Grand Theft Auto IV:The Lost and Damned - Page 2

God I can't wait to move next week. I've been downloading this for almost 4 hours and only at 52%. Looks like two nights of downloading at this rate.
Yep, it's a good sized download. I'm going to start it tonite before I go to bed. Should be finished when I wake up tomorrow.

I'm finding this vastly more entertaining than vanilla GTA IV, and I was one of the people that loved that game.

Billy Gray is a fantastic character, I could watch him talk all day.

Billy's voice over guy is awesome. Like...almost too awesome. He sure is a fucking asshole, though.

And Johnny isn't really growing on me. Oh, he's fine, but kind of makes me think of a less insane main character from Saint's Row 2.

Totally digging the game. Doing a road race (fucking Road Rash, motherfuckers!) to Wanted : Dead or Alive was pretty damn cool.
Four missions in, and this game is already kicking my ass. I'll have to get back to "Buyer's Market" later.
Chopper vs. Chopper is so much damn fun. I wish I could control that copter a little better, though...
Just finished downloading the game this morning. I will try to get a little play time before work. Can't wait to try the new multiplayer.
So good. So very, very good.

I love this. Deathmatch using the Biker Weapons setting is a thing of beauty. Will be playing this all night after work.
Is it me or do the graphics look worse with the noise filter off? It definitely doesn't look as good as GTAIV.
The soundtrack is so fucking awesome, especially Cavalera's Death Metal program. I keep just parking the bike and listening to the station whenever it comes on. Kreator, Celtic Frost, Cannibal Corpse, Terrorizer... it's glorious. It makes the bike chases that much more intense.

List of new added tracks and programs- http://www.rockstargames.com/thelost...sic/index.html
post #61 of 120
That's a nice list of tracks there, though I prefer the current Fisher era Cannibal Corpse over Barnes.
I'm desperately hoping they do a zombie apocalypse DLC. It wouldn't even really require that many changes to the core engine (you might have to improve the AI, ba-dum-bum), and a huge open world filled with zombies and people trying to survive would be a blast.

A full game would be even better (and seemingly a much surer thing than a sequel to a 'meh' western game), but being selfish, I'd prefer not to wait 2-3 years...

Man, the idea of Chopper vs. Chopper is great. However, actually playing it sucks. That fucking helicopter handles like a drunk bathtub on ice skates in the dark wrapped in butter. Chase cam is cool, though.
I'm convinced I just don't know how to handle it, because I played some guy yesterday who killed me within 30 seconds each time I jumped on the thing.

Witness Protection is damn fun, too.

My guys are almost leveled up to 100%. The missions are getting pretty crazy... and I'm absolutely loving the mid-mission checkpoints. Wish they could have thrown that into the regular game, as well... and given us the choice to replay missions.
I saw a TV spot and this looks even more Sex Drugs and Rock N Roll than GTA4. It might just be my first major DLC content.

The checkpoints make all the difference in the world. I'm still ready to break the controller three or four missions in, but at least it's not so tedious.

I was worried this might burn me out just before GTA: Chinatown Wars, but it's actually making me more psyched for it.
I'm a little fuzzy on getting your brothers experience. Can you call them in for backup on any mission you're on? Or only the main storyline stuff?

I am very much up for some multiplayer tonight.
Thus spake the Sony shill!

thecallahan- you can call up two of your brothers for backup at any time. As they level up they'll gain more health and better weapons. They're beasts when they're all the way up.

I might be able to play tonight, but not till late late night. Midnight or later. I'll look for you guys online!
Now you see I've never been able to get Terry or Clay to come out as Backup and their have been moments where a little firepower would have definitely been appreciated (the airport mission for one). Loving this game so far, I think I'm about a third of the way through it (9 missions done, 4 bike races finished, haven't touched the gang wars yet) and I've got a kick out of each mission and all of the characters. It feels a lot more like GTA 3 than anything else, but that might be because the politician reminds me of Kyle McClachan's character from that game. I'm also in love with the grenade launcher, auto pistol and sawn off.
Just finished this off (not having MP to distract me speeds things up, I guess). Pretty incredible package. Loved the tie-ins with GTA IV. Loved cruising around town with my gang behind me. And the first time I used the automatic shotgun, I thought the game must have glitched or something.

Thoughts on the whole thing spoilered below:

Rockstar really does not want to give us a happy ending, does it? This one was almost more depressing than GTA IV. Although to be fair, I think I was more engaged by the story overall - it wasn't quite as epic in scope, but as a result it was also a lot more coherent. You really feel Johnny's world coming to pieces around him.

Also, who else thought Jim was the snitch the entire way through? It seems almost obvious - he's always there at the right time, he presumably got the call from the cops, and he's constantly pushing Johnny to take control from Billy. Even his death isn't very conclusive. No one ever says he's dead, except Johnny, who assumes it. After that last mission, I was really waiting for the other foot to fall, and for Johnny to find out he'd killed Billy for no good reason. The twist was perfectly set up... and then it never came. Probably for the better, it would almost be too much of a bummer to watch.

Maybe we'll find out in the next installment. By the end of this thing it's pretty clear that the rumors were correct and we're going to be playing Luis Lopez.
Oh, and a couple of questions - when Elizabeta texts you Roman's number, does it actually do anything? I just got a dial tone when I called it.

