I was born and raised there, and never looked back since my parents moved shortly after I got my 1st apartment in undergrad. I'd be in a shitty mood too if I still lived in that area.

Percy Harvin keeps it real for the UF recruits.

From the article:

Quote:
…then he started keeping it real.

What we’re hearing:

- Harvin discussed his continuous pot use, and how he was able to smoke it for the majority of his time at UF.

- Harvin also confirmed the long time rumor that he made a mistake and choked his wide receivers coach, and how the school gave him a second chance by covering it up so the media didn’t report it.

- He also talked about the benefits that being a Gator brought to the party scene in Gainesville.

Can't say I'm surprised by this. The coach choaking thing is appalling but this sort of stuff probably happens on a lot of teams. It does give me more reason to hate Florida.

Yeah, he got to pick up two ugly girls at once instead of one. Ha!

Well it's not like he shot the president or anything.

USA Today Preseason Top 25 Poll

Duke didn't get its usual 25th place vote. Come on Spurrier! Tennessee did get two votes though.

Hey, that scandal was years ago. Let's keep to this week's scandals, OK?

OSU football player sucker-punched, will miss '09 season. Man, I'm no OSU fan, but that really sucks. From what's in the article, it sounds like they have the guy that did it. I hate people sometimes...well, most of the time.
Yeah, this absolutely sucks. Our linebackers are all no-name guys right now but Moeller was one of the few to see some playing time last year. It won't be a huge hit to production but I hate to see solid guys get screwed like this.

7 days until kick-off. South Carolina at NC State and Oregon at Boise should be pretty good games to get the season rolling. Is anyone else as excited as I am?

I'm getting there. With my job situation, and my son playing his first football game this Saturday, the start of college football hasn't filled my life as it has in the past. Actually, as things have progressed in my life, I've probably become less "live-or-die-with-my-team". I still get aggravated when they're not playing well, and will cuss and spit and stomp, but when the game is over, I'm pretty much done. I can cut it off quickly.
Not expecting much from my alma mater this season (UCLA), since a quarterback is generally regarded as one of the more important pieces of the puzzle, and we ain't got.

And since losing my dad year before last (last time I saw him, in fact, we were watching a terrible UCLA-USC game on TV), I certainly don't have the same fire for the sport that I once did: college football was one of our great shared bonding experiences.

However, I am flying back to see the Bruins play Tennessee next month (with my brother, another UCLA grad who teaches at Clemson), and I'm looking forward to the trip as much as the game itself.

Starting to freak out. Only 5.5 hours until the season kicks off.

I hear that.

ESPN has Oregon at Boise State at 10:15. That should be good'un.

Also, did anyone else get a kick out of seeing Rich Rodriguez tearing up at Tuesday's press conference?

I know Bama fans sure did. RR deciding to decline the Bama coaching offer has turned out pretty good for the Tide, I think.

Heard on the radio that Oregon is going with all white unis, including white helmets, tonight on the blue field. Awesome.

So, is ESPN replaying the NC State/USC game from last year? Is that what's going on?
Central Washington/Minnesota-Duluth is more compelling than this.

Yeah, we had some laughs about that today. We had many more laughs about the final score of Oregon-Boise. 19-8 is amazing.

Down goes Hout! Down goes Hout! Man, what a sucker punch if there ever was a sucker punch. Woody Hayes would have been proud.
Oh come on, Woody never would have hit someone so early in the season.
Watching the highlights on line-I love that 2 point play. I hope they use that in the regular offense.

So does Blount get punished with a suspension or expulsion?
To be fair, that guy looked like he deserved to be punched. And then he was.

Blount's a nut, but watching Hout get decked for his trash talk made me laugh. Blount will (and should) be suspended, but let's not forget Hout's douchiness. EDIT: Ha, James beat me to it.

That SC-NC State game was painful. The NFL preseason games were more compelling.
What I've noticed (after watching it live and reviewing the video) is that when Blount is walking back everything seems fine until one Boise State fan decides to drop a racial epithet. Then when Frost and security are trying to hold Blount back it looks like a Boise State fan reaches across the fence and slaps Blount across the face.

I'm not trying to excuse Blount here but I came away kinda disgusted more with Boise State's fans. I played football and I was involved in more than one "altercation" and I know exactly what can happen when you combine adrenaline, trash talking, a bitter loss and a bunch of 15-18 year old males who think they're Billy Badasses.

I turned it off after SC scored their first touchdown. Went back in the third quarter and it was still 7-0. I had to check the clock to make sure time had actually passed.
The reason Spurrier will never lift South Carolina out of mediocrity in the SEC is because the man refuses to change his offensive philosophy: Everything's seven-step drop, play action off the draw for the most part. His blocking schemes have never adjusted to the way defenses play now, the complex blitz packages and he's been passed by in terms of offensive ingenuity. He's really arrogant about it to.

For God's sake he only scored 7 points against a Mike Archer-coached defense!
Blount was talking trash before the game and backed it up with negative 5 yards rushing and 13 receiving. He should be able to take some in return.

And he got suspended for the year.
Ladies and gentlemen, you may go ahead and put your money down now for Mississippi State making its run to the National Title where we will play Notre Dame (Holtz said so), and then win.

Really, always exciting when you have a new coach. Stadium got a revamp too. Going up in October to catch a game. Been way too long.

So, I'm not allowed to go to Buckeye games anymore. The last three I have attended we have struggled with teams we should have beat straight away. On the other hand I hate our fans almost as much as the rest of the populace.
I don't care that Ohio State won, you don't let Navy have the chance to tie the game with two minutes to go in your own house. Not if you want to beat USC next week.

