Amazing Race - Season 14 - Page 2

TV Guide interviewed Mike and Mel after they were eliminated, and they had this to say:

Quote:
TVGuide.com: Were you close to them at all?
Mike: We were friendly with everyone. Toward the end, people got more stressed. ... Some people got really into wanting to be ahead of everybody at every stage, so it was aggravating.
Mel: Yeah, Luke was exasperating. He was unhappy most of the time. He was constantly yelling at his mother — yelling in his deaf way. It was amazing how he picked on her.
Mike: He was worse than Jaime, I think. He would see you in your cab getting ahead and suddenly he'd be snapping his fingers at the driver's mirror to go faster. It's one thing when you're in last place, but when you're ahead, it's like, you're not enjoying any of this. ... I think he put a lot of pressure on himself. Our theory about why Margie passed out is that he wouldn't let them buy food or water along the way. He wanted to hoard the money, which is smart, from a strategic point of view. But at some point, her body caved.
So if the two nicest guys in the race felt that way about Luke, I'd say Keisha and Jen were probably justified in being ticked.

Keisha was right to call Luke a Bitch, cause that's what he was acting like.

I understand an all female couple has never won the Amazing Race. Well, I hope that streak ends this year, cause I'm rooting for wither of the all girl teams to take it!!

I can't tell you how hard I laughed when the cheerleaders were jumping with joy that they had finally won a trip only to have Phil say the leg wasn't over!

I was also pretty happy that douchebag Luke stole the roadblock from his mom and then cried like a bitch the whole time.

I wanna root for Tammi and her bro, but they are so clueless sometimes. The name of the challenge was "Sync or Swim" yet they seemed completely clueless that points were awarded for landing their jumps simultaneously.

As for Kisha and Jennifer, I don't particularly like them but I don't hate them either. I really want an all-girl team to win, and by default they get my vote over the ugly American cheerbitches.

Greatest roadblock ever.

I got the feeling they just suck at all things swimming related.

And gymnastic related. And fishing. And hiking mountains. Seriously, how they still in the race? They pretty much suck at everything except being lawyers.

this has been the first Amazing Race that I've watched the full way through, and I'm loving it so far.

Luke really needs to get a grip, and I hope they get their comeuppance. Not everything is about your being deaf. The sisters were totally in the right during the altercations.

I can't tell you how happy I'll be when the Tammy and Victor leave China. It's exhausting constantly hearing "because we speak the language". The finale to this episode was a kick into the face of the redheads, whom I'm growing to like.

can't wait to see who wins. So what's the deal with the live final episode? Will they just show a taped episode? Or is there still one leg that needs to be completed?

And we don't even know that for sure. I presume their Chinese is decent, however.
Actually, the Asian sibs are the only team left I'm rooting for. Margie/Luke are petulant and play the victim card, the cheerleaders are Ugly Americans to a T and Keisha/Jen said some horribly racist shit at the airport last episode by referring to "stupid look" all Chinese have. So, go Tammy and Victor, I guess.

The air totally went out of this season, though, when Mel and Mike left.

Yeah, Mel and Mike were the team to root for. They were genuinely nice and appreciated the opportunity they had to be on such an adventure. They truly enjoyed not just competing in a game, but traveling the world and experiencing different cultures.

I have to say this season pretty much blows in comparison to previous seasons in terms of the challenges. They used to be so cool, literally death defying feats, and now they are lame shit like fitting dentures into foreigners mouths, stacking flour bags, and enduring a massage. The challenges on the whole haven't been all that adventuresome.

I felt pretty bad for Keisha and Jen when confonted with a huge fear of the water. I knew a guy in the army that was the same way. For whatever reason he never learned to swim which is common enough I guess(hard to fathom living in Florida) but he was terrified of even being in the shallow end of a pool. Saw him freak out one time when we had to do a swim test and while he didnt cry like Keisha, it was pretty bad.

But yea, I agree that the challenges feel pretty weak this season. For the most part they are all just rush jobs with little skill involved or just poorly thought out(why even bother compare a teams swim time to Michael Phelps?). Here's hoping this season is just a fluke in that regard. As another long running reality show, does anyone know if Survivor suffers from the same problem? I havent seen a recent season to compare.

