I'll be up for some co-op tonight.
I've rigged up a functional ghetto mic, so yeah, I'm there.

It appears that a lot of people have been having trouble with the new DLC today, specifically infinite loading times and no NPCs. It also seems to mess up the whole game, not just the DLC.

Anybody here have any problems? I guess I can try it myself in an hour or two.
Also an infinite XP glitch with the new DLC: if you set a waypoint to Twin Rocks and fast travel, once you get there, you clear the hideout instantly and can just hit 'Replay' every few seconds for a couple hundred instant XP.
I'm trying to get in Free Roam right now...and its not loading. It just sits on the loading screen. WTF WTF WTF
post #1807 of 2231
It's working fine on the 360....if you load up a private match. We've already unlocked all the advanced missions, and they're bastard hard.
So...every time I call my horse...it shows up and then vanishes right away. This DLC has seriously messed this game up bad. AlmightyShmun couldnt see me...evne though I was standing right in front of him. Haha.
I just went into the mine at Gaptooth Breach...and instead of there being the one mine cart you're supposed to take...there are a pile of like 50 mine carts..none of which you can take. and then the game just locked up. WTF Rockstar.
So supposedly im inviisble now.
Dont go in the mine at Gaptooth Breach...the game locks up every time you do.
Tried to get into a few games with some chewers but the game is bugged all to hell. I was invisible to everyone, couldn't call my horse and when we tried some co-op mission we would load up and it would give us an automatic failed mission screen.
Yeah...the DLC really fucked this one up. I've been invisible and had others invisible, I've had the game lock up when you go into the mine, I've had a pile of mine carts show up in the mine...instead of the one you're supposed to grab. I've had gang hideouts with no bad guys in it and an automatic win when doing them. I've had my horse show up and then vanish into thin air, I've had my horse not show up at all when i call it.
WOW...good job Rockstar! Guess it'll be a few days till I try and load back in.
You can do the missions in a Private match...but dont even try to go in public free roam and do it.

AlmightyShmun and I had a great time tonight doing the missions together. They're a lot of fun.
LMAO! like I always say, you get what you don't pay for.
All of the new co-op missions are a blast, although the herding one is a bit too annoying to play too many times. My favorite mission is the one where Tesoro Azul is under siege in the middle of a thunderstorm at night. It is also rather difficult, partly because the enemies are hard to see and rarely come out into the open. That's probably because they are too busy manning sniper rifles, gatling guns, and cannons. Seriously, that mission alone would make this pack worth it.

These missions would have been worth paying for, but they are free! Now if the DLC didn't cause so many weird issues, it would have been perfect. As it is, private matches seem to solve most of the problems, although I did notice a glitch here and there last night.
Finally finished the story after 78 hours and with a 99% completion. What a fucking game. Certainly in my top three (along with Oblivion and Dragon Age) of this console generation. Rockstars greatest achievement to date.

The Tesoro Azul one is the most fun. AlmightyShmun and I found that the most fun way to do it is to charge up the hill to take the cannon emplacements and then rain fire down from above. It...was...AWESOME...though a bit difficult with all the gatling guns up the there.
DLC messed my game up as well. Can never get my horse to come to me.

Beat the single player yesterday. Interesting ending.

Now that I know what is going on, that strategy might be feasible in the normal version of that mission with only two people playing. The more people you have, the more enemies there are, and the advanced version of that mission is damned brutal even when you are being strategic. Charging up the hill would be impossible with all those gatling guns, cannons, and snipers.

I also like the end of the kidnapped girl mission where you have to make a stand at Farmer MacGuffiin's house (AKA Ridgewood Farm). Riding in on the wagon and trying to survive long enough to make it into the house while bullets whiz by is pretty intense, especially on the harder difficulty.

The mission where you are riding down the river to Nosalida is also a blast. Timing the shot on enemy rafts in order to blow the dynamite boxes is always satisfying. I had a magic run on the raft last night where I was able to get the achievement for a 10 kill chain in an advanced mode mission. Somehow I was able to snipe a bunch of guys on the shore, and the last guy in the group ended up being the tenth kill in the chain. In other advanced missions, I was lucky to get a 5 kill streak going before getting killed.

