish it. Has anyone played through the expansion yet? Alex? I'm hoping it get kinda freaky too.
I downloaded it and started it up to make sure it worked right, but haven't really played it yet. It does start you off in a mech, though, taking down helicopters and splattering soldiers into red mist.
