Be aware, if you're one of those people who is holding on to XP (looks around nervously) then you can't play it. I own it from a bundle I accidentally bought during the last big Steam sale and can't play it.

D'oh... Well that was $7.50 + install time wasted...

Today was also the start of Gamefly's Christmas sale on used games.

http://www.gamefly.com/sale

I wasn't able to check it out fully when the sale started at 1pm, and it looks like some things I'd have been interested have already sold out (Transformers:WfC and Yakuza 3 for PS3), but there are still some decent titles left. They tend to ship games complete and in very good condition (though 360 games are reportedly the most likely ones to show up scratched) at a pretty good price.
Oh Steam, you're really not helping. Both Mass Effects for $9.99 each, Blood Bowl for $20 and Alpha Protocol for $7.50.
Darksiders for 7.50€ fuckin' bought. Fucking Steam. And I was doing well so far.
It says Darksiders is controller enabled, but I don't have a controller for my PC. Anyone know how it plays with a keyboard/mouse?
Was hoping the new Back to the Future game would be one of today's special deals...Steam sale pushed me over into Comcast's naughty list having just breached the excessive use limit for the month. Didn't know we had done that...

DC Online Beta, WoW download, Lotro, hulu/netflix/vudu, plus some of the steam gifts I've received so far.

Will probably read the faq and see if there are any consequences for this (and any additional downloading going on).

Guess I'm lucky I already have Darksiders and Mass Effect, but I really want to pull the trigger for Bloodbowl.
Is it weird that the 'opening the vault scene' from Die Hard replays in my head every time we get a new batch of Steam sales?

Because that's what happens, 'Ode To Joy' and all.
Next round is up on Steam:

Fallout: New Vegas for $29.99
Borderlands and all DLC 50% off
Torchlight for $4.99
Saints Row 2 for $7.50
Battlefield 2 Collection for $5.00

Plus more of the usual goodness.

I can't speak for Darksiders specifically, but in all of the Third-Person action games I've played on the PC the controls have been a significant hurdle. Eventually you get used to the keyboard, but there are always a couple actions that are a complete pain in the ass to do, their keys being awkward to hit.
Yeah, I definitely recommend investing in a controller for Darksiders, specifically just so that you can have something to fling in rage during the boss fight with Tiamat. Plus there are just a lot of QTEs and platforming that might not work well using a keyboard.
You ought to be able to find a wired 360 controller somewhere for pretty cheap. Those work GREAT for PC games.
I'm wondering if it'd be cheaper to find a wireless adapter for my existing wireless 360 controller.
If you buy a game that you already have so you can get the other games that come in the bundle cheap, do you have to uninstall what you already have and then reinstall the steam bundle?
No, every game is listed in your library separately, so you download them separately. I imagine if you already own the game, it doesn't do anything.
Splatterhouse is $26 on Amazon. Enslaved is $20. From all accounts, those prices are EXACTLY what those two games are worth.

So of course this happens the week I have no money.
Thanks for the heads up on SPLATTERHOUSE. Can't wait to play it.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 for $7.

With Steam, specifically, I'm almost positive it will give you the option to gift out a game that you already own if you purchase it a second time in a bundle.
Lots of second chances on some good deals at Steam today.

It does sometimes, but not always. This week, for example, I bought the Monkey Island SE bundle, which is 1 & 2. I already own 1, but it was $3.74 for the bundle, so whatthehell. Anyway, it specifically noted on the purchase screen that I wouldn't get an extra copy of 1 to gift.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition only costs 3.99€ for today. If you're interested in RPGs with actually challenging and almost impossible to game moral choices you have to buy it. Seriously. There's none of the usual "Do I pet the kitty and use its magical happiness rays to cure cancer or do I set it on fire and burn down an orphanage with" dilemmas.
I love this deal so much, I posted about it twice.
Amazon has a ton of games for download for 75% off.

I avoid The Witcher on Steam and it's on sale again here. I'm tempted, but the problem is I've been SO BAD about finishing games lately. I still have Dragon Age and Alpha Protocol mocking me.
I got Red Dead Redemption on sale at Target for 39.99. Can't wait to finally play it.
Steam has the Serious Sam HD bundle for $3.99, definitely grabbing that one. And Machinarium looks more than worth $2.99.
Machinarium is totally cool. It looks great and has a fantastic soundtrack. It's an adventure game through and through, so some of the puzzels are really, uh, shitty.
Just grabbed the King's Bounty Platinum Edition from Steam for $8.74. They've also got all Crysis games at 75% off, but the rest of the choices were a little underwhelming to me.