Hell, now that I think about it, the herding mission is the only one I don't particularly like, but even it has some worth to it. The long ride to Armadillo while you are trying to keep the cattle under control while wave after wave of rustlers attack you is fun to a point, but it can be really frustrating if you don't have someone who is good at herding in your group.

I think the one thing about these missions that makes them even better is taking away the ability to respawn. It keeps you more alert, and the times when one member of the team has to rush in to revive a teammate adds a nice layer of tension. Also, jabbing a syringe into your buddy's chest (back, leg, ass, or wherever else the animation makes it appear to go) is perhaps more fun than it should be. I think that if these missions had infinite respawns it would take something away from the experience that would leave them feeling a bit hollow.

I have a feeling that I will be playing these missions for quite a while, mostly to complete the large list of challenges that come with them. I had hoped we would be able to unlock more titles with this DLC, but it doesn't look like that will be the case. Oh well. The missions are still a ton of fun to play.
So is there any word on this being patched again to fix the major issues? 'Cause I want to ride around on my bull and shoot people with a buffalo rifle. I can do neither of these things the way it ran last night.
The Patch is live now, apparently.
I saw that on Rockstar's twitter earlier as well. Hopefully everything works fine when I get on later this evening.
I got this today. Started playing.

HOLY FUCK!

Unfortunately, I can't really catch up on the discussion (mostly for fear of spoilers - though 40 odd pages is a handful, guys.) I hope it's okay if I jump in here.

But what I mainly wanted to say is that the hype for this thing is entirely justified. Still on the fence about if it just equals or actually surpasses GTAIV, but there is no doubt - at just 2 or 3 hours of gameplay (which mostly involved just wandering around) - that they have created an amazing world.

One question... Is the horseshoe game meant to be that fucking retarded? Or is that just me?
If you think horseshoes is retarded wait till you get to arm wrestling.
I think Liar's Dice is retarded just because I suck at gambling. Hated having to do it for one of the costumes.

Don't make me do something I don't like to do to obtain something optional and unnecessary.
I agree. I enjoy poker a lot. Black jack... Not so much
post #1829 of 2231
The blackjack sucks on this game because you don't have enough time to count the other player's cards.

Liar's Dice I found out was pretty easy to beat.
I went up to Tall Trees to try and finish the killing 3 bears challenge. Riding around, looking for bears. I finally came across that camp where the guy attacks you and has another guy tied up and looks like he's intent on probably eating you both. Shot the guy dead, released the tied up guy who gave me a hug and went running into the trees.

He made it about 20 feet before the bear mauled him. I still love this game.
Been chipping away at the single player campaign for a couple of weeks now. I don't think I'm very far, as I'll go through several sessions without starting a story mission.

Anyway, I was doing one of the bounty missions (bring 'em back alive!) when I ran into one of those horse thief guys on the way to the bounty. He knocks me off and takes off on my horse. No problem. Just slip into dead eye and get some shots off. The problem is my horse dies along with the thief. Now, I loved this horse. I got that achievement with her and everything. And now she was gone, and I had to walk the rest of the way to the bounty, which wasn't too far. I kill his buddies and hog-tie him, and steal one of the gang's horses, and bring the guy into town. After I collect my money. I call my new horse (who is like a stranger to me)... and he doesn't do anything. And then, out of the distance my beloved pearl-gold beauty comes running up to me! I was so happy! I fired up the game a few days later when, on the way back from a mission, my resurrected horse just keels over while I'm riding her to town. For a moment, I knew how David felt at the end of A.I. And then I got attacked by a pack of wolves.
Reading that post by DS Randlett is the sort of thing that makes me ever more glad that I made this investment.

I'm already quite attached to the horse that Bonnie let me keep after that lasso mission.
Managed to Gold Medal the advanced Co-Op missions last night with Polygon Wizard and Nate K. The assault on Tesoro Azul mission became something like the Normandy Beach landing, just climbing up a mountainside, using dynamtie to take out sniper dens, the rain lashing down and having to use the muzzle flare of cannon fire to find our marks with sniper rifles. Such an amazing little freebie.

