Red Dead Redemption - Page 8

According to that thing, Paradise City is technically bigger than Azeroth. That's fucking insane.

But, like Trevor mentioned, detail matters, and all you can do in Paradise is drive.

There needs to be more comparisons there. The Capital Wasteland would be an interesting comparison.

Did someone say game world RANKING PARTY

5. Oblivion. Still surprises me with the AI and draw distance.
4. Saints Row 2. Co-op and minigames that are actually fun make Stilwater a looney tunes playground.
3.GTA IV. Hits the sweet spot in terms of size and detail, although I wish the draw distance had a better implementation.
2. Just Cause 2. The biggest, most detailed gameworld I've ever seen.
1. San Andreas. Proof that economy, variety, and characters trump size, even though I still remember it as being huge.
Can't remember the last time I was this excited for a video game.

Pre-ordered at Best Buy and got the War-Horse. Pretty psyched, I like my valiant steed.

Fallout 3 tops all game worlds in my opinion. It's varied, gorgeous, exciting, and scary all at the same time.

I hope Red Dead tops this. If it does, I'll be playing this game for days straight.

There's an SE in the US? I thought it was only UK.

Is Just Cause 2 worth it? Demo really seemed to satisfy me.

Just in case it hasn't been hammered home enough: Daggerfall's overworld was insanely, obnoxiously, retardedly fucking gigantic. It was daunting in a way that no video game should ever come close to approaching again. I walked the Arena world from one end to another over the course of maybe 2-3 days. You can do it in Morrowind or Oblivion in an hour or two, assuming you don't get bogged down in battles. Never did it in Fallout (need to go back and try that) due to tons of roadblocks or dead-ends all over the place, but you could manage walking across it if you were determined. Try to traverse across Daggerfall and it might take a year.

Games should go for detail and immersiv-ity rather than sheer size.

I really enjoyed it. You can pull off some crazy stunts in that game. And if they sacrificed graphics for game size, I sure as hell can't tell.
Couldn't rank if I tried, but:

San Andreas
The Capitol Wastes
Assassin's Creed 2's Renaissance Italy
GTA IV's Liberty City

At some point, those four have stolen my breath away through some aspect of their design.

How could you forget Crazy Taxi?

Hard to say, as I didn't even like the demo all that much. Once you get a hang of slingshotting around the island, traveling becomes a draw in and of itself. Most of the missions are derivative open-world game tropes (chase down that guy on a bike, invade the control room and flip a switch, etc), but a few are creative enough to justify the purchase.
Maybe it's because it was the first sandbox game I played on a 360 so was simply dazzled by the graphical detail as opposed to the PS2 I had been used to, but I seriously can;t tell you how many times I'd just stop while playing Oblivion and look at cobbled pavements, or rivers, or sunsets and sunrises, or riding over a hill to see the Imperial City in the distance and simply marvelling at it.
I cracked and pre-ordered this for the PS3 which guarantees that version will be plagued by game-crashing glitches and random credit card charges.
Official trailer goes up later today I believe.

Nice. Five days is still going to be a hell of a wait.
I don't think I can wait, MAN.
Yeah, it's really great that they just changed the Swedish release date from the 21st to the 28th. Just great.

Well there you go. Those lads know their spaghetti scores, no doubt about it. Color me impressed.
If that was a trailer for a movie coming out this summer, it would be my most anticipated summer movie, by a wide margin. Guess I'll just have to buy the game.

Goddammit, that just made the wait feel even longer.

As you can tell by my avatar, I have a just a little bit of hype for this game.

I haven't seen nearly enough Westerns.

This weekend, I'm watching a metric shit ton of Westerns.

Why am I not playing this game yet?
Hell, expect for just a few films, I have no interest in Westerns at all..but right now? Clark and I are in the same boat.
Some store employee on another forum made it home with a copy of the game and has been posting impressions. It doesn't seem like he's a big fan, but then he isn't a big fan of westerns *or* GTA4, and borrowed the game because of hype and the opportunity. So, so much for a relevant opinion.

That said it sounds like it is very much like GTA4 in the West, regarding the controls, physics and mission structure. Mercifully they've brought along the generous checkpoints from the Liberty City episodes as well.

