Belgian Bat-Fan takes Oscar protest a few steps too far

This is a fucked up beyond belief story. It's a damned shame Europe by and large doesn't have the death penalty any more (let this fucker try this shit in Texas or Florida, though. . .).

There's a guy from Holland that i work with, and he says in Holland they tell Belgian jokes the way we tell Polish jokes here in the states (i.e., that they have a reputation for being dumb). After rading that article, I think there may be some grain of truth to this, because I can't get past the part where he tricks his way into the school. IN FUCKING FACE PAINT AND MASCARA? AND A BULLET PROOF VEST? That didn't kind of tip the administrators off that maybe something wasn't right with this guy?

I read this a couple of hours ago, back before details came in, and I read how the guy was painted up, but they hadn't made The Joker connection yet. I did, I've been fucking waiting for it, and I'm only surprised that it didn't happen here first.

Fuck, I used to work at a really busy on-campus daycare, alone for hours. He'd have to be a pretty big and strong guy to kill me, but I'd probably be way too shocked at the situation to react quickly enough to save nearby kids. That would ruin my entire life.

What were the "six supervisors" doing while he was stabbing the babies?

Quote:
Paramedics said that when they arrived it was unclear whether the attacker had left. "It is very difficult to do your job when you think that in two minutes he could be on my back and put a knife in my back," said Filip Mannaert.
It was a single guy with a knife, I could understand bit if the guy had a gun but he had a knife and you're scared to the point of it getting in the way to save some babies? Just hit him with a chair/table/bat.

The thought has crossed my mind since this movie came out... Somewhere, someone is going to idolize Heaths Joker like this.
Yes, I'm sure it was his love of the Joker that made him do this.

I'd wager that most people going about their day aren't really expecting a visit from the local schizoid, baby-stabbing, Dark Knight enthusiast. Same goes for decapitations on buses and in cafeterias; everyone always says "why didn't they do this...?", and "I would do this...", but you don't know, you never know. It's called the fright, fight or flight response, man, and it only looks like multiple choice.

Pfft. The Joker doesn't have ginger hair.

I'm hoping he was a juggalo, a Belgian juggalo.

That's about the only thing that could make this story even worse.

ETA: I'm not really sold on the Joker angle, either. The descriptions of his make-up differ greatly depending on the writeup, in some he sounds more like your run-of-the-mill goth guy (yep, we still have those over here). On the other hand, the character as written spoke to a lot of people, and you can't have one of the most iconic screen villains ever in your b.o.-record breaking movie and not inspire something, I suppose. Again, it was just waiting to happen (or still is, should this connection turn out to be bogus).

What really surprises me, though, is that it took this long for the media to pin something like this on the movie. Seems a pretty obvious move to me, I wonder what held them back all this time.

LOLOLOL. Yeah, he was a pathetic nerd.

The Joker: "Mmmm GLAIVEN why so serious NIIIICE lady!"

Nerd TDK fans: "Whoah, he's an anarchist like us!"

Not what I meant, but so, so true. It's why I like the idea of a Jokerz-Gang in the next movie.

I'm not a coward I've just never been tested
I'd like to think that if I was I would pass.
look at the tested and think:
"There but for the grace go I."
Might be a coward I'm afraid of what I might find out. . .

There's a tendency among the Dutch to mistake being loud for being eloquent, and quantity of words for quality. Besides, Belgian universities are overrun by Dutch students- presumably they're not there to get dumbed down. Of course, I still think the majority of our population is quite dumb, but then again that's what I think of the world's population in general.

He didn't make his entrance through the main gate, he used a backdoor. International media largely got that point wrong it seems.

And to all the would-be heroes in this thread: Just consider the situation for a moment. This must be one of the sickest things I've ever heard of, and I'm a pretty big horror movie buff. It's just a random act of depraved evil. Now imagine this, suddenly just happening in front of your very eyes. One moment ago you were entertaining toddlers. Let's not kid ourselves: your whole being would probably short-circuit into paralysis just by having to cope with the experience.
Of course, there's a lot of talk in the local media for the moment, about security in daycare centres and what measures have to be taken, but I don't know. Evil like that is a force of nature, and it probably can't be contained, it would just find another outlet. Only a few years ago, a young guy in this same country just walked into the streets with a shotgun and blew away a little girl and her nurse, also without any sensible motivation.

Belgian creche stabbings: suspect quoted Heath Ledger

The suspect in the Belgian creche stabbings is said to have quoted Heath Ledger from the Batman film when he was arrested.

Mr De Gelder has been described by former schoolmates and work colleagues as a "film freak" and "movie addict".

Not really apparently:
Quote:
It has emerged that when he was arrested, Mr De Gelder's only words were: "I have a question".

The words echo a scene in Batman: the Dark Knight when the Joker violently gatecrashes a party looking for a the fictional attorney general of Gotham City, Harvey Dent.
.......
His gruesome and bizarre garb prompted investigators to make the Joker comparison and make a link to another cult Goth film, The Crow, which inspired Ledger in his Batman role.
He could have quoted pretty much every movie by that reasoning. What a retarded retconning of this tragedy.

No. Not at all. I deem it a good thing that even horrible events like this don´t let primal instincts overtake.

It's all part of the viral marketing plan for the re-release of the movie on IMAX.

I read this story when I got to the daycare I work at this morning. My heart is sick at this horrible person. I can only speculate what I would do if his happened. I can only carry 2 babies at a time. I would have to knock him out or kill him. "It's the only way to be sure."

I respect your opinion. But mine is that primal instincts are there for a reason. This moster is a case in point. But I don't want to derail the thread.

As do I, Sir. Albeit we will likely not come to a common denominator on this issue I can respect that. Furthermore I don´t want to derail this any further as well.

Update on the story: he wasn't wearing any facepaint. He just looked really pale & all horrible at the time. Wasn't inspired by any movie or music (earlier reports indicated he's a goth freak), and claims he has complete blackout about the whole incident. Naturally, that's what one would claim in court.

Totally not the Joker. We need to place the blame on another scapegoat.

EDIT: To add that I didn't realize that "creche" was also a synonym for a daycare center and had imagined these events taking place at a Christmas Nativity Scene.

Belgium's Le Soir newspaper has even speculated on the significance of the fact that the name Gelder is an anagram for Ledger.
They should have known this would happen. You gotta put all people with names that anagram suspiciously on the terror watch list, you know just to be safe.
