High School Reunion - Page 2

Anyone abstaining from a reunion because of decades-old grudges or ill feeling should consider letting go. If you legitimately don't care to revisit faces from back then, that's fine, but it sounds like the closure might help! I'm totally not kidding; I heard from more than one classmate how they were hanging onto weird adolescent anger from more than half a lifetime ago, and reconnecting with folks made it all go away.

Affirmative action baby. I got the poor, Black kid slot. Tuition assistance aside, my social life was severely hindered by being the kid who had no money to spend on new clothes, school outings, lunch breaks off campus with the cool kids who had cars, etc. It was a mixed bag. Wouldn't trade it though. My one year in the Florida middle school public school scarred me for life. Let's just say The Wire wasn't too far off from the mark.

It's why I did the wink. Of course I know that for some, private schools are the only way out of the horrendous situation of cripling poverty and shitty public schools. Don't get me wrong on that.

Caught the wink. Just had to express how awful the Florida public school system is. Even Bush's standard of 8th grade reading and math skills would make graduates of these high schools look like mensa candidates.

As someone who went through the LAUSD, I understand completely.