He's also playing it on a PS3 and while there have been no performance issues, it *did* crash his system once.
Trying to find a way to justify not spending 65 dollars on this, but I feel like I need it...
I would drown a kitten to have this waiting for me tonight at home so that I could play it all weekend.
HOLY SHIT.

Quote:
What kind of man shoots a songbird? The same who checks to see if he can shoot his own horse. I can tell you that it can take a shot in the rump, but not one in the head. That horse can be skinned, its meat another commodity to be traded.

Without a horse I feared I was stranded, caught in an interactive dull patch. Not so. A man galloped by on his own horse. I had Marston shoot him. The horse fled, dead man dangling from the stirrup.

I made Marston walk and learned that in Red Dead Redemption, the circling of birds high in the sky means the same thing it does in real life: Something dead is below. The death I found was a woman in prairie dress, collapsed to the ground, a man sobbing at her side. I stood and watched. The man produced a revolver and shot himself in the head. This scene was dropped into the game at random, I was told, one of many moments Red Dead Redemption will employ to surprise players as they roam its terrain.
There is so much awesome in just those three paragraphs.
It's so beautiful.

I almost feel like a psycho for saying that I'm just going to spend an hour running around and seeing how many animals I can kill.
I know we did the Blazing Saddles jokes before, but I can't help it: first chance I get, I gotta try and punch out a horse.
Oh I'm not out of Blazing Saddles jokes. I'm hoping we can name our posse "The French Mistake."

Or possibly "A Shitload Of Dimes."
If we're doing Blazing Saddles, and if Jake is playing, aren't we obligated to go with "I like rape"?

Don't think I've forgotten about that fight we had last year, A-Pathetic. YOU WILL BE BUFFALOED
post #386 of 2231
Holy shit, how did this game escape my attention thus far? Probably because I have heard nothing but bad things about Red Dead Revolver, so I dismissed this one out of hand. This game sounds awesome, and though I've vowed to not buy any game full price until I catch up on last year's releases (still haven't gotten Arkham Asylum), I may have to drop money on this. I'll wait for chewer opinions though. Hopefully it's more Saint's Row II fun and less GTA IV wannabe realism.
Once I actually bit the bullet and watched a trailer two weeks ago, this pretty much jumped to the top of my radar.

I hope there's a FOUND ALL THE WHITE WOMEN achievement.

There's people playing this on justin.tv. The streams don't last long. And I'm not gonna watch.

You're gonna look mighty funny with that knife sticking out of your ass.
Yeah, I'm trying to stay spoiler free from here on out, so I've pretty much stopped reading previews, impressions and stuff. I know I play a little slower than a lot of you, so hopefully this thread will stay spoiler-light when it comes to the single-player campaign and I can still drop by. And, of course, I'll be keeping an eye out on Live for any Chewer-filled multiplayer.

The last neat thing I read before going into blackout mode was that you can apparently buy an outfit in the game that allows you to cheat at poker by holding an extra card up your sleeve. To pull it out and use it without getting caught, you need to ace a little minigame. Neat.

I'll be in the PS3 posse as well, so here's my psn tag: iamjames_h

Can't wait for it to come out though, it's the first game I've pre-ordered in a long time. Plus I'll be having a long weekend in which to play it.

I have not been posting much today because I spent most of the morning reading about this game. Assuming AMAZON does not betray me, I should have a copy on Tuesday. I'm excited! I think I want either a palimino, or a black horse with a white mark on his head so I can call him Bucephalus

One thing that I've been reading though which kind of upsets me is that the game is set in the 20th century. Why? Why must westerns like GUN and CALL OF JUAREZ all take place when the west is basically tamed already?

Watch THE WILD BUNCH. You'll understand.

Wait, what am I saying?

OK, maybe some day. In the mean time I find the idea of an America where the "frontier" is west of the Hudson river (like in LOTM) so much cooler than a country already connected by rail and telegraph
post #398 of 2231
Cannot wait for this game. Been hyped for about a year now and am trying so hard to avoid all the streams and leaked videos. Just.....3....more....days.

Is Spike playing? If so, wouldn't the posse's name have to be WE DON'T WANT THE IRISH?

Here to be a part of the PS3 Posse - Saveus1011

Can't. Wait.
