GTA: Chinatown Wars - Page 3

Whew. 100.00% Thankfully you don't have to gold on all missions. You just have to get at least bronze.

You're not done yet!

Quote:
Beginning May 1st, owners of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be given the chance to receive the rare and highly-coveted "Bulletproof Hellenbach" vehicle, given away exclusively to members of Rockstar Games Social Club.

This in-game content will only be available via Social Club for a limited time, and if they haven't already, players are encouraged to head on over to the site to synch up their stats via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and check out more of the latest features that have been rolling out for Chinatown Wars since launch like the newly enhanced Rampage tracker, and an all new line-up of Social Club-exclusive papercraft models ready to be downloaded, printed, and assembled.

The full details on how to obtain the Bulletproof Hellenbach are listed below:

(1) Become a registered Social Club member before 11:59 PM ET on May 7th 2009 (Thursday).

(2) Link your Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Nintendo DS Friend Code to your Social Club account before 11:59 PM ET on May 7th 2009 (Thursday).

(3) Sync your stats anytime after your Friend Code is linked.

The car will then be available at the Auto Merchant in BOABO. It will be the last car on the dealer's list but you can skip to it directly by hitting left on the d-pad. (Note that the Auto Merchant opens for business in one of the early missions, "The Wheelman.")

Awesome. And if there was anyway for me to link my DS online, I would be excited. Unfortunately, I use WPA security like a normal person and my attempts to use WEP or even go to Panera and use their free wi-fi has failed.
Okay, so you got 100% without doing any of the Social Club missions? Dang... I have a ways to go. I'm at 80% now.

Edit: Also, I must have this special car. The Hellenbach is already my favorite ride, plus BULLETPROOF? Awyeah.

If it's any comfort, I had to use some strategy maps at a few points to find all the odd jobs, races, time trials, and security cams.

Sweet bumfightin' Jesus, I just found the HOBOTRON! Awesome.
How many levels does this beyotch last? I tried it three times, and I think I got to level 6 once before I died. I don't really care how many times I have to play it -- I don't see this getting old. Heh!

What I've had to do is just open my network up security free for the time that I want to play, and then switch it back when I'm done. It's a pain in the ass, but it's the only way to play online at my apartment.
Has anybody else had trouble unlocking the bonus missions? I've found the 2 lion statues and synced my stats, and on my Rockstar profile it says they've been unlocked, but nothing has shown up. What gives?

I tried that too. No dice. It always comes up as encrypted.

Bump to remind anyone who hasn't done the Social Club business yet that you have 'til Thursday night. I'm scrambling to find a place to connect, myself. Sounds like a friend will let me use his Nintendo Wifi dongle, which should work.

Anyone got the Bulletproof Hellenbach unlocked yet?

Easy Peasy?
Mother. Fuck. Why is there an expiration on this motherfucker?
I got it! The sweet ride is mine. Haven't had a chance to try the Social Club missions with it yet, but it sure hauls ass.

Finally got to play some multiplayer with a coworker at lunch. FUNNN.

Our favorite mode turned out to be the "Catch the Stash" one where you try to be the first to get to the van full of money and drive it to a goal. They give you Proximity Mines from the get-go, so you can drop timed mines behind you, Spy Hunter-style, if the other guy is on your tail.

The "Defend your Base" game is great, too, but if you're not a little organized, you will die quickly. They attack in pretty fast waves (usually a car careens into the area like that guy at the start of The Stand, and tries to run you over, then four guys jump out and open fire on your and your partner.) Find a good weapon and armor fast. You get grenades from the start in this mode. Very handy if you can time one to blow before they get out of their vehicle.

Racing is what you'd expect. There are two other fighting modes that are interesting, but that weren't our faves.

Way behind, but I just got this (and a DS Lite for $80!) yesterday. I'm not too far in, but I'm still loving it.

Because if it didn't sell on the DS it's sure to sell on the console with a much smaller userbase and attach rate.

What a bizarre decision, I'd heard rumours that Rockstar were planning on porting it into Premium Arcade Content for PSN and XBLA guess that didn't pan out.
I won't wax about what kind of audience DS users are, but I see this as a fairly logical move. PSP might not have the whopping install base of the DS, but considering that most of that 150 million is my 8 year old sister-in-law (who loves, loves, LOVES her garfield game), and considering past successes of GTA on the PSP, why not? Additionally, a 50 million unit install base for the PSP isn't bad, even if a sizeable chunk of that is homebrew stuff.

