I've already got that 20th anniversary dvd but I'm still half-considering picking this up. What's wrong with us? Why do we love buying the same shit over and over?

Because it's oh so pretty.

My multiple copies of the LOTR books mean that I'd be a hypocrite if I commented negatively on buying the same things over and over again. I just know that personally I do it for the new covers.

I'm sure we've had that in Britain for about two or three years.

More like five years, and you guys have a better one... it's got the third film. Sure it's sold out by now, though.

So it only contains I, II, and I?

I've only seen 1, 2, and 3, in addition to snippets of the terrible one where they're in space. I also recall catching the girl from Sliders in something that looked Hellraisery on TV. I know they've made like ten of these. Are any of them (outside of the first three) worth watching?

I love Hellbound very dearly. There's a skin suit!

The Third film is worth having just for the hilariously brutal Hickox and Bradley commentary.

Hickox: "Oh there's some of Pinhead's Shakespearean dialogue"

Bradley and Hickox burst into hysterics

In regards to watchability aside from Hellraiser and Hellbound the only films worth giving a damn about are 3 (for its inherent camp value) and possibly Hellraiser: Inferno (which plays like a low rent Angel Heart but with cenobites)

Most of the ones after IV aren't really sequels. They're generic horror movies with Pinhead and/or a few Centobite-esque creatures shoehorned in. Even the one that brought Kirsty back seemed to have almost nothing to do with the HELLRAISER mythos.

They also have the laziest names in film history. Deader? Hellseeker? Hellworld? UGH

Why does Anchor Bay hate America?

Yes, the UK version is still available on Amazon for 28 pounds (is there an ASCII character for the pound symbol? I can never seem to find it.), which is under $40. I might consider importing it because, Alex, you're right, it would look great next to my Phantasm sphere (God bless region free players).

Is that 20th anniversary release anything special? I've got the original DVD already.

Nothing much new. Here's the stats- http://www.creature-corner.com/?type=news&id=2846

Heh. Reading that, and this article, and I wonder why Anchor Bay doesn't send me review copies anymore.

They'll probably re-release both of the films in their own individual Lament Configurations right before they re-release this boxset along with a Pinhead mask right before they re-release them in their individual Lament Configuration boxes with actual working puzzle boxes included in the packaging and the cycle will continue throughout eternity.

I'm amazed that Anchor Bay doesn't re-release Dawn and Day of the Dead more often. They actually seemed to stop after the best editions of those movies.

Hellraiser:Inferno? Is that the where the detective turns out to be the killer? Even though I can remember Hellraiser almost scene by scene all the sequels are kind of a jumble in my mind.

Inferno and Hellseeker both essentially end the same way. I think the detective was Inferno.
Yeah Inferno is the one with the Detective, I still can't believe that I've somehow managed to see all of these bastard films. I caught Deader purely by accident, I didn't even realise it was a Hellraiser film until the last half hour.

I can only sleep four hours a day at most. I have to find something to pass the time. I've seen way too many Michael Pare movies and DTV horror sequels as a result.
Oh, Inferno is the one with DTV champion, David Boreanaz lookalike, and perpetual jokermouth Craig Sheffer in the lead role. That's another one I caught 20 minutes of on (I'm sure) the Sci-Fi channel.
I wasn't saying that Pare was in Inferno. He was just in some piece of shit movie I watched last night and his name came up.
Know what I thihnk? I think if you watch the films included in this boxed set in a certain order, some pale gentlemen in black leather show up and cart you off to hell. But I'll never reveal which order. . .
For $60, the suffering better be pretty damned exquisite.

I actually thought the one in space made more narrative sense than II or III. I can't believe I just typed that.
Was there anything else released in a box like this over the past year or so? I feel like I'm losing my mind and could swear I've seen it before.
There was a similarly themed Barton Fink box set like this one. In my dreams.
The Bootleg cut of 4 was right up there in my mind. It's a little tricky to get hold of but there was so so much cut out of that film.

Disagree completely. For good or bad, the DTV sequels tend to be closer to the Hellraiser mythos than Hellraiser III ever gets.

Sheffer was here first. Boreanaz is the "Craig Sheffer" lookalike.
Yes, yes, we all prefer Craig Sheffer to David Boreanaz. Lookalike relationships are transitive.
