Nothing is more satisfying in gaming than a good Day of Defeat score.

When you manage to conquer the European laggers (no offense, but you do have a distinct advantage) and the game's perverse weapon mechanics, (in addition to being able to be killed from multiple vantage points you can't cover by yourself, unless one has good teammates) scoring well in this game must be even more meaningful than a good Quake II rampage; take into account that I'm only comparing these online rounds with that of other first-person shooters.

Anybody else (still) play this? Frustrating as it can be when considering your gameplay on an individual rather than team basis (usually the kill-to-death ratio will be almost equal), it is more frustrating to other players to kill an entire team in this game than any other FPS I've encountered; and therefore there is a certain, enjoyable technique this game demands, though the guns are still too wonky.

EDIT: Yes, I realize I contradicted myself...

Shit, this takes me back. I was a full on DOD addict back in 2001. Really loved playing it until it moved to steam, played it for a while more, loading times on my old pc pissed me off. Last time I checked up on it was when the new DOD with the halflife 2 engine came out. Got it off steam and it felt different. Checked out some DOD community forums and they were going apeshit over the fact that it was so different from the original DOD. Haven't touched it since then but it crosses my mind every six months or so. I really should give it another whirl.

You're right about scoring on this game. Getting multiple kills on one life is just a great feeling. I was ace with the MG's. Found a good spot, and I'd just moe people down. Move. repeat. Remember this one time where I had the mg setup just around a corner and six stooges came running around right into my sights. Got 6 kills in 3 seconds.
