Yeah, I had to force myself to drop this one cold turkey early this year for fear that I would make myself sick of it. I'm hoping for a new album from them this year.

Lately, I've been loving the Bright Lights EP from Gary Clark, Jr. Excellent, unapologetic blues-rock:

Common's new album "The Dreamer, The Believer" is surprisingly awesome.

Gonna guess no one is going to give two shits, but I can't stop listening to Nero - Welcome Reality.  Seems to transcend and smack down the annoying trends of dubstep.

This album never ceases to make me happy, it's on repeat today at work...

Heh, I just copied that and Seven Easy Pieces back over to my mp3 player earlier this evening.

Dobler, I couldn't agree more about MGMT's second album.  I almost wore it out when it was streaming free on their website, I listened to it so much.  I thought the critics were going to love that shit, but I was wrong.  The reviews were still not bad, but I thought it was much better that Oracular Spectacular and it didn't get the same love.  Anyway, the album has suprisingly tremendous staying power in my rotation.  I love "Song for Dan Treacy" and "Siberian Breaks", but I can listen to them all.

DJ Dylan, tell me about Common's new album.  I love "Be" and "Finding Forever", but "Universal Mind Control" was dogshit.  I wanted to buy this new one, but I am having a hard time getting excited about it.  Why should I buy this one?

Finally, two recommendations:

1) "Loaded" by The Velvet Underground is a new found gem.  It supposedly is called "Loaded", because they were going for an album "Loaded with hits".  Check out "New Age", "Head Held High", and "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" for some goodness.  It's unlike most VU albums, but it's a good listen start to finish.

2) "Muswell Hillbillies" by The Kinks.  Saloon syle classic rock.

Bombino's "Agadez" has been a constant companion since it came out last spring, but I just ran across this great live video:

not an album, but I just stumbled across this over on BoingBoing

I've been on a Neil Young kick. "Tonight's the Night", "On The Beach", and "Time Fades Away". Just Neil at his most emotionally raw.

"I found a whistle" is literally stuck in my head 24-7 at the moment

I found a Whistle is awesome, as well.

I just downloaded "Let England Shake" by P.J. Harvey.  Whoa.  I never thought I could get into her music, even though I am pretty ignorant of her work.  I think I just had a negative mind set of her old music videos on MTV like 15 years ago and knowing I didn't like it.

Anyway, after reading that her album is all over the best of 2011 lists, I decided to get into it.  It's incredible.  I believe everything the critics say about it.

I've got the soundtrack to Fantastic Mr Fox on repeat this morning at work - its making me insanely happy on a Monday morning.

Loving everything Skrillex does. Specifically on a kick with his new Bangarang EP

As a metalhead, I don't normally listen to this kind of music but it's just so damn catchy I actually ordered her CD:

Nice legs too!

Kvelertak's self-titled debut. Norwegian hard rock, just plain 70's-licious.

Decided to take the plunge after hearing so much good word about it, and picked up Opeth's 'Blackwater Park'.

Okay, now I get it.  Will have to check out the rest of their stuff.

Also, as I've mentioned elsewhere, the new Van Halen is pretty great.

Worky,

Good choice. Opeth never disappoints. You have to be the sort who puts time and headphones into it; they aren't really a driving-with-the-top-down sort of band. That's Van Halen's job, I suppose.

I'm desperately besotted with Johanna and Klara Söderberg AKA First Aid Kit and their last two albums, The Big Black & The Blue and The Lions Roar.

Just gorgeous I must say.

What do you know, listening to NPR has it's merits, otherwise I would have never discovered the album Riposte by the band Buke and Gass.

I only wish I could find a video with better sound quality. (And one that doesn't portray the band as hipsters)

The Nudge - Big Nudge Pie.

Wellington based band who were the standout for me at Coro Gold. Amazing live.  The album is if the Electric Mayhem recorded a blues album, produced by George Clinton.

Pretty Lights' three EPs are currently on constant play for me.

