Some of these people are truly miserable humans.

Some messed up people with disjointed values.

The fact the woman was willing to be filmed neglecting her kids and basically having an affair in front of them saddened me more than the actual behavior itself. I hope the doc serves as a wake-up call to the "Forrest Gump" of a husband and he runs far, far away. With the kids.

I have to admit, I had no visuals on Second Life till now. Graphics were better than I'd thought they'd be.

Thanks for the link I was transfixed. Favorite bit was when the biker dude only near the end said, "I've been married a couple of times..." Shocker.

Same here.

Great segment. Like the hookers at Hunt's Point and the crack-addled addicts, this had that "feel just a little bit better about my life" effect on me.

That does make me feel better. Now, if you'll excuse me, my guild and I have to go kill some uppity elder gods!

Thanks for the link that was very interesting.

I've tried "playing" second life very briefly a couple of times, just to see what is the appeal and I just don't get it. The graphics are dull, the worlds uninteresting and the way the people dress is beyond ridiculous. Why anybody would spend any money in there or even have a relationship with another person inside that "world" is baffling.

However, the think that really struck me in that documentary was the amount of complete selfishness and total lack of empathy shown towards the real life families being affected by this. The mother pretty much having an affair in front of her kids and husband. And the other lady dismissing the wife of her (barf) lover and pretty much feeling zero sympathy at all for his real life wife.

The guy in the UK I just couldn't figure out.

'Second Life' and this video should be a wake-up call to those wishing to blame gaming and/or other media for the mental problems of a tiny minority of participants.

'Helter Skelter', people...

......but who am I kidding?

God, this documentary gives all new meaning to the term "pathetic loser".

The best part was that English dude had zero attraction for the mom in real life. The awkwardness was killing me. Was he expecting her to look like her avatar?!?

That'd be my guess.

You would think they would have exchanged pictures, but these people are so bizarre you really can't assume anything.

So she went back to her husband and what's next? She moves on to the next virtual conquest?

What I don't understand (apart from the husband not leaving her and rescuing his family/kids from this horrible situation) is who pays for her stuff? Who paid for the trip to the UK? Who finances all the virtual junk for her? It's clear she doesn't work or do anything productive, so doesn't her husband just cut off the 'net access?

If you remember, hubby made the little speech about how he provides everything for her. Why he doesn't cut her off is another story.

You're lucky if someone actually looks like their myspace picture, much less a perfectly proportioned digital porn star. But you're right, these people are nuts.

Arizona guy really trade up though, huh? He went from fat ugly wife to less fat and ugly wife.

I would not be surprised if the CBC paid for that one.

My thoughts as well.
Though 'Forest' was such a damp blanket, it wouldn't surprise me if HE paid.
