Basically everything that comes out of Eastwood's mouth during that couple of minutes is iconic.

(Can you even use the term "iconic" to describe spoken dialogue? Eh, probably not, but fuck it. I couldn't think of a more appropriate word.)
Before I even saw the movie, I knew that "We all have it comin', kid" line.

Same goes for "You better bury Ned right, and don't be cuttin' or otherwise harmin no whores," etc, etc.

So, yeah, I'd say iconic applies.

From the New York Times:

In the more than 1,100 articles I have written for this newspaper since 1996, I have never before called anything a tour de force. Yet there is no more succinct and appropriate way to describe Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar rides again.

That's an outstandingly well-written review. Damn. (checks clock).

Less than 10 hours now. pretty psyched, not gonna lie.

add me on 360 guys (\/\/\/\/ down there), to start up the murdering!

I'm torn, I want to play the story on this game but I also want to do co-op/multiplayer with others.

Isn't the main storyline co-op?
It's sort of ridiculous how much time I've spent the last few days just thinking about how best to maximize my playtime on this baby. Sad thing is that I probably won't really be able to really dive in until Thursday night.

Will be picking it up tomorrow afternoon but probably won't fire it up until the kids are in bed. And even then I'll have to put away my six-gun to watch LOST with the wife. Wednesday night I'll be working late.

Thursday, however. Oh, yes ... Thursday. That could be one of those "Wha ...? It's 3 a.m. already?!" kind of nights.

No. There's the free-roam mode, which includes some of the single-player sidequests, and then true co-op specific missions are coming as free DLC next month. There's a link a page or two back.
I don't think the main storyline is co-op. You can run around the game world, discover random encounters, invade hideouts, and other miscellaneous things with other players, but I don't think that regular missions can be played outside of single player. Also, they've said something about adding downloadable co-op missions recently, so I think if the main story already had co-op, we would have heard about it by now.
Damn. Seems I was a bit too slow on the draw.
I figure I'll want to put 5-6 hours into single player before I even sniff around the multiplayer. I can't start until I get home from work tomorrow, but I'll probably put that 5-6 hours in before I bother with bed.

Looks like I'll be getting my copy tomorrow after all after the Release Date Delivery option disappeared from the Amazon PS3 page. Shipped this morning for delivery on the 18th. Yippie-kiyay.
How much faith do we have in the AMAZON "release date delivery" option? I am basically freaking out right now over the chance I won't get it tomorrow. I have only been hyped for the game since Friday/Saturday, but already the idea of not being able to play it tomorrow is a calamity beyond imagination.

AMAZON would't sell a release date delivery option if they were not sure about their skills at delivering stuff on the date of release, right? Or do they assume they get it right 75% of the time and can refund credit to everyone else and call it even? I don't know what to think anymore

PS Am I right that 'dead eye aim' is just the bullet time target painting mechanic from COJ:BIB in a 3rd person perspective? Because I thought that was awful and unfun. Regular bullet time is better and feels more like you are in control of the character and not an aiming minigame. Or even better the cool mechanic from COJ1 would have translated perfectly for this. Am I right that it is COJ2 aiming? Does anyone have an opinion?

I buy from Amazon A LOT, and they have never been late with their timed releases. I have nothing but good experiences with them.
Amazon sent me an email about an hour ago, and I'm shipped. Any idea how they're handling the preorder bonuses? Should I expect another email for that code?

If you buy one of the timed releases as a gift, and you have it gift-wrapped, it will NOT arrive when it should. It will arrive 1-2 days late. They will, however, refund your shipping and gift wrapping fee when you complain. After having this happen to me on multiple occasions, I now forego gift-wrapping when sending timed releases as gifts.
It'll probably be enclosed inside the case. That's how Gamestop does it.

Either it will be in the case or you'll get a separate email in a day or so max.
That at least helps to ease my fears a bit, thanks Xuldinga.

really, ok. thanks, I never had it wrapped but now I know.
Yeah, I've never had an issue with them being on time for release date delivery. Special DLC will come as an emailed code (redeemed through XBLA or PSN) at some point afterwards. Usually within a week or two.
How do I get a code if I did not pre order? Does ordering in advance of the games release count as a pre order?

