Lockjaw & The Pet Avengers

This must be the best WTF announcement from Marvel this year.

"The mission statement is to not stink. Tell a new kind of story in the Marvel Universe using only animals. Make it fun, exciting and maybe even sad."

The Pet Avengers lineup in this four-issue limited series reads as a virtual Who's Who of the amazing animals found 'round the Marvel U: Lockjaw, Redwing, Hairball, Lockheed and Frog Thor.

Don't forget that Aunt May's dog Ms. Lion is going to be in this.

Frog Thor pretty much IS the greatest thing in the entire world.

SARCASM/ Ooohhh - I hope it's grim and gritty, maybe Lockjaw eating his own poo or something. /END_SARCASM

Seriously, this could be a pretty cool kids comic, like DC's Tiny Titans, but the artwork's telling me Marvel's gonna try and tie this in to Dark Reign or something.

It does look sort of serious, doesn't it? But with Frog Thor there, they're probably safe from any real harm.

Hey, hey, hey...let's give Frog Thor some credit and call him by his proper name; Thor, Frog of Thunder!

Did Thor have these previously untold adventures during the brief three issues he was a frog?

I want to know, dammit.

It was part of Walt Simonson's run on the title back in the 80s. Loki turned him into a frog, and he had some adventures frog-sized until he found his hammer, whereupon he became a six-foot frog in the Thor costume. He got better eventually.

And...

If Lockjaw's as fun as he was in Dan Slott's run on the Thing, I'll check it out.

If this was done by Don Slott, I would be onboard. But it seems as though they are actually going to try to take this seriously.

Simonson had a thing for drawing frogs, it was something he really liked doing - hence frog-thor.

Chris Eliopoulos is a spot-on pick for the project. His Lockjaw in Franklin Richards was funny, the shaggy old thing just wanted to have a kip and these heroic arseholes kept waking him up to 'port them somewhere.

Should be fun.
