Mondays in the Sun (Los Lunes al sol, 2002)

Just another example of the greatness of Javier Bardem, who carries this film already full of stellar talent and solid writing and direction. It takes a look at the lives of several unemployed men and the interesting dynamic that takes places between these friends. As I mentioned Bardem is the best here (as always in his films), but that doesn't mean that the rest of the cast isn't good as well. Luis Tosar and José Ángel Egido both do a good job in creating some of the necessary tension for this movie, and do it well.

Very well done movie easily available at a Blockbuster, etc, and work checking out. Please do.

When he gets mad and corrects the grasshopper and the ant parable is a wonderful moment. Tosar's plot is good example of what works and what doesn't work for me about this film: it's beautifully acted, down to the moment at the end when she shoves her suitcase away, and I love Tosar's face. It tells everything without saying anything, just in general all throughout. But, even though (I think I remember) it was based on a real incident, some of the despair was a little preprogrammed. That's why Santa shines through, he's not.

This played at one of my theatres but I missed it I agree that Bardem is always good no matter if the film works or not.
