Some Suggestions Please

I'm really looking for some "inside hollywood" books. I've recently read Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, Down & Dirty Pictures and Rebels of the Backlot...all of which I enjoyed.

Also just finished Shutter Island (although I now wish I had waited till after the movie) and would like another mystery/detective novel. I was thinking of going with Torso, since I've heard so much about it on this site. Thanks for your suggestions.

There have been other threads about film books but I'm no good with the search. Help?

In terms of Shutter Island have you read the Kenzie/Gennaro books by the same author? A Drink Before The War and Darkness Take My Hand, the first two books, are pretty good. Gone Baby Gone, book four, is too but you have to wade through the third book to get there which is pretty awful.

You could kill two birds with one stone and read James Ellroy's L.A. Quartet (The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential, and White Jazz). While not strictly about Hollywood per se, movie sets and the darker side of celebrity gets lots of play in the background.

The Dawn Patrol by Don Winslow is the best P.I. novel in years. Sean Chercover is great too. Both are written by real P.I.'s, so they feel real.

There's a crime fiction thread.

It's recommended a lot around here, but it should be: Cameron Crowe's Conversations with Wilder is pretty essential movie fan reading. Wilder not only has stories to tell, but, as you might expect from his movies, he's honest and funny in telling them.
