The only thing I've bought during this sale was the King's Bounty collection (Legend + Armored Princess) for $9.99. Fills that Heroes & Might & Magic hole in my gaming soul that I've had for a couple of years now.

Steam sales. Argh. If anyone has played it, I wonder if you could answer a couple of questions about X3 for me.

Is the X3 Gold pack worth getting? Does it demand a flight stick to play if effectively?

So far I'm on the hook for the following:
- Introversion Pack (Uplink is addictive as hell!)
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (it was $4.50. What the hell)
- X-Com pack
- Oddworld pack
- Tales of Monkey Island complete pack

I'll probably get Thief: DS today and I'm eyeing X3 as mentioned above.
X3 is best with a joystick, but it's also dense and hard to get a good handle on, for me, anyways. And I LOVE space combat.

Red Faction Guerilla seems absolutely worth it, so far. The demo didn't do it justice. The story may be silly, standard sci-fi boilerplate, but I'm intrigued already. I'll probably utilize a walkthrough and try to get the most bang for those paltry five bucks.

I'm okay with competitive building destruction, too. I will look for you on the Steams once I install it, Singer.
Like I said above, I thought RF:G used Games for Windows Live (GFWL from now on) for all its multiplayer stuff. How does that work with Steam installation? Can you still use Steam to start games with other Steam 'friends' or whatever?

Oh, uhh... I dunno. I do know that I have GTAIV on Steam, and that uses GFW, too. I haven't tried to play that multiplayer yet. I'm sure it'll be painfully complicated, whatever the case.

SOMEONE PLZ BE MY GFW FRIEND.

I'm Jacob Singer 45 on GFW (and Xbox Live, I guess). I've barely touched the single player in RF:G, but I'm up for trying anything.
My experience with G4WL in Dawn of War 2 has not been a positive one. At some point, G4WL (aka XBL for computarz! LOL!) takes over the multiplayer stuff that Steam usually handles quite well and completely fouls it up. Inviting to a game is clunky and fraught with issues. Upside is that you can use your existing XBL friends list and you get achievements.

For example, when you go to send an invite to a game in G4WL, it presents you with a list that is made up of everyone you have gamed with recently along with your XBL friends list with no easily discernible way to tell who's online or not. Plus you have to scroll through the list to find the name of the person you wish to invite, and when it's dumping together everyone that you have played with along with your friends, it's a tad messy.

That being said, it's worth it for RF:G multiplayer. That game is a hoot. My Steam/XBL deetz are in the sig. Drop me an invite if a CHUD game gets going.

I'm an idiot. I went to buy Thief last night for $2.99 along with Tropico 3, but I was distracted while I was placing my order (wife was talking to me and I was rushing). I ended up clicking the wrong thing on the Thief page and buying the Square Enix Eidos everything pack. I immediately emailed Steam to see if they could do anything, but of course I was denied. So I spent $75 instead of $3 because I'm dumb.

is there any way you can give them as a gift or something? not clear if thats possible once you purchase them, but maybe you could.
Also, guess you'll have a lot to play till world's end, right?
(i had an episode like this once too, so i understand how you feel)

Thanks, Rene. I found a couple of Gamecrazys in my area and managed to pick up some used copies of Resident Evil 5 (for 10 bucks), Fallout 3 (for 12.50), King of Fighters (15 bucks), and Naruto (15 bucks) for the PS3.

Was gonna get X-Men: Wolverine, but the disc had too many smudges and fingerprints on it.
Any leftover mom and pop videostores sometimes have a high-quality disc shaver, mcnooj. Family Video, if there's any in your area, have one in every store and they'll clean your disc for a buck or two. I've bought tons of scratchy discs on the cheap and got them in pristine condition this way.
Aw, monkey trumpets. Though, there really aren't any mom & pop video stores in my area... other than Scarecrow Video, I suppose. But I've never seen them advertise the services of a disc shaver.

Now you're gonna tell me that Wolverine was a solid game that I should've bought? I remember hearing good things about it.

Guess that answers your question.

Damn. Maybe I'll try stopping by again next week.

Would a regular disc cleaning kit achieve similar results?

If youre talking PS3, blurays are sturdy as hell...finger stains and smudges just go away with a cloth wipe.

Edit: Be thankful i didn show what happens after that chopper shot...you'd be on your way right now if i did.

$10 Borderlands today will be mine, finally. I think some of my friends still play it occasionally, so hopefully I can get some multiplayer in.

The three DLCs are $3.40 each. Anyone have a favorite of those?

Xombie Island and General Knoxx are the best; Mad Mocxci is weak, and to be avoid if youre going single player.

Blu-ray discs have an extra coating on them to make them extremely scratch resistant due to the fact that the reflective layer is closer to the surface.

