Them thar 2009 NASCAR Season

Three guys I'm rooting for today in the 500:

Mark Martin, JEFF GORDON (as always), and Jimmie Johnson

Time for 24 to get number 5.

Kenseth tried going for three in a row only to blow an engine a few laps in. Edwards blows up with one lap left. Gordon probably could have contended for the win had he not fucked up on that pit road entry. Seeing Bobby Labonte up front was a nice change of pace. Burton and Bowyer got great finishes so I'm a little more hopeful that the changes RCR made with Bowyer last year haven't affected him too much.

So happy to see Bobby Labonte back up front. I expect good things now that he has that noose known as Petty Enterprises, from around his neck.

Jeff Gordon comes close again! This season better not be like last year, where he had so many great runs but would run out of time or some shit would go down.

Though it was nice to Kurt Busch drive the shit out of that car. Even scrapping the wall twice didn't hurt that thing at all. That sucker was on the rails. Probably one of the most perfectly well tuned race cars I've seen in awhile.

Yikes! What an insane finish to the race today.

Carl Edwards stayed in the back all day to avoid any big wreck and when it came to go on the final restart with four laps to go him and rookie Brad Keselowski (who has only made FOUR previous Cup Series starts) worked together and took off. With three laps to go Edwards and Keselowski had gone from 8th/9th to 1st/2nd.

Coming to the line for the win Edwards moves high and Keselowski takes advantage of the opening and ducks underneath Edwards. Edwards realizing his mistake moves down to block him but its too late and he gets turned by Keselowski, spins, the back end comes up off the ground, Ryan Newman plows into it and then Edwards gets launched into the air, flips around and smashes into the front stretch fence between the track and fans. The comes down, rolls, and catches fire. Edwards climbs out and runs to the finish line so he could "finish the race."

All day he sat in the back trying to avoid the big ones and he gets wrecked literally just before the finish line.

And the video: http://www.nascar.com/video/cup/2009....final.nascar/

I hope Keselowski can back this up. Though he was in the right place at the right time so it's not like this victory was handed to him.

Sad part is Edwards didn't need to block. Lots of people bitching about plate racing. There's nothing that can be done about. If you take the plates off Edwards car goes in the upper deck. Good racing cept for the wrecks.

Yeah, crazy finish. Agreed about removing the plates. We're looking at a death and not a man racing to the finish.

Too bad about my boy Gordon though.

I've NEVER watched Nascar.... until my 3 year old son realized he LOVES racing. So I saw the end of this race and it was beyond crazy.

A good race to start with. Talladega is always a crazy one.

Yikes! What a finish last night. Tony did nothing wrong and if the situation was reversed, Kyle would have been WAY more aggressive then Tony was.

As much as I don't like Kyle, I was really concerned for him. The drivers side smacks the wall at like 190mph he gets rear ended at about 190mph launching the back end at least 8 feet in the air and then gets T-boned in the drivers side at probably 175-185mph. And he just gets out and walks away. Say what you will about the competitiveness for the new style car but the safety on it is amazing. I don't think he woulda walked away from this wreck unscathed in the old model car.

Another thing Kyle needs to do is open up with the media more. He declined to comment last night after dumped and losing the race. I understand he hates to lose but suck it up, tough guy. How long until payback happens?

Kyle Busch v. Tony Stewart. Now that should be a good feud.

I heard about that accident last night while on the phone with my parents after my stepdad started hollering gibberish in the background and all I heard was something about Kyle Busch. I swear to god they both become more unintelligible when this stuff is on.

A Toyota wins at Michigan Speedway in Detroit. Home of the Big Three automakers. I'm surprised the suicide rate among NASCAR fans didn't spike. But anyways, good for Brian Vickers and the 83 team. They deserved this win probably two years ago. I'm glad that team is coming together and really putting themselves out there.

Jeff Gordon pulls off a second and Earnhardt Jr for once finished in the top 5! Without any damage on the car!

The best thing about NASCAR this year has got to be Jeremy Mayfield and his crazy-ass family.
They really need to make a movie about this.

This season has been a little lacking but theres been some really solid races. I'm sure things will pick up soon.

Also, I gotta give a shout out to NASCAR Truck Series driver Ron Hornaday. % wins in a row! No one has done five in a row in a National touring series since Richard Petty and Bobby Allison did it back in 1971. He's going for six in a row tonight.

So, I don't know, somebody went to the White House yesterday. The winner of something , I guess, but that's not important. They interviewed the President for Sportscenter and it has been airing this morning, and that's where we arrive at my question - Who is that pair of legs on the left?

What are your guys picks for this weekends race up at Bristol? It should be a good one on such a short track. According to Nascar.com Busch is the favorite, even with his recent slump. Check out the predictions here.