VT and Bama sure aren't looking like the #5 and 7 teams right now.
Sam Bradford - out for the game with a shoulder injury for OU. X-rays reveal sprained AC joint.
Sad to see...Sam Bradford go down, and then see Oklahoma lose to BYU. I would have rather see...HC Bob Stoops go for a hail mary pass, rather than a...54 yard FG. The early report has Bradford out 3-4 weeks minimum.
Okay, this Bama/VT game has definitely improved, although all the talk the announcers were making about these being great defenses has gone out the window.

Alabama's defense won the game, and they're quarterback hasn't started a game since high school. Al has never been pretty, but they get the job done. That's basically want Saban wants -- a competent quarterback and a tiring defense.

Roll Tide!

They weren't given a gimme game like Auburn and Tennesse.

'Bama held VaTech to around 150 total yards and a pathetic 3 yard per average. Bama's offense (until they finally wore down Tech with the run) was good to mediocre but I'm willing to chalk that up to the interjection of an inexperienced QB. He's going to have to get better in a hurry though.

I have nothing against Tyrod Taylor but that kid cannot throw the ball at all. He may be a gifted runner and athlete but I've just never been impressed with him as a QB. Not that Glennon was much better but Taylor just doesn't have the ability.

Here's a chance for Buckeye bashers to get their shots in,

What is it about the Bucks always looking so good in the pre-season polls, and then we get this kind of game to open up the season.

Is it bad coaching? I think the world of Tressel (I'm an alum), but do we have issues with out poor preparation and play calling. Is all of that coming from coordinators, or what?

I know the current Bucks are the youngest ever fielded by a Tressel-coached OSU team, but come on now....

I dread this weekend. Even with USC weakened, they're going to puree the Bucks if we're not sayin' our prayers, takin' our vitamins, and sacrificin' every goat we can get our hands on.

But then I remember Rich Rodriguez is still the coach Up North, and I still find I can laugh.
I think it was more Ohio State preparing more for USC than for Navy. They probably figured they'd beat Navy without too much prep and focused on the Trojans.

I'm not even going to attempt to gauge Tennessee's performance, being that they played a glorified high school team, but I must say that I'm impressed with the way the coaches acted during and after the game. Kiffin was pissed at Bryce Brown for running out of bounds after a thirty yard play instead of punishing the defender. He was also pissed that UT was only up by 28 at the half, and it's nice to see a shift away from the good ole boy Fulmer system in which seniority was given a greater priority than talent in terms of playing time. Crompton still worries me, but if Tennessee looks impressive against UCLA, they could potentially win about 9 games this year, which is better than the 7 that I predicted before the start of the season. I consider only two games to be unwinnable this season: Florida and Alabama.

A pretty good game so far. FSU has squandered lots of opportunities to try and score to help the defense, especially with that last INT. Defense isn't going to be able to hold them long, especially when UM figures out how easy it is to run on that 1 DL "nickel" that FSU is running.

But, unfortunately I have to get up at 5 AM and have been sick pretty much all weekend, so I'm going to bed. I'll read about the results in the AM.

...and it goes about as I expected. Defense couldn't hold them, and the offense ends the game in GT-like fashion by not scoring from inside the 5. Passing game looks good, but running game was surprisingly ineffective. Lots of re-evaluations on defense, though. Mangum sucks at rover (he allowed the first TD from Miami), and the shitty depth on the DL ruined any chance of stopping the running game and gave zero pass rush. If the secondary can't fix itself, BYU will score early and often. Hopefully the defense can only get better as the season goes on. At least the offense is somewhat clicking.
Actually, in the 4th quarter FSU was gashing Miami on the run .. which baffles me as to why they called a freaking OPTION on the five yard line in the late stages. I could chase down Ponder running laterally.

FSU botched that entire sequence at the end. They had plenty of time and opportunity to score that last TD.
The only thing that could have made last night's game any better would have been that fake indian impaling Bobby Bowden on the sideline with the flaming spear. Both teams played well, but the coaching and clock management for both schools was pretty horrible.

But, as a UM guy, take that rednecks.
Looks like Bama stole two of Florida's No. 1 votes in the new AP poll. Roll Tide.

It was nice to see them dominate a team, any team, after last year. I'm still dreading the Florida game, though.
FSU really screwed themselves when they wasted a good 15 seconds trying to shuffle in personnel on that final drive. That could have been time for an extra play, or at least time to allow them not to have to rush to get each play off.

Unfortunately, that seems to be a common problem--clock mis-managment. I didn't get to watch the 2nd half, but I read stuff on the msg boards, and two biggest points people were talking about were wasting time in the last drive, and a missed tackle by the DB on 3rd and 13 (which I assume led to a first down for UM).

Honestly, I'm not really upset about the game. As someone said on the FSU msg boards (and to steal a line from Denny Green), they are who we thought they were--pretty strong on offense, and a young, inexperienced defense that's gonna make a lot of mistakes before they get better. I just hope for a competitive game every week, and this one sure was that.

Also, here's an article talking about that "prowler" defense that I mentioned. And they pretty much agree--it's a nice thing, and different, but when you're trying to stop the run with it, it's shit.
Looking at the polls, it's too bad that Fl. State was kicked out of the top 25 for such a close loss.

It wasn't so much a missed tackle as it was the DB taking a horrible angle on the ball-carrier.
