If they needed a nanny, wouldn't that mean both parents are working and the income would be greater than 500k? That whole fucking article is ridiculous.

More hilarious than ridiculous though.

They make that much a year and they are still paying a mortgage?

Apparently I should be aspiring to be a Chauffeur. $75,000 to $125,000 a year!

I'm pretty sure the author's not justifying this cost of living so much as illustrating it and trying really hard not to ridicule it. He's probably trying too hard, in fact, since the slightly mocking tone doesn't immediately register.

It could be an onion article, if the mocking was slightly less subtle. It's as though the writer was fighting to break free of an unwanted assignment.

Here's something I'm surprised hasn't registered: most of these folks did a really fucking shitty job. An epically shitty job. And no, it wasn't all the fault of the CEOs, we're looking at top to bottom organization failures. They should be fired or see their salaries reduced dramatically.

What in gods name are you buying? The foreskin of Asian babies? I could buy a year's worth of Mac & Cheese and be the better for it.

Some of those things listed are just stupid. 80 bucks for a personal trainer? Drop 100 and get the total gym. Read something. Ugh. It's too pathetic to be funny, actually.

Some unemployeed people don't have time to raise their kids. Not with all their hair/nail/yoga/etc appointments...

What gets me are the quotes at the end of the article which say these expenses are essential because one has to live the lifestyle. The gym membership is needed so one can look amazing at parties. Private schools and a CPW address are a sign of status. I mean, the horror of having to drive your own car instead of having a chauffeur!

Fuck these people. Fuck'em. $500K is hard to live on? Nice work there NY Times. Real heartbreaker.

Fucking christ, I'll probably never make that much in my life.

Shit, if I were making 500K a year, I'd be skipping to work with a smile on my face everyday.

Well, if I had $500K, I'd take a full page ad in the Times, and say how cool it is to live on $500K.