IMHO it is not fair to exclude people from codes. If that content exists on my disc and does not need to downloaded seperately, it is my property already IMHO. I used to preorder games at game stop but they perpetually continued to get the games late, and their surly, sketchy service has kept me away since FC2. The last time I remember going there, I paid them entirely in Kennedy half dollars. I felt like that put a definitive period on my game stopping days. But now I am stranded in a gaming world bereft of secret codes and unlockable outfits, which also isn't cool.
Mine's still showing as "preparing to ship." Getting slightly worried.

You know how I ensure that I'm able to play a hotly anticipated game on its release date? I drive to Best Buy and purchase it in person. #oldskool

So, to summarize:

1)Out the cost of the gas to get there
2)If you're in a state with sales tax, it probably is somewhat equivalent with the cost of amazon.com shipping, so that's a wash;
3)If one bills 350.00-500.00 an hour, for example, you're out the value of your time;
4.)You have to mingle with commoners at Best buy;
5.)You lose out on pre-order bonuses that are free.

Gotta pre-order through Amazon.com, unless a better DLC freebie is through someone else. It's the only way to fly.

QFTW!!!

I've never pre-ordered before. I went through Gamestop, do I need to pay for the game in full before release or can I pay the rest tomorrow morning?

1) Best Buy is only 10 minutes from my house.
2) Point to Overlord.
3) Best Buy is only 10 minutes from my house.
4) True dat, but I'll take the kids and they'll enjoy the trip. (My almost-four-year-old will pick out all the Disney Blu-rays she thinks we should buy.)
5) If this Sunday's ad circular is to be believed, everyone who purchases RDR at Best Buy -- not just pre-orderers -- will get the War Horse for free.

(Although, seriously, the hell with that last one! I don't want the best horse in the game given to me just because of where I shop. I want to earn it, damnit! #evenmoreoldskool)
I went with the golden guns because I usually believe that more xp, in the long run, is going to be better than the bonus given by any single item.

Then again, maybe I should have done more research into whether fame/xp is going to function in RDR the way it does in other role-playing-ish games.

You pay for the rest when you pick it up, unless you pre-paid the whole thing, like I did.

Won't sleep much tonight.
Which is why I'm NOT going to get the game at midnight.

The exact reason I didn't pre-order at Best Buy, despite the bonus 500 Reward Zone points. I screwed myself enough getting the most awesome armor in Dead Space the day of release.

Gamestop is exactly five minutes from my house. Bioshock 2, I was two chapters in by 1 am.

I love my new apartment.

Bah! You're all just a bunch of lazy couch potatoes, afraid to experience the world past your own mailbox! Like the ... uh, erm ... adventure and excitement of the local Best Buy?

With my twenty dollar coupon from amazon.com for pre-ordering, I will buy several books that will transport me to strange and exotic planets. Full of lasers and robots and shit.

Hey, who's to say the cute clerk at Best Buy won't take you somewhere strange and exotic? Wait ... or are cute Best Buy clerks a myth? Maybe they're not so cute but do have lasers.
I had to go into one of these disgusting Best Buys to obtain an iPad. It was not preferable at all!

I'm driving my ass to Walmart ,which is 25 miles away, to get this at midnight. I fucking hate living in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah. Sounds pretty miserable all the way around. Hope you find some way to fill the lonely bleakness of your days. Maybe ... some video games?
I briefly considered the midnight release until I remembered how uncomfortable I get around other gamers. I treat my gaming addiction the same way I treat my alcoholism. The less people who know about it, the better. I don't discuss my character flaws with complete strangers.

The real problem is you start to wonder if you're truly similar to the smelly throng hanging around at midnight for the release. And maybe ... deep inside ... you are scared by the realization that they are your people and it's the only place you truly belong.
I'll be adding as many chewers as I can for some 360 posse action. Seeing as quite a few of us are getting this, will we be able to form several 8 person groups into one Mega Posse, able to gun down the Mexican Army at will?
After that NYT review I had to pre-order this sumbitch from Amazon. Didnt mind springing for the one day shipping either. The page said the $20 gift card comes with it, so I look forward to receiving that.

Pretty much everyone here is on Xbox yes? If there are any PS3 folks here let me know.

If you have recently used bar or liquid soap in the bathroom of a place that you own/pay rent for, you've already won.

I am their messiah, I will guide them across the parking lot, into Wal-Mart, and straight to the deodorant aisle.

Gamestop tells me that if I trade in two select Wii titled I can get 40 bucks off. Hrmmmm, how much do I REALLY like Dead Rising (not much) and Super Smash Bros (not enough to keep it)

Anyone else done these trade-ins before? Is it worth it and painless?