Serious Sam was totally worth the four bucks yesterday though.

Thank you for the heads up!

Today's Steam Sales:

Hard to pass up on Swords and Soldiers/Greed Corp...Also nabbed The Ball.

Can't believe how low Kane and Lynch 2 price has been slashed so soon after release; 5 bucks is a reasonable price to try it out. Amnesia is a steal today for those who haven't experienced it.

What's the word on that? The price is hard to question, but the reviews I've seen are all over the place.
This thing is almost over, right? Right? I canna take much more of this. The haul so far:

Lara Croft Guardian Of Light
Bully Scholarship Edition
Dragon Age Ultimate
Plants Vs. Zombies GOTY
Amnesia: The Dark Descent

for ~$45. Please let there be nothing else for the rest of the sale. That means "please don't sell New Vegas for $25 or less".
I think the sale ends Jan. 2, with the last day probably being a "best of" like they did on Christmas.

And yeah, this thing has raped me hard.
Not sure on the quality of The Ball, Richard. A couple of friends gave it a spin, thought I'd do the same unseen.

My terabyte drive is now full because of this damn sale. Mostly made up of gifts from former coworkers this holiday season. Had to delete the half-lifes, crysis', call of duty's, and the telltale adventure games (sam n max/monkey island/strongbad) just to make space for some of the new stuff. In addition to relocating previous installed stuff to other hard drives. Not that I have a terabytes worth of games (assorted mp3's/video's round out the space).

Just too much gaming to go around - not counting the xmas stuff I got for the wii, ps3, and 360. Think I could effectively not buy anymore games for the next 2-3 years.
Any of you guys ever tried out Zombie Driver? It looks like basically driving around in a vehicle destroying zombies. Looks like fun.

Limbo is discounted to 800 points today only (Dec 31st) on XBox Live. It's normally 1200 points, so that's a pretty good discount if you ask me.

That's what I'm waiting on. I missed the RDR stuff, but I grabbed Monday Night Combat and a few others.
Man, for $1.70 on Steam, Flight Control is pure evil.
All set to nab the my final purchase on this sale, Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga, and half-way through the install my 8800 gts video card dies. Fuuuuuuu...Think the memory went bad/failed, it'll still render things at the lowest resolution but graphical corruption all over the screen (even in the bios).

I can probably order a beefy replacement online that'll arrive in a couple of days. A crumby start to the new year.
This year I was very disciplined. Got only the Europa Universalis III Complete and Darksiders. Gotta love diversity. One is the result of drunken hook-up between Zelda and every Manowar album ever and the other could just as easily be played from inside Excel.
Haha, man, you're making me glad I bought a cheap used PS3 copy of Darksiders, stelios.

I will check it out after RDR.

I think I've spent maybe $15 on the sale this year. My main purchase was BF:BC2 for under $7.

If you have a Frys nearby, right now they've got Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for $19.99 for PS3/Xbox 360 instore.

Pricematched at Best Buy yesterday by asking them to look at the the Frys website for confirmation, so I got the game plus the BB exclusive (free download coupon for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night off PSN, which itself is worth $10. Already got the game, but it's maybe the best 2D action platformer ever in the classic style... and free is free). LOS itself has only been out three months. Fucking score!

Will those BB monkeys price match to Amazon ads?

Fuck yeah, dude. Just did this. Thanks!

I don't think so. As far as I know they only match "local" bricks & mortar rivals, that have the same game in stock (and they usually check that it's in stock). Even then it's at the manager's discretion. I find that a little schmoozing/politeness goes a long way.

Amazon 3-4-2 Sale happening right now. Man, people just up and scooped LB2/ME2 as soon as they were included in this deal.

Ended up nabbing new psp God of War, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Venetica.

Posted this already in the Dragon Age 2 thread, but a lot of Electronic Arts DLC is on sale for 50% off this week on XBL.  I'm not sure if the sale exists elsewhere or not since I saw this as an ad on my dashboard.  Anyway, the Dragon Age Origins DLC makes up a large portion of the sale, so if you were looking to pick it up on the cheap, now's your chance.

The Amazon 3 for 2 deal also has Valkyria Chronicles 2 listed, which might be my favorite PSP game ever.
