These guys aren't going to win any awards for innovation or ingenuity, but their album has been a surprisingly fun way to start 2009. They're yet another 80s inspired band with their main sources of inspiration being a weird mingling of earlier Factory Records and some of the more new wavey stuff like Tears for Fears (although this mostly comes across in the singing).
From The Stars is currently ruling my world (you can hear it here)
When the strings kick in with that kind of great bass work I just want to sort of dance and its weird because this song that sort of sounds like a tribute to Atmosphere by Joy Division (listen to those drums) suddenly (and naturally) becomes a little bit disco.
They keep that weird sort of melachonically anthemic vibe throughout the entire album (the first track of the album Death seems to toe the exact middle ground between Bruce Springsteen and the Killers).