Been on a bit of a binge of Afropop-tinged rock (antidote to winter cold, I guess), and the highlights have been:

Givers - In Light

(cheesy ass video, but hey)

Delicate Steve - Wondervisions

Have also been revisiting and still loving a couple older favorites:

Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

Volcano! - Paperwork

Tera Melos - Patagonian Rats

That's awesome. Is the album this energetic?

Just bought the Senna soundtrack.  Antonio Pinto, the composer, does some amazing work.

In case you didn't know, he has three albums toot.  All free from his site.  The guy is from my area.  I had no clue.  I discovered him on the Tron remix album.  His stuff is a little more chill than that track and he samples like mad, but he is pretty decent.  If he really sat down and focused just a bit more, he would be amazing.  But thumbs up on the choice!  He is really good.

I've known about Pretty Lights for a few years now, and I definitely have all his stuff from his website. He played a really big show in Asheville back in the fall but unfortunately I missed the show due to being broke. He's one of my favorite edm musicians right now.

I have fallen in love with The War on Drugs and specifically the album Slave Ambient....

Since purchasing on friday night it has been playing almost constantly, LOVE it!

Currently playing this beauty:

A damned fun two-CD live album with a great spread of tracks from across the band's career. Also got sent Therapy?'s new studio album, which seems cool so far but will need a few more listens.

Donny Hathaway Live

His daughter Lalah does a right nice cover of "Cherish The Day" on the new Black Radio album from Robert Glasper Experiment.

Pandora and SSX have turned me on to some great dub/drum n bass recently.  However, it all stems from a remix by Chase and Status of a Prodigy track a couple of years back.  From there I checked C&S out and that turned me onto dubstep.  It has become the huge thing recently, which bums me out, but I am not gonna turn my back on it.  There is still plenty of good stuff to find in the genre.

bowie-earthling.jpg?w=300&h=300

It's often ridiculous, but this is one hell of a great running album. Just a great blast of jungle, drum n ' bass, techno, electronica and Bowie-ness. I've given "Little Wonder" an unhealthy amount of spins.

Funny, I was just listening to Earthling last night. I remember it sounding lame & out of date when it was released in '97 but I've found that keeps getting better over the years. Time has been ridiculously kind to that album. "Dead Man Walking", "Seven Years In Tibet", & "Telling Lies" are aces.

Good choice on the Bowie.  Probably the last decent release from him and the best since Outside.  I love Outside to death, but nothing beats his early catalog.  The man is/was a friggin' genius back in teh day.

Have you not heard Heathen or Reality?

Of course. I just don't like them as much. They don't push the boundaries as much like my favorite Bowie works.  Reality is the better of the two.  I guess he was always ahead of the curve or at least on it in the past.  With those two, I just feel like he had fallen a bit out of touch.  I still like them, but I consider them some of his lesser works.  However, I will take them any day over the stuff he churned out in the 80's.  I don't mind an 80's track of his here or these for the sheer cheesiness of it, but damn I really don't care for that decade of his career.  Regardless, even the worst Bowie is better than any of his "contemporaries" of the time.  Although, I have always been a firm believer in the fact that he is in a category all to himself and doesn't really have any equals.

Like I said, the man is a genius, moreso in the 60's and early 70's though... :)

I certainly can't answer for Dylan, but personally I find the new one a good deal more engaging than I did the last one..

Really? The first album is certainly a lot less polished, but I really feel the stregth of the songwriting on songs such as Hard Believer or Ghost Town, combined with their incredible voices still make it a really beautiful listen. They're definitely growing as performers and musicians but there's a youthful innocence and exhuberance in that first long player I find charming.

Why did nobody tell me that Agent Orange - Living In Darkness was only $3.90 on iTunes?  It's the inflated version with the 2 versions of Bloodstains on it and not the old version that I wore the cassette out on, but less than $4 to reclaim this gem?  I've been listending to it all day.

Oh wow, Ceremonials from Florence And The Machine is so damn good. I'm kind of kicking myself for not picking up on this earlier.

I mean this is a seriously fucking good album. Damn.
