Nope. It's a re-list of title(s) with the V2 correct framing. It's nothing more than Universal replenshing stock.

You can also buy 2 and 3 on their own now, rather than as a trilogy.

How about some fuckin' Blu-Ray love, Universal?
I'm pretty sure it includes everything from the Back to the Future Ride at Universal Studios. I don't recall that being on the previous release.

The Blu-Ray versions are due later this year. In a 2008 interview, Bob Gale said he was prepping more bonus material for the Blu-Ray releases.

I loved the DVD boxed set. It was an incredible steal for the price and had more bonus material than I could ask for. BTTF is one of the few films I'm willing to double dip for. Especially if they keep the original bonus features (a Zemeckis commentary would be cool). I hate studios that release Blu-Ray editions with fewer features than their DVD predecessors.

EDIT: found the link and article --

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...y_Release/1790

"What you're going to be seeing today is the digital master for the upcoming high-definition Blu-ray version of 'Back to the Future,'" Gale told the crowd. "I don't know when it's coming out yet, but I was involved in the mastering of this tape, so I can tell you that it looks absolutely beautiful!"

Gale also spoke to potential supplemental features on a Blu-ray version of the trilogy, saying only that never-before-seen bonus materials may appear, though he stopped short of offering any specifics.

The BTTF: The Ride stuff made it a must buy for me, and didn't disappoint. I remembered the monitors positioned throughout the line showing weird composited footage with Doc, but seeing it now, it's pretty good. Very Forrest Gumpish.

Yeah, that's not correct. Bang up job there.

There are new special features on the second disc. This one actually has some participation from Christopher Lloyd, who was oddly absent from the retrospective special features of the last one. The new documentary does have more than the look backs/making ofs on the old dvd. There's also the ride footage, and a tv special from around the time BTTF II was coming out with host Leslie Nielsen (most of this was borders on commercial breaks while showing BTTF I).

There was also no framing issues in part I on the original DVD. That was part II and III.

I wager it will be next year, the 25th anniversary.

Ok, prick.

It turned out to be multiple issues.

1) The re-release was to put out mass-fixes of the V2 framing on Parts II and II (which were re-released on 2/10)

2) The 2-disc BTTF got moved up from 2/17 to 2/10. Which is the initial source of your shitfit from earlier. You tried to catch me on something that wasn't there. Ha ha, move on.

3) As mentioned before, it's a last grab before the Blu-Ray release.

4) I'm done being bothered with you on this bullshit.

Back to the Future...The Ride
"Experience the complete Universal Studios theme park attraction including lobby monitor and pre-show footage." Presented in its entirety, including the "Lobby Monitor" and a combination of the "Pre-Show" and The Ride itself, an accurate representation of the signature theme park attraction is being released officially for the very first time. Featuring an on-screen dashboard of the 8-passenger DeLorean as it travels through time, The Ride is complete with accurate time circuit displays and the onboard monitor in which Doc and Biff communicate with the Institute of Future Technology's time travel volunteers. We think you'll love this true continuation of the trilogy being made available for the very first time - I sure do. I personally have been waiting for The Ride to be released on home video ever since I first experienced the attraction in January 1992! Since The Ride is included as a bonus feature itself, unfortunately there are no other bonus features for The Ride in this particular release. Hopefully we'll see behind the scenes and making-of featurettes for this attraction whenever Blu-ray arrives.

Looking Back to the Future
"Explore the legacy of Back to the Future in this 9-part retrospective documentary" Longtime followers of this website and attendees of the 2006 DeLorean Car Show in Chicago know that BTTF.com was involved in the production of an independent documentary entitled Looking Back at the Future. Looking Back to the Future is the long-awaited, newly re-edited and renamed version of that documentary, which Universal has decided to include in the 2-Disc Back to the Future Special Edition DVD. It has been completely recut and edited to incorporate content just from only the first film, including both new material and old. We're hopeful that whenever these films are released on Blu-ray down the line, that a second and third chapter to Looking Back to the Future will be added to incorporate all the wonderful interviews conducted about the sequels.

Back to the Future Night
"Go on the set of Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II in this rare TV special." Another classic being released officially for the very first time is the highly sought-after release of the special preview for Back to the Future Part II which aired November 17, 1989 on NBC prior to a Friday night screening of Back to the Future and was hosted by comedian Leslie Nielsen. It was in this special which Robert Zemeckis (with tongue firmly in cheek) first stated that the hoverboards were real, setting off a frenzy of fans searching in a futile effort for the mystical flying boards and flooding Mattel's headquarters with phone calls & letters.

Michael J. Fox Q&A
This is the very same content as the "Enhanced Conversation with Michael J. Fox" found on Disc 1 (and was included in the 2002 Boxed Set), but here is presented as one continuous sequence and seems to be much more enjoyable.

All three discs have a SRP of $19.98 and arrive in stores starting February 10, 2009.

Here's my first attempt at "editing" things--I had rented a laserdisc player way back when BTTF wasn't on "buyable" VHS yet, but was on Laserdisc. I recorded all three movies on one tape, and actually went as far as stopping the BTTF Pt. 1 recording just before Marty opens the garage, then started it back again as Marty opens the garage door in BTTF Pt. 2. It was pretty seamless, if I do say so myself. The only strangeness being, "Hey, that's not the chick that was Jennifer at the start of the film!" I will resist dipping again and await the BR versions, which I would hope will have all of this included.

Forgot all about that! Now I have to buy it.

I do remember the trailer to the documentary featuring retrospective interviews with tons of people involved (going as detailed as James Tolkien to the original actress cast as Jennifer for the Eric Stolz shoot!?!) and footage I didn't know existed like ratty black-and-white makeup tests with Crispin Glover from mid-'84.

That's where I think the initial confusion was coming from. I was under the impression from the material I had that material on Disc 2 of this BTTF 1 re-release was the Disc 4 from the trilogy packaging. Turns out that Universal swiped material in and out of the release.

2 and 3 are still repackages, but with V2 correct framing.

I also recall hearing that the same filmmakers who made the "Looking Back to the Future" documentary were also working on ones for Ghostbusters, Gremlins and The Goonies, I believe.
Has there ever been any talk of releasing the Eric Stoltz footage? Pictures are easy enough to find, but I'm dying to see how his performance worked (or didn't work, as it turned out).
They keep basically saying in a nice way that while Eric is a working actor, they don't want to do him the injustice (or for a better term, "embarrassment") of releasing the footage. Apparently he was so into the role that he actually had people address him as "Marty" outside of filming, etc.

EDIT: From the Wiki entry:

"Four weeks into filming, Zemeckis decided Stoltz was miscast. Although he and Spielberg realized reshooting the film would add $3 million to the $14 million budget, they decided to recast. Spielberg explained Zemeckis felt Stoltz was too humorless and gave a "terrifically dramatic performance". Gale further explained they felt Stoltz was simply acting out the role, whereas Fox himself had a personality like Marty McFly. He felt Stoltz was uncomfortable riding a skateboard, whereas Fox was not. Stoltz confessed to director Peter Bogdanovich during a phone call, two weeks into the shoot, that he was unsure of Zemeckis and Gale's direction, and concurred that he was wrong for the role."

I think it's safe to assume that casting Stoltz wasn't Zemeckis and Gale's call.

Gale talked about how C. Thomas Howell was their choice based on the power of his screen-test. But Sid Sheinberg basically said, "You have to cast Stoltz!"
