Obama's Town Hall in Elkhart, IN

Obama went to Elkhart, where the unemployment rate is over 15%, and opened up the town hall to anyone, with no pre-screening, no cherry picking partisan audiences, and no filtering of questions. It's pretty incredible to see a president do this after 8 years of Bush, and to know his stuff and speak so intelligently and compassionately to people about the jobs bill and his vision for the future. Recommend.

Opening remarks

#1: Where is the stimulus money going

#2: accountability in bailout

#3: Question from a Hannity fan

#4: retooling for a green economy

#5: Bankruptcy protection

#6: Cheap, clean energy

#7: Creating high wage, high quality work

#8: question from a 9 year-old on helping schools

It is indeed refreshing to see someone who is willing to answer our questions off the cuff. Especially considering he works for us.

Hopefully this type of thing will be common and not just reserved for when he is trying to drum up support for some bill he wants to pass.

He also needs to stop the "If we dont do this right now we are all doomed" talk as we had enough of that back in September of last year.

But yeah, this is good stuff.

I agree. There are more compelling ways to sell the package than that.

I hate to rain on your parade, but I fear that he may, in fact, be understating the urgency of stimulative spending. Here's a preview of where our economic model is taking us.

So, Bush and Paulson were right?

No, they were wrong. Did you watch that CNBC interview I posted in the other thread? Watch it.

I'll re-watch it and get back to you after 24. I think in this episode Jack goes on a rampage and kills anyone who doesn't believe in the free market. When asked about the stimulus bill, he echos Obama by saying they're running out of time.

Stay tuned.

Obama continues to impress.

I just hope this "Reagan Play" works.

All kidding aside: the ongoing commentary on Jack's methods this season is, well, torture to sit through. Seems everybody has forgotten it's a tv show.

That's right, folks -- I brought a lolcat into an Obama thread.

Get out your tin-foil hats.

Meanwhile, who won the ratings war?

And for those who, like me, rely on the internets for most TV viewing:

Did anyone else get a Jimmy Carter "1978 Crises in Confidence speech" vibe from the press conference. I got to give Bush credit. His press conferences were always in the afternoon.

Remarkable. He actually conveys information when he speaks.

Too bad his press secretary's such a goon.