And do you get anything for completing the congressman's missions? Although that hilarious wiretap was almost reward enough.
So, whats the quality of the missions in this DLC? Are most of them upto or close to "three leaf clover" quality or are they just the usual drive to/follow them/Shoot shoot bang bang missions? Has rockstar improved that kinda stuff or not?

Not being a smartass, I'd really like to know.

Turns out that despite my being up for multiplayer, Live wasn't quite up to it.

Tomorrow?

Both - a couple real setpieces, and quite a few "follow the car and shoot it" missions.

That said, I'd say the variety is much higher overall than GTA IV, which devolved into endless shootouts pretty quick (including Three Leaf Clover - I'll never understand the love for that mission). I actually enjoyed the chase missions quite a lot - largely because the choppers handle so well, you can actually dodge through obstacles and don't have to spend all your time smashing into stuff.
The chases are also vastly improved by the motherfuckin' Sawn Off shotgun which can waste pretty much any car in two shots. Nothing like driving beside a police car, at full speed, putting two shots into it and watching the cops leap out whilst aflame.

The missions so far are definitely different to GTA4, they're shorter and punchier and generally hinged on a cool new concept or idea. So far each mission has had at least one individual element to it to change the mix and the new weapons make firefights a shitton more fun.
I'm just a fan of the forgivingness in riding the choppers since it seems if you just bumped into an object in GTA IV you went flying but not in this. I haven't gotten /that/ far into it yet but I've only gotten into a car once, just so I could save it. How about everyone else, staying on your chopper for the most part?
I've logged five hours of gametime so far and I've been in a car exactly once and I quickly abandoned it for one of Clay's Hellfurys. Love, love, love the Bikes in this game and I really love the new music, that Deep Purple song is so fucking good for tearing around the city too (although I still find LCHC too intimidating to listen to for any length of time)

I'm only 5 or so missions into the game, and the only time I've not ridden a motorcycle was when a mission required me to drive a truck. So that's a testament to the more forgiving handling and stability of the bikes - because in GTA IV I loathed the missions that required me to ride a motorcycle.

Only one time did I have a motorcycle crash which resulted in me getting thrown from the bike, so that by the time I retrieved it, I failed the mission because the bad guys got away. That was a flashback to what I encountered too often in the main GTA IV. But in this situation with TLAD, may have been my fault, as I ran up right behind an Angels of Death bike with two riders, and blasted them with the sawn off shotgun. The ensuing debris of bike and bodies launched me in the air and that is why I crashed. lol

I'm loving this expansion, great characters so far, especially whoever is voice-acting Billy Grey. On the flipside, however, the voice acting for Johnny isn't as good. Additions to the radio station are awesome.

Anyone have idea on the storage capacity of the parking spaces in front of the clubhouse? Is there a limit to how many cars/bikes I can safely store? At the start, there were 3 bikes parked there. Later on I saw that one of those 3 had disappeared. I was initially worried that I might lose my one of a kind bike - but then all of a sudden I had 3 of them in front of the clubhouse.
You don't have to worry about losing it, it'll always pop back up on the side of the clubhouse. Even if you destroy it.
Shit. I still haven't even finished GTA IV.
Am I the only one sucking hard at this? Buyer's Market took me like ten tries until I finally bought body armor. And even then it was a royal pain in the ass getting away. I haven't called anyone for backup yet either, though.
Yeah, I gave Buyer's Market a few tries last night, and couldn't even get away with armor. Back-up's not a bad idea, though.
The key to Buyer's Market is to clear out the cops outside from the upstairs window. And use pipebombs liberally.
Is buyers market an early mission? The one with the drug deal?
Yeah, the first one you do with Niko.

You can run out the back door in buyer's market. You don't have to go out the front...

Beat that one on my second try. Grenade launcher at the very beginning does wonders!

Should I get this even though I haven't finished GTA4 yet?
Oh my god the auto-shotty is the goddamn Rape Train

I'm considering my $20 well-spent right now.
Man the Co-Op in this is awesome, it's like Team Mafiya Work but without the whining 12 years on the other team.

Ok really, screw Shifting Weight. That shit is hard! When I get the pipe bombs I get fucked up every time. I can only toss it to the right and the cops just pulverize me!
I enjoyed the DLC, but I couldn't help but be a little disappointed when it was over. It just felt incredibly short, maybe 8-10 hours, but admittedly I didn't do many gang wars or any of the bike lifting. I hated the racers. Road Rash did not have choppers for a reason. I didn't really have any issues with difficulty. Call Terry, get your guns, then get him and Clay for backup, and pretty much every mission was completed on the first couple tries. The toughest for me was where you had to drop the pipe bombs off next to the Angels of Death vans. By far the best mission was after the mob sends hitmen after you, and you get them to follow you into the lot where your boys are waiting on the roof top.

I think the character development really lacked for a Rockstar game though. Billy's turn wasn't handled well at all, the calls from the feds really didn't lead into anything interesting, and Ashley was a complete waste except to get you into shit. I'm not sure I liked paying $20 for it, but it was definitely better than Operation Anchorage.
