Why's Registration Disabled?

I was trying to get my good friend to join the boards, but it says that registration has been disabled. Is this because the boards are getting updated or has it been like this for a while?

Have you ever seen Gentleman's Agreement, Patrick?

Eileen said name changes were on hold in the name change thread, because of forum changeover stuff. Maybe connected.
