Diamanda Galas

Any fans? I am not one of them. Whereas a band like Joy Division is cathartic to myself, her music is so unrelentingly gloomy (I seen JD relate more to existential despair than simply I'M GOING TO KILL MYSELF!!!) that it's almost death pornography - I say this not to slight porn, just to state that there are specific types of it for everyone. I can't say it is bad or not powerful music, but perhaps with my more naturalistic approach to mortality, her music sounds like it's just trying to scare me that one day it's all going to be over - it is stifling for me to listen to, as one can't do anything when they're alive if they're constantly considering their own death, which may be nothing. I understand why she's considered one of the greatest avant-garde performers, sure, especially when you take into account the AIDS outbreak at the time she came onto the scene - but she just sounds really boring and awful to me.

I've never actually heard her solo work. But I did she her and John Paul Jones together on tour. Got front row tickets to that show, too.

Anyway, it was an interesting collaboration. She has an amazing voice.

What are you referring to?

She contributed some good background vocals to Erasure's self titled album from 1996.

That's all I got.
