So I'm going to Monster Jam next week...

well I have never been to Monster Jam and never expected to go to any Monster Truck event, but I have a 3 year old who is infatuated with Monster Trucks.

It will be at the RBC Center in Raleigh and is covered (in a dome) so I'm assuming its going to be ear-bleeding loud and possibly impossible to breathe with the dust having no where to go.

so I'm bringing ear plugs for my son and a face mask (should he need it).

I have watched a lot of Monster Jam on the Speed Network thanks to my son, so I know what we will be watching, but I'm curious as if anyone has any other health tips or bits of ridicule to offer.

Shit, that's when I'll be at Monster Peanut Butter. You'd think they'd combine those events at some point.

Fuck those fire-breathing, car crushing trucks, always attempting to be Xtreme than the last. I refuse to go to any Monster Truck event until they push it far enough to see them perform a live abortion of a 14 years on top of a ten-wheel truck jumping 16 cars through a ring of fire.

Bring some for yourself too. I went to one when I was a kid, and it was as loud as any concert I've been to(well, almost).

By all means, take the soft ear plugs. The sound is sharp and hard. Get them before the event. They sell them at the arena for jacked up prices.

If there's a pre-show event, take your kid and a camera. You can get photos of your kid with the trucks and drivers.

Hey, another Carolinian!

I went to Monster Jam at the RBC Center few years ago with a friend and his little brother. All that I knew of monster trucks is Grave Digger, but we had a lot of fun, and I suspect your little guy is going to lose his shit when those trucks start flipping around. I would certainly suggest the ear plugs if you are sitting closer to the floor, but we were about midway up and the noise wasn't that bad, compared to say, a WWE event where the pyro effects are near-deafening no matter where you sit. The music they were playing was honestly louder than the trucks, so I'm pretty sure you'll be okay, but take the plugs as backup. As for dust, again, depends on where you sit. A lot of dirt gets kicked up, but we had no problems with breathing. If he does start having problems, just take him up to the area where the food stands and Hurricanes merch is for a little break. Also, their merch is highly priced at the events, so if the little guy wants a toy truck or t-shirt, you'd probably be better off getting it somewhere else. Hope you have fun!

And like Vivisector, said, definitely go to the pre-show to get your son's pics taken next to the trucks and drivers. We went to a pre-show and the drivers were excellent with us, especially the little kids who were just in awe standing next to those big-ass trucks.

Well where's the fun in that?

Oh, wait. You meant to YOURSELVES. Oh, well in that case, avoiding bodily harm & death's OK.

I just went to the one here in Atlanta with my son. Brought shooting headphones for him, and ear plugs for myself. Had a good time. We sat up in the Mezzanine on the 50 yard line. The thing that surprised me was, the guy you hear on the TV (if you've ever watched it) actually does the announcing in the dome during the races, and you can hear him doing it. They have races, then they do the "freestyle", which is where they drive all over everything, etc. My son loved it. We hung around a while after the thing was over to watch the clean up and avoid the crowd leaving.

Oh, and during one of the intermissions, they had a demolition derby/race where junker cars raced with trailers, and to finish the race, you had to still have your trailer attached. One guy had a port-o-potty, and one guy had a refrigerator, which eventually fell off, and then got CREAMED by another car. It was awesome.

How did it go? You weren't at the one where the promoter walked right out in front of a truck and got killed, were you? Because that would've sucked.
