Like many have said, the first act is kind of overload(and a bit bloated, especially the city scenes), it gets much better. The whole movie is visual overload, actually, but in a good way.

I've trying to think of some movies I've never finished, and for the life of me I can't think of one. I can pretty much sit through any piece of shit, beginning to end.

I own and have started to watch Irreversible about 10 times, and I have never gotten past the 5 minute mark. After the whole head bashy thing I just lose interest. Which is weird because I have seen several gory pics with no problem.

I took me 4 attempts to complete Joe Dirt. I snoozed through the other 3 times.

I started Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance but just couldn't get into it after 20-30 minutes. I loved Old Boy so I feel the NEED to at least the rest of the trilogy. I head it gets better, maybe it was just my mood at the time

Yeah, with me, if I've paid for it, I'm watching it to the bitter end, even if it's (unfun)garbage. Visiting friends houses when they're watching atrocious comedies or chick flicks, all bets are off though. Same goes for channel surfing.

Some friend an I walked out of one film in the theater, and it was a group decision. Suburbia, I think, right after the horrible "fuck Oliver Stone' rant.

I had set up plans to get some hallucinogens with several friends and a babysitter to take us to see Speed Racer in 3D IMAX while tripping. Too bad plans fell through at the last minute, sounds like it would have been legendary...or a arrest, either way it would have been a hell of a experiance.

So it does have a story I would care about and fleshed out characters?

Maybe I'll try to watch it again sometime, honestly the impression I got was that the movie was nothing but an excuse to have lots of crazy visuals and exciting racing scenes, which I don't find that interesting unless there's some reason for me to care about the characters and what happens to them.

Its a very sweet film actually. But the main reason to watch is what may start off as crazy visuals become quite beautiful and innovative in places (especially some of the editing) and downright psychedelic in others.

Your impression is 100% correct: it's eye candy, nothing more. The story is thin and doesn't develop into anything interesting. Also, you're stuck with that fucking kid and the chimp for much of the runtime. The only redeeming character in the film is Racer X, and it's not worth watching the film just for him.

I know that many people champion this film around here but I'm not one of them. I hated this film with a passion.

I watched the first 45 minutes of The Avengers before giving up. It tried to hard to be quirky.

I have never walked out of a movie theater. The closest I've come is with 10,000 B.C. where I think I only remained because I was with a friend. Turns out, he would have been willing to split as well.

With DVD, if I've reached the point where the movie becomes unbearable I put it on fast forward. My sense of closure demands that I see it to the end. If I see any cool scenes, I will briefly slow down. So far, only one or two movies won me back where I return to watching the rest at regular speed. If I ever have to fast-forward, the film automatically gets a 1 star rating from me.

She(and you as well) my be correct, it's a very "love it or hate it" movie, but I do believe it gets much better after the first act, and there are some great, and unexpected character moments in there that make it a pretty good family film.

Anecdotal: I didn't know what I thought after seeing it in theaters. I've come to like it lots on DVD. But walking out of the theater it was one of those films I seriously felt everyone should see once, even if I KNEW they'd hate it. There's nothing like it, and I applaud that. Also, it's totally faithful to a cartoon that I LOATHE, and I still enjoy it.

Grand Hotel Just could not stand the melodramatics of the Barrymores.

Grown Ups

Can someone tell me what the point of the "movie" is? Me and my wife gladly walked out on this one,

The point of this movie is when Adam Sandler negotiated his contract with Satan, he apparently had a good lawyer by his side.

How did you not realize, more or less, what you were in for?

I walked out of Spaceballs, during it's original theatrical run. My girlfriend at the time worked for a theatre chain, so it was free, and we had barely cracked a smile an hour in.

My wife can sit through any kind of shit, but we drew the line at The Happening and Southland Tales on DVD.

I was expecting a bad movie with a few laughs but not a boring and pointless one. That was its greatest sin. I tried to hang with it but it was literally home movies. Nothing. Fucking. Happened. The same can't be said about Sandler's other movies. At least there was some plot structure and the semblence of a script.....

Southland Tales I totally understand, but The Happening is eminently watchable shit, provided you know its shit before you watch it.

I walked out of Cloverfield and Inception, but not for quality reasons; I simply got ill watching them.

The only time I stopped / never finished a movie-related thing was the commentaries on the box set of The Matrix. I was hopeful that the "commentaries from overpaid philosophers gushing about the film" and "commentaries from critics hating on the film" would be kinda interesting.

I was wrong. So very, very wrong.