This season of Survivor has been pretty great so far.

Survivor is at the top of its game this season. Great character types, great challenges, and smart people playing really strategically.

Man, that pee cost a million dollars!

Tammy/Victor for the win, please.
Yeah, after eating scorpions and larvae, I would think peeing yourself to stay in the race would be a no-brainer.
Yeah, I have one question for Jen: Was it worth it?
Of course, if Tammy and Victor don't u-turn them, we're not even talking about this.
If Jaime wins the million dollars for exemplifying the worst stereotype of boorish Ugly Americans, it will undo everything that Obama has been trying to accomplish in foreign policy.

Most disappointing outcome yet. I'm proud of Keisha and Jen for actually accomplishing that waitering challenge. Pronouncing Mandarin correctly is hard.

Things I Learned From Last Night's Amazing Race: Chinese people will literally eat anything. They are the billy goats of humanity.

You obviously didn't see the Madagascar episode from a few seasons back where they had to eat camel head.

OR...Indian people, didn't you see Temple of Doom?

Oh, and Jen did flush a million dollars down the toilet.....literally.

Can't say I really have a horse in this final leg of the race. I guess I got to go for the cheerleaders, certainly not for their attitude or character but at least they're good to look at.

And Taxi Karma comes back to bite The Cheerleaders in a big way. They'd have probably won if it hadn't been for a cab company who seems to think actually knowing the places its passengers want to go constitutes being a "personal concierge".

I also don't understand why the other two teams didn't think to get the pole up on their shoulders while carrying the pig when they both saw Margie and Luke just cruise past them that way.

All in all, that was my first complete season of watching the show, and I had a ball with it. Glad to see Tammy and Victor win it, and glad for the decision to put Jamie in a bikini.

My wife actually got me into this show and I've been watching it for a few seasons now. It always seems that the team i pulling for ends up getting ousted so by the time they get to the final 3 I'm like ughhhh, don't really care who wins.

Its def. a great show and only 'reality show' of this sort that I can actually sit through.

I was pulling for the cheerleaders but, as Dickson said, Karma caught up with them in Maui. Glad that Luke and Marge didn't win, simply bcause he acted like a spoiled brat and his mom didn't slap him across the head which was long overdue.

This season has probably had the most amount of scantily-clad flesh in it, and for that, I applaud it. The best team of the three won, so that's a bonus. For those of you just getting on The Amazing Race bandwagon, there have been several truly loathesome teams that ended up winning, so I'm glad that didn't happen this year.

I'm still trying to figure out what roadblock Luke thought the surfboard with the sunglasses-wearing neon skull corresponded to. Based on this, as well as his inability to figure out that the Russian writer was Checkov, I'm concluding that he just isn't that bright.
He just gets frustrated too easily. He was rolling on the surfboard challenge, and then the first little misstep sent him off the rails.

The EW recap does not mince words:
Quote:
Then there were Margie and Luke. We were set up this season to think of them as inspiring, but then Luke became a bit of a dick. This certainly set up a moral quandary in choosing who to root for.
I didn't give a shit that Luke was deaf. This guy was the most spoiled and dickish character in recent memory. My money was on Tammy and Victor and I'm glad they pulled it off. I wanted Jen and Kisha in the finals, but with Jen's meltdown in the pool, their leaving their travel docs back at the dock and Jen pissing, they deserved to be left out I hate to say. I almost threw something at the TV when she did that.

Glad Tammy and Victor won. They truly were the best team (save for Mike and Mel). Despite Victor starting off quite dickish, he really turned his attitude around. It was telling that the show spent so much time on the pig challenge going between Tammy and Victor and Cara and Jamie. Whereas Victor spent the whole time encouraging Tammy and reminding her that she was stronger than she thought she was, Jaime spent the whole screaming at Cara for being a pussy and reminding her "this is for a million dollars". Luke can fucking suck it.

On a side note, I spent several weeks in Maui last August and the Hana Highway is THE easiest place to get to and EVERYONE knows it. As the cheerleaders said, there are only two lanes. All the cabbie had to do was get to the entrance of the highway and go forward instead of trying to figure out directions to the surf shop. And everything can be seen from the road, so while there may have been a chance of passing it, it would have been slight.
