Had fun with a text-to-speech program. The subtitles were a last minute idea.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys. For those playing at home, I managed to cram in references for:

LOST IN SPACE
TERMINATOR
MATRIX
DEMOLITION MAN
ROBOT MONSTER
STAR TREK: 1st CONTACT
etc.

I noticed! Good ones. Though, I would have dug a "Your flesh is a relic, a mere vessel. Hand over your flesh, and a new world awaits you. We demand it."

It was "animated" (technically). All the close-ups were stills taken first and then timed with the dialogue (like stop-motion) to give the appearance he was lighting up with the lines. Only the end piece (with the toy wind-up and walk) is real-time.

Working on a true stop-motion bit (with clay figures) for one of my next shorts though. Should be ultra-challenging.

Well done Dark! Loved the ending. Aah, zoom and placement of camera can sometimes make all the difference.

The "hardest" part was getting rid of the frames where you can see me knock the robot over and my fingers are fully in view. W-T-F indeed. I originally planned on having him walk off frame and then cutting or panning to him on his side, but my aim was off and he came at the camera (the final shot is not the accidental one). Plus it was too hard to move the camera smoothly as I couldn't find my friggin tripod at midnight when I filmed it.

Happy accidents sometimes work out better than you plan. Still wish I wasn't casting shadows in the video footage, but live and learn. I have a couple "sequels" (in spirit) planned.

Super cute. It was a lot of fun and very well-edited.