...what kind of audience ARE they? You can't just say something like that and leave us hanging, man.
I SAID I DIDN'T WANNA, but yes, they are all little girls.
Didn't this sell particularly well then?
If someone was selling aids in a can it would have sold better than this.
I guess I should have figured on that. The two people I know who have it downloaded it to their DS.

I didn't even know you could do that. Piracy on a Gameboy does not compute!
That's why the gameboy is so popular, it's the most piratable console around.

This would sell like gangbusters on XBLA. If they're going to start porting it all over the place, this seems like a natural fit.

It is very hard for me to understand why this game was such a titanic failure. Is it really ... piracy? Really? I always figured that was largely a smokescreen by gaming companies as an excuse for poor performance (the folks who are pirating wouldn't have bought the game anyway), but in this case, maybe it is plausible.

There was a PC game recently that sold 11,000 copies but had over 100,000 online users.

And Hong Kong/Japan are rife with fake GBA/DS games because blank carts are easy to obtain and write to.
Well! My DSi and copy of this game arrived today, and I'm having a pretty wild time with it so far. I don't know how to feel about a PSP remake, if only because I was basically on the fence about which of the two to buy and this game's DS exclusivity was what swayed me. Oh well.

I think you'll be very satisfied with it. I'm sure the PSP remake will look nice, but I don't see how they'll replicate some of the fun-factor features of the DS touchscreen version. Enjoy!

Same. I'm having a ball with this game, even if having it on DS makes me a big vagina-bearing loser.
Just beat it. Such a frustrating experience, and probably the most disappointing game I've played this year. I don't think I'll be looking for any lions anytime soon.

Wake me when they figure out how to get Saints Row to work on the DS.
Weird, I'm really liking it so far (but I'm only 27% of the way in). I'm wondering how much of my enjoyment is just the novelty of having hand-held GTA action for once...I don't have a PSP so I haven't played either of the "Stories" games.
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why I ended up getting so annoyed by this game. I played through GTA IV in its entirety and loved it, but I guess the bits that struck me as tedious in that game just caught up to me in this one and soured the experience. I've also kind of been spoiled by Saints Row 2's penchant for providing instant gratification, whereas I feel like I really have to *work* just to have fun in these last couple of GTA entries.
Just got it. about 30 percent in an i'm LOVING this. though i've always been a first person driver then a third person so its taking some getting used to, but other wise, gangbusters
post #133 of 142
This is actually a better game than GTAIV. It just seems so much better focused.

Not sure if it's worthy of a news item but they just released PSP screens this morning- http://www.rockstargames.com/chinatownwars/

Mostly the same, but a little shinier and improved.
so, is anyone else having problems on the Mission where you use the RPG to take out the helicopter?? I can't for the life of me lock on and hit it.....My R button works on regular guys, but for some reason that helicopter is immune to lock or something
post #136 of 142
Friend Codes: the stupidest idea Nintendo has ever had? That NES robot buddy was really stupid, but I think friend codes may just beat it out. I can't play any Chinatown Wars multiplayer because nobody I know has it? So stupid.

(And Dave, though it's probably way too late, I had no trouble at all locking onto the 'copter.)
I just have to say, if you want to get your 6 year old niece hooked to games, this is the one to pick. My sister just shrugs her shoulders, because it's on the DS she figures no reason to check what she's playing. Then my niece proceeds to light the city on fire while cackling maniacally.
So, this is necro-posting in the worst way, but I JUST picked up this game yesterday. A buddy gave me a $20 gift card for Gamestop as a gift, and I after reading reviews on what I should pick up, I remembered this gem and how you all raved about it. And you were right -- it's fucking great.

So, anyone still playing it? I'd love to give Multiplayer a spin, if anyone's interested.
So much fun. I need to get a new DS after monster-trucking my old one, but I'll be down. In like a month. Haha.
I think it's local multiplayer only? Been awhile, so I don't remember for sure. Local multi is SUPER FUN, though. A buddy and I used to play some over lunch.

This is a good plan, but lacking in patience. Small children destroyed by (edit:supposed to 'my' - cool both ways) DS.

I will once again wreck Liberty City on the 3DS. At which point, we may shoot the shit out of each other in cartoony overhead fashion. As it was meant to be.
As it is with most games, I never finished Chinatown. Gotta get on that.