This means 2 things:

1) If it does get scratched it's much more likely that information was actually destroyed by the scratch hitting the shiny part
2) Standard CD/DVD disc repair kits shouldn't really be used with them

I'd just take a standard cleaning cloth in with you (like used on lenses in glasses) and see if the smudges/fingerprints wipe off. If they do, buy the game if they don't ... I'm sure someone has Wolverine for like $5 on Amazon.com Marketplace or Half.com.

I don't see any way to gift the individual games. There's a handful I've wanted to play, but all in all this was just me paying for being a bonehead. There has to be 10 games there I'll never touch.
All in all I was pretty frugal this time. I only bought Red Faction: Guerilla, Bordelands + DLC (except for Moxi), the Introversion pack and Shatter. I'm quite proud of my self discipline.
Most expensive thing I bought was Sam & Max Season Three for $17. Can't beat that deal with a stick. Also picked up Shatter, Zeno Clash (eh), and the Deus Ex two-fer. I think that's less than $30 for everything.
While debating whether to buy the points for Deathspank, I happened across this auction. Seems legit, the guy has 100% feedback, he's selling the actual cards and not some dummy Silver account that you then have to tie to your Xbox. $30 for 4000 points is pretty hard to beat.

A new Valve game, Alien Swarm, is free via Steam. I'm thinking CHUD games?

Minecraft is 50% off, roughly 6 bucks US. A great deal for those OCD builders out there.

Spent my whole night playing this last night with some friends. Wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend it to anyone with a Steam account. Remarkably polished and fun for a free game, though I suppose that's to be expected from Valve.

Voice chat in this game exists solely to throw around Aliens quotes.
It took me a while to get the download to start, but I have it installed now, so I'll be up for playing this week. Saw you listed as playing, Zero-- you were the only one on my FList in the game. I'm sure there will be plenty more in a day or two.
I was playing it last night, I'm in the CHUD group but I don't think I have any CHUD folks friended directly. It is fun, I'm not sure how much longevity it has but it's a good time. I was having some fairly massive issues connecting to public games last night though. It would show me a lot of open games, but I would often hang up and get booted back to the main menu if I tried to connect. Once connected I never had an issue and never got booted from a game unless the host left.

Just Cause 2 half-price on Steam this weekend.

You're really hesitant to spend $1.70?
Haha. No.
I actually have the GOTY on disc, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth ditching my hard copy and buying this GOTY: Deluxe on Steam.
I haven't put much time into it yet.

Jacob (or anyone, really), are there any space combat games up on Steam that you would recommend? A new PC/PS3 flight stick wound up in my hands, but damn if I haven't played a flight game in the last 10 years. I was tempted to hunt down a copy of X-Wing Alliance, but I've heard that thing is buggy with newer video cards.
It's not a flight sim game but it is space combat (more along the lines of Homeworld) but I always recommend Nexus: The Jupiter incident to anyone with a Steam account. It's an overlooked and really under appreciated game.

In terms of classic space flight combat sims, a quick search of the Simulation section would lead me to believe your options on Steam seem to be limited to X3, Tachyon, and Star Wars Starfighter games.
Thanks, Count. Yeah, there really isn't much out on Steam in the way of space flight sim. I've never used GOG before, but the videos I've found for Freespace 2 looks like it's right up my alley. Six bucks, too!

Darkstar One is on Steam, and pretty cheap. Runs great, looks great, and has a nice Wing Commander-ish vibe. I've actually played through the fucker 3 times now, what with the dearth of good old-fashioned space combat.

Tell you what, I have some extra gift stuff available on Steam, I'd be happy to gift the game to ya. I'm Jacob Singer on there, send me a friend request or join the CHUD group and I'll send it to you tonight.

EDIT: Feel free to PM if you like.

ALSO: EA Online has ALL of their downloadable games for 40% off today (maybe through the weekend). Some great deals on there, if you haven't tried Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, and others.
I also remember liking Starlancer a lot when I played it about 10 years ago. Whether it would even run on modern systems is anyone's guess nowadays though.
I bought Mass Effect 2 since it was less than $18 on PC through that EA sale. I then proceeded to lose 2 straight days to Mass Effect 2.

Kotor is $2.50 on Steam for day 2.
Every time I see TFU on sale on Steam I'm totally tempted right up until the moment I go to the Store page and see that it has a 30 frickin gig install footprint. I mean I can spare the space, but who the hell wants to wait around for that kind of download? Plus it doesn't speak to highly of the care and attention paid to porting it over.

Now KoTOR for the price of a bag of chips and a pop? That deserves consideration

Anybody who hasn't played it who doesn't buy it for that amount is foolish.