I tried horseshoe game twice, and I just couldn't get the horseshoe over the hump; it always dropped to the ground few feet away from Marston. I don't really think I can ever beat this stupid game. Poker, on the other hand, is awesome; I don't think I can stop playing it.
Bet low, if you're looking for that scrap of cloth. The game's easier if you bet less.

And follow the instructions, all you have to do is do better than your opponent, not get ringers.
So they've patched the multiplayer, right? I've been waiting to get back on until they fixed it.

Are you a poker player in real life? I'm the same way. All things considered, they've designed that particular mini-game very well. Fuck Facebook.

....

Played a few more missions. Did this tremendous one where you storm a ranch with the Marshall and his posse. I was shocked at how genuinely disturbing it was, and affecting. Opening that barn, only to see the horror that lay beyond its doors. The satisfaction as I blew those villains away was total. Few games pull that off.

One quibble... The ambient music of the game gets a bit repetitive and grating. I've actually found it's better with the music turned down. More realistic atmosphere. Am I the only one? Am I missing out on anything by doing that? Now's the time to tell me.

No, I fucking own at horseshoes. I play it every time I start up the game. Hold the trigger to aim, pull back on the right stick and then release at just the right point when you push it forward . . . it's bliss. I love horseshoes in RDR.

I may be wrong, but you'll be missing out on one awesomely beautiful song once you enter Mexico.

Probably one of my all time best gaming moments.

Protip: Don't pause the game or else the song cuts off.

It would appear to have been fixed, yeah. Worked fine for me last night.

Alright awesome...I'll be on tonight to play probably.
I like how, even though the general tone of the game is serious, Rockstar's wonderful humor still comes through. Like that ridiculous cartoon about modern medicine. Man, I was pissing myself. Or the subplot of American Appetites missions. I had no idea where it was going as I did those. When it got to the climactic one (at least, I assume it's the end) and the ultimate point is revealed, I began to laugh. And I kept laughing as I rode back to Armadillo to save my game.

Speaking of which, I find that this game is so lush and wonderful that I enjoy actually riding around. I have very rarely used the campsite shortcut.

....

A tip please: I still can't really understand the concept of the cattle driving. You're supposed to ride behind them, right? But I frequently have them scatter all over the place because of my poor sense of direction. My question is, how exactly are you supposed to keep them in line? That mission about the storm where at one point you have to stop them from running off a cliff? I fucking hated that one. And it's putting me off actually doing any of the extra cattle driving missions. So, any pointers?

Cattle driving sucks, but that stupid storm mission is the ABSOLUTE WORST place to get you started. It's one of the harder things you do while driving cattle and makes no sense to have happen so early on in the game. I found that your best best is to ignore the yellow dot showing you which direction the cattle are ultimately going, but keep an eye on whoever is leading the cattle. just make sure to keep the cattle between yourself and the person leading, even if it looks like you're heading in the wrong direction. Stay slow for the most part, and then watch for the twitchy cows on the edges. There's always 1 or 2 who you can just tell are ready to make a break for it, so be ready to trot over to them real quick if they get too far. For the most part, if there isn't a storm or anything spooking them they stay pretty well behaved.
If you've done the storm mission then you'll only have to herd cattle once more I think and it won't be for a while.
Am I the only person who actually quite enjoyed herding cattle? I found it kinda relaxing.

Are you online this weekend? You need to try out the Herd co-op mission. It's high-larious.
I might try to get on around lunchtime tomorrow my time - if you're on late your time I'll drop you a line. I miss playing with the chewer posse, and now that I've finished the single player I'm all yours.

I thought it was fine. And rather easy too.
I like the cattle driving as well. I just zig-zag behind the herd and keep an eye out for strays.
I thought the game explained it simply enough. Ride on the left of the herd to steer them right. Ride on the right of the herd to steer them left. Ride behind the herd to steer them straight.

That's what I do anyway.
