Salman Rushdie introduces awesome movies at Emory

Last week Rushdie introduced THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, this week it's THE LEOPARD, and in the next two weeks he'll speak before WISE BLOOD (fuck yes) and GREAT EXPECTATIONS.

All at White Hall, and free.

I saw Rushdie's 'Adaptations' lecture yesterday and it was great; I don't know how long he's talking before each film, but it's probably worth the trek just for that. But hell, it's THE LEOPARD and WISE BLOOD in 35mm, for free.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Russ. I may try to get over there for WISE BLOOD.

Now I get to be jealous.

I will definitely be at that one. I'm way behind on work today, but missing THE LEOPARD is a really bad idea, so hopefully I'll be there, too.

Shit, I'm mad I didn't see this yesterday. Oh well, I'll definitely be attending the next two. Thanks for the heads up, Russ.

Wasn't that crowded, either. Not the best projection I've ever seen (the sound was a little buzzy) but fuck it, it's free.

And it's cool to see someone like Rushdie hanging around afterward talking about how great it is to see a movie like that on the big screen after years of watching it at home.

Emory has a bunch of other good screenings soon. I really need to pay more attention to their calendar. (Like: I missed KUNDUN with Philip Glass? Fuck me, I suck.)

All free: http://www.filmstudies.emory.edu/calendar.html#since

Quick correction: WISE BLOOD is at 8 next Monday, not 7:30.

Also, it conflicts with the press screening of WATCHMEN. I'll be at WISE BLOOD. That's a once in a decade screening. Can't miss it.

That's exactly what I said to my wife when she pointed out that we'd miss the Watchmen screening. Waiting 5 more days to see it is worth seeing Salman Rushdie introduce a John Huston film starring Brad Dourif. It's not even really a contest.

Yeah, there's not even a choice there.

Plus, I'm trying to score an interview with Rushdie about this whole adaptation series, and I need to talk to him that night. But even without that I'd be there.

Man, this is like fucking Sophie's Choice. But the decision is made for me: I have to be at WATCHMEN since Collider needs a review. Enjoy Wise Blood. And Rushdie. Then die.

Ask if people tell him he looks like me.

Matt: Come to Lean's GREAT EXPECTATIONS the Monday after.

Devin: He's a lot taller. But I know it will amuse him, so I'll ask anyway.

It's actually 2 Mondays after (on the 16th).

Oh, right. Shit. In which case it conflicts with TWO press screenings. Hurm.

I've got WISE BLOOD on the calendar. Sounds cool (and worth missing the TWO-HOUR "24" EVENT on Fox.)

Anyone up for some Dickens tonight?

That sounded terrible.

Anyone going to see Great Expectations tonight?

I'm probably going to see DUPLICITY.

But there's the talk Rushdie is doing later this week, either Wed or Thu. Will try to go to that.

I'd pick Duplicity, too. This one's on DVD, and does NOT feature Brad Dourif, so I'll probably skip it, as well.
