DVDActive needs a Blu-ray reviewer...

I think this is a good place to put this. I hope I'm not stepping on toes, and look forward to this thread being eradicated ASAP if I am.

Anyway, as the only currently working R1 reviewer on DVDActive.com I've finally come to admit that I can't keep up with the stuff I have coming in from Disney, Paramount, Lionsgate, and Universal (even minus a day job, it just isn't happening). I'm looking for one guy or gal that can help me out, and since the casting calls the site owners often stick up end in people either offering total crap, or disappearing after 3 or 4 reviews, I'm looking here at CHUD.

Applicants need:
1 Blu-ray player (preferably better than my Profile 1.0)
1 Hi-Def Television, 42" or bigger
1 surround sound system capable of DTS output
The will to review Blu-ray and DVD discs once a week or so, even if you aren't excited about the movies available.

To apply please send me a mock review in the style of a standard DVDActive.com review (DVDActive.com). My email is gabe.powers@dvdactive.com.

I'm going to be this persons contact, and the person that supplies the discs, but the choice is ultimately not mine, it is that of the site's owners.

Know that the site owners and editors like a lot of detail concerning the video, audio and extras on the disc, so don't be afraid to get really anal.

Just so we're clear, I'm going to be a total bitch and take first choice of the releases I get, but if an applicant shows initiative in reviewing some of the crap I get (Space Buddies, for instance) I'll probably be more open to giving up the fun stuff.

Also, they don't pay us for this stuff, but I can personally guarantee all the riches that come with being a famous film critic (not a guarantee). We also get our own Rotten Tomatoes pages.

PM or email me with any questions, and thank you all for your time.

PS: I will personally push for any Twin Cities, MN applicants so I can avoid spending money on shipping, FYI.

When he says don't be afraid to get anal, he's not kidding.

What are you looking for help on? LionsGate stuff?

At this point I'm getting shit from Lionsgate 4 times a week, Universal and Paramount once to twice a week, and Disney once every week or so. I can manage about five reviews a week on a really week. Basically I still haven't caught up on that three week period I was in the hospital, and that was Thanksgiving. It's getting kind of embarassing.

Sounds rough. Best of luck to you.

Fuck it, I have a PS3, a 32 inch Vizio and a pretty bitchin' sound system -- I'll have something to send to you after I get back from Austin this weekend.

Gabe, I may throw my hat in the ring for this one. Let me watch something this weekend and review it on Sunday and e-mail it back to you. Or do you need something sooner?

Missing the sound system. Need to get on that.

Jared, sounds good.

I'm in no hurry on this, Alan. I'm in Hawaii visiting my mom through Tuesday, and it'll end up taking forever for the site admins to give the one a go any way.

Renn, I enjoy your blog. You have until next week to get a system. I hear Circuit City has some deals...

Also, here's a website I used to go to in the early days to get a hang of the lingo, if you want to impress on the video section: http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Article...Artefacts.html
It hasn't been updated for Blu-ray, but a lot of this stuff hasn't changed.

Also feel free to check out the site's reviews. I'm probably the weakest reviewer when it comes to the techy stuff, so check out the UK side of things.

Are you looking for DTS-HD? I have a DTS setup, but not the HD part yet, and I do have every thing else you are looking for as well.

i have a 55" tv with ps3 and only 5.1, but there might be an upgrade in a few months to 7.1 dts hd (my brother was given the good receiver as a birthday gift).

Sadly I can't review films till maybe starting april since I'm out of the country till then.

The admins decided that DTS HD is not a requirement because many systems can't handle it yet anyway (including my own). A lot of the Universal discs come only with a DTS-HD Master Audio track, so applicants should have standard DTS capabilities at least.

I sent in a temp review under the writerlog-at-gmail address and forgot to include my specs. Yikes. I have a 42" Sony (1080p) and a 5.1 surround sound system capable of outputting TrueHD.

So far Dark Shape and a DVDActive reader named Jersey Jedi are the only two replies I've gotten. I've only gotten minimal feedback from the site admins so far, so there's still time if you hate either of these people and want to steal their new payless carrier from them.
