Fool, the new Christpher Moore book

Comes out tomorrow! Fuck you all for not telling me about this, and fuck myself for allowing it to slip me by!

It's the story of King Lear, as told by the Fool. First chapter's here.

It's fantastic, as usual. I think I'm going to be using "shaggacity" whenever I can.

I only read Lamb, but fuck me if it's not one of my favorite books ever. Any other Moore recommendation?

You should definitely pick up A Dirty Job. (I have a review here, but I can barely read my old work.) Besides Lamb, my favorite of his. Close third is Bloodsucking Fiends... hysterical story about a young guy who moves out to the big city and gets involved with a vampire.

All of his work is great, though. There isn't one that hasn't made me laugh out loud like an absolute idiot.

Great, like I don't have a big enough stack of unread books as it is.

So I'm the only guy that hated Fluke, huh? I need to give that one another try. I think it was because I read it directly after I'd finished Lamb for the millionth time, because that's tied with two others for my favorite book of all time.*

As for the guy looking for recommendations, you can't go wrong with Bloodsucking Freaks, Coyote Blue, or Practical Demonkeeping.

Also, I think Fool features a lot of other characters from Shakespeare, too.

*Seth Rogen needs to record this as an audiobook. No discussion.

I didn't like that one either, but love the rest. I still giggle when I think of shaving the yak.

gotta give some love for The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, The Island of the Sequined Love Nun and The Stupidest Angel. Martin, If you start to read any one of these, do it in this order. They feature some of the same characters.

Fool is great, I bought it on Saturday and I am probably half way through it. Thanks, Alex for the heads up on its release. I hadn't heard about it..

Done in two nights. Excellent again. It had me right off with the map referencing "Fucking France" and the Hamlet by way of Suess bit had me out of my chair laughing. As far as recommendations Martin, just read them all. Each one has its moments and characters that will stick with you.

Yeah. I'm basically gonna get them all. I might need some laughing material after being done with The Shock Doctrine.

Gotta say, I read Lamb and instantly went out and bought all of them only to find Lamb is easily his best. I'm not a huge fan of Moore, I guess, and a couple are pretty damn good (A Dirty Job is some sort of smash up of Terry Pratchett, David Lynch, and Six Feet Under. It's one of the more bizarre things I've read), but I'd probably not jump in head first and buy ALL of them at once, if I had it to do over. They're generally fairly similar, and the early ones tend to feel pretty lightweight and unformed. Also "You Suck" sucks.

He's kind of like Tom Robbins with muppets instead of progressive sexuality.

You Suck is easily his worst, but it was enjoyable enough. He's got yet another sequel coming, which really does suck. You Bite or Love Bites or something like that.

Stupidest Angel is probably his least accessable since all the characters are lifted from other books of his. Still, I started on it first and it was interesting enough for me to work my way back through his older stuff.
