Why wouldn't Palin want to win an easy 2010 election in order to boost her claim of being electible in 2012?

Because she can't. My immediate reaction is that this is a move of desperation. She can't run for national office if her AK numbers suck. And they have to be dropping from all the bad press she's been getting. At this rate, she might not even win re-election.

Is it possible she might run for the Senate first? Quitting seems like a bad way to kick off a Presidential bid.

Romney vs Palin is going to be a bore. I'll bet a dark horse takes the Repub ticket. And if the economy is still bad by the next election you never know.

I suspect she feels persecuted and didn't want to be an even bigger joke in 2012 than she was in 2008. I also wonder if someone in the GOP quietly told her that if she runs in 2012 something else was sure to come out.

I like MSNBC's answer-money. Her family doesn't have alot and she can make a ton with speeches and appearences now. She got addicted to being a celibrity and she can't do that in Alaska while being Gov..

I hope she has a reality show. I hope there is a sex tape. I welcome her into the celebrity arena if it keeps her away from the political one.

Definitely a weird speech. Very rushed, which I think is what gives it that air of anxiety or desperation. Like many of you I hope, for entertainment value, that this is all to preempt something really damaging coming out, and for the sake of the country, that it signifies the end her political career and that at most she goes on to become a TV personality; that I can tolerate, "President Palin" I cannot.

Now, isn't the problem that for her, ideally "this state" and "our country" are both referring to Alaska?

And is William Seward really seen as an Alaskan Jebediah Springfield? Invoking him in 2009 makes it seem like everyone in the state has a portait of Seward on their mantles. I wonder if folks living on islands loaded with bat shit (and Hemingway's brother!) also feel this way.

You guys are probably right that there is another shoe yet to drop, simply because this makes no sense from a political viewpoint.
I could almost give the "She is Doing it to make the big bucks while she is still a hot commodity" theory credence, but that would show more judgement then she has shown in a long time.

So I've read that this is:

1. A prelude to a run for the Presidency in 2012
2. A prelude to a run for Congress in 2010
3. A prelude to stumping through Congressional districts to help Republicans win back seats in 2010
4. The beginning of an effort to launch a third political party
5. Damage control

Only #3 and #5 make any sense to me.

B. Mary Maitlin is full of it.
Meanwhile MSNBC is showing us another wonderful round of five year old prison documentaries.
Sorry, but MSNBC is NEVER going to really compete with CNN and FOX until they stop this shutting down for the weekend and Holidays shit. I am amazed that Keith Olbermann is not screaming to high heaven about this. It makes him look like he is stuck with a cut rate outfit.
