Killzone 2 - Page 7

I've tried those methods. I agree about the sniper rifle, I can't even aim before I get toasted.

I did try and save the grenade launcher until the end against the RPG troops, but alas they took me out before I could get at them. Maybe I'll try to go down to the ground floor after I take all those other bastards out and work at the rocket dudes from there.

I have been playing other games lately. Maybe I'll try it again since I am fresh.

Two more maps coming for another 6 bucks on June 11th. After the lackluster ones in the last round I'm not very interested, but this is more for old-school Killzoners anyway.

Once again we are taking a nostalgic journey back to the original Killzone by providing you two new levels in a pack Guerrilla Games has called "Flash and Thunder". The two levels are odes to the Beach Head and Southern Hills levels from the first Killzone. Both are fan favorites from the first game, but have been re-envisioned with Killzone 2's engine and overall technology. The levels also offer a unique twist that will truly keep players on their toes, so watch out for an explosive gameplay element that will have you running for cover...or risk a quick death.

In the Beach Head map, the ISA must defend their stronghold after the Helghast land on the sandy Vektan beaches. As torrential rain and gale-force winds batter the landscape, the relatively small size of the level creates a frantic hand-to-hand battleground, with the water filled craters supplying only limited cover. Picking your way across the harsh terrain, you will find many opportunities to sneak up on the enemy and take them down at close range. And if you’re able to get to them in one piece, there are also lots of higher ground sniper spots to explore…

In the Southern Hills map, the battle takes place around a central Helghast base on top of a hill. The compound is surrounded by smaller structures, creating a level that facilitates close-quarter fights within the built-up areas, as well as long-range shoot-outs in-between them. Ideal for 24 to 32 player games, the base camps in this version have been beefed up considerably, so expect to find more hiding places than in the
original Killzone counterpart.

Those maps sound far more interesting. Shame they're not free, because it's exactly what it'd take to get me playing this again.

Holy crap, I just rented this game and the controls are really, really frustrating me. I wish they'd just let me just totally customize the controls because how they have them laid out just frustrates me. This will probably drive me crazy since I'm already wanting to throw my controller at things.

I hope whatever that new high precision patch that is that's supposed to come out will make it feel less like I'm playing the game with the controller in a giant bucket of peanut butter or something. I don't have a lot of hope though.

Still, every minute I play of the rental copy of this game makes me more glad I didn't buy it.

Ok, so I picked this up cheap and I actually really like it. I know it's got a lot of hype behind it, and this thread has been a bit negative... but it works for me.

I'm used to the default controls so far. My aiming isn't very good, but the 'high precision' option makes it mostly workable.

The singleplayer story is awful, but the levels are good with great pacing. The feeling of walking into a massive firefights is well realised.

The multiplayer gets better and better as more is unlocked. I just got the ability to become a medic and to carry two grenades. I do die quickly, but I can usually take out a few with some cooked grenades and drill one or two people with a full clip from the SMG.

I made it about halfway through, realized I no longer have time in life to keep playing games that it's a chore to put in, and gave up. Once the "HOLY FUCK" wonder of the graphics wore off, I found the multiplayer decent but the on-line chat not robust enough to support the way I wanted to play it, and the single player campaign boring as fuck with godawful enemy AI.

Did I mention that the game was gorgeous?

I'm not very far into the single-player campaign, and I ain't exactly overwhelmed just yet. Maybe I'll make this my Sunday afternoon game today, give it a good chance.

<stupid Uncharted zombies are pissin' me off..>

It's not exactly an overwhelming game. Play more Uncharted. Let the anger flow through you!

I didn't find it overwhelming. I liked that it was basically a string of cover-oriented set pieces. Using the basic shooting-cover-grenade mechanics, the single player campaign throws up a nice variety of environments and situations. Big fire fights, cramped room to room situations, the epic push forward across that bridge, etc.

And when things are in danger of getting boring they throw in something like a tank, a turret, AA guns, the lightning gun or a mech to add variety.

The graphics are good, but more in that it sets up a real atmosphere for the locations. When a big fight breaks out, there's smoke and explosions and particles flying everywhere. Pillars crumble, the enemy's hats get shot off, blood splatters your vision.

I don't think it's the best thing ever, but I'm playing it a lot at the moment.

Hello again Killzone 2 thread. I'm WAY late to the party on this one, but here goes. I picked up a copy on the cheap a while back and finally found the time/desire to play through it and I did. I actually managed to finish the game, so I'm happy about that. It wasn't really sucking me in as I played so I'm kind of disappointed by that, but it did get better as it went. the controls are not perfect, but I was more comfortable with them near the end, and once I stopped worrying about trying to be precise. Didn't even bother trying to shoot down the scope/sights after a while, and it works.

There's a lot of cool set pieces to the game, but that feeling of disappointment sort of lingers. It's not a bad game by any means, just not as compelling as I'd have hoped. In fact, while playing the game early on, all it did was make me want to play Halo (any Halo) again or Gears of War 1 or 2 again. But in the game's defense, now that I'm done I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to go back and play it again from the start. i'm curious to see if my confort zone with the controls would impreove the experience with the earlier levels. My guess is that it will. I suppose I'll find out.

Hmm... Also, Rico is a douche. The ATAC fight was the most annoying part for me. I managed to get through the bit with Radec at ther end on the first try... at least, up to the point where you actually have to fight him more or less. at that point he knifed me, but I had luckily reached a checkpoint and got him after that. and Rico is a douche.

Does anybody still play the Multiplayer for this one? I don't think I'm gonna get into it any time soon, just curious. I think I read somewhere that the experience has deteriorated in spite of how solid the core game is. Oh well.

I thought it was a pretty bad game, myself. One cover oriented scene to the next ... felt like a boring as hell slog. Looked really pretty, though. The controls can suck my dick.

Yeah. For a while it felt like work, but I got more into it as it went on by. But it should NEVER feel like work. There was a progression for me. I went from flat out not enjoying it at all to trying to convince myself I was enjoying it and then on to a place where I actually WAS enjoying it. It's an odd progression though, and one that could typically be a kiss of death for most games. I stuck it out though because it's supposedly a AAA-Uber-Good-Tentpole-PS3-Exclusive. Outside of the visuals my first impressions on this one were toxic way back in March when I had borrowed a friend's copy to check out. It won me over in the end, but it was sort of an uphill battle for a while there. What an odd duck of a game.
