Hmm.

Some interesting acts there, but fuck Indio with a passion.

Has anyone made the trek for this one in the past?

I went in 2004. It was only 110 and going from that heat all day to an air-conditioned hotel room was really great.

My problem at this point is that I've seen most of the acts separately, so, fuck if I care to go deal with that nonsense ever again.

I am surprised that Billy Talent still exists, but it's heartening that their name is so tiny on the bill.

This is quite possibly the worst/most boring line up in the history of the festival. Not terrible, but really not up to snuff in my opinion.

Not even the rumored Pavement and Replacements reunions could have dragged me out to the middle of the desert. The line up is OK (although it's more about quantity than quality) but...no.

One of my friends got really angry at me at me because I said I wasn't very impressed with the line-up. Like genuinely angry. I don't really know why he thinks it's so good.

With the sheer number of bands, how can it not be "good?" That's not the point, is it? The problem, for me at least, is that there aren't any surprises. It's very safe and boring for a modern music line-up.

Yeah, there are probably 20 acts I've seen or would see in another context, and maybe 10 more that I'd be interested in sampling live, but the setting is enough to outweigh the positives. Even if there were a Replacements reunion, I wouldn't be that keen on seeing it in a big outdoor venue.

I'm thinking Radiohead would have to be involved to get me to Coachella, and even that hasn't gotten me there in the past.

Plus there's the issue with multiple stages, conflicting schedules, the crowds, the fact that you might as well sell a kidney for water there, and tons of other stuff. I don't envy the people I know who have gone there, because all of these were amongst their complaints.

I should point out that I'm from England, where once the summer comes around there are dozens and dozens of festivals with this many bands. Which makes trekking it to America even the more strange, since it's a very ordinary line.

Which is exactly what got me there; as well as the Pixies that year.

Once you're there, you find a way to enjoy it. The performers looked uncomfortable, now imagine hanging out with 75,000 people or whatever. That and the steamy shit depositories that are port-a-potties.

Some guy at the Super Bowl party I was at last night seems convinced that the Killers are too weak of a headliner for Saturday and that Springsteen was gonna play.

Paul McCartney, The Cure, and... The Killers. The Fuck. One of these things is not like the others...

In other words, he read the story on Rollingstone.com.

I've done the "3 day camp outside big musical festival" thing, though not at Coachella. It was equally great and miserable. The conditions are deplorable. I'm too old to do that again, and I can't think of a realistic combination of musical acts that would convince me otherwise.

My Bloody Valentine!!

That's about it. Still a shock to see they're existing.
