Mass Effect 2 - Page 4

Although I think we can all probably agree that both the Mako and the Warthog are *WAY* better than trying to drive the Half-Life 2 buggy with that goddamned Garden Gnome riding bitch next to you.
My only problem with the Mako in ME1 was that the aiming reticle did not take into account the fact that the hull of the vehicle was not level. If you were on an uphill slope, you fired high of the mark, and it you were facing downhill, your shots fell short. It got frustrating when you were trying to fight on uneven ground, and the designers pretty much acknowledged the problem by only making you fight those gigantic worms on flat, open fields.

I've played through ME all the way twice, with a couple other fits and starts.

Now you're telling me there's a lock-on aim feature with the Mako?
I might have been making that shit up. It's been a while, like I said.
I seem to recall there being something like that ... I feel like it was the only way to get the turret to adjust vertically to compensate for parking on a hill.

So bad. My first playthrough of ME1 had my virtuous hero getting all romantic with the blue lass Liara, but it seems even more right and interesting if that same Shepherd gets incredibly attracted to and walks the dirty side of the street with, our new dangerous tatooed friend.

Official Release Date: January 26, 2010.

Looks like I might be calling in sick on January 30th. (I kid...but just barely.)
Looks like a simultaneous PC/360 release as well. Nice.

That'll change. Unless they think their DMR is the shit.
Wasn't the original OFFICIALLY announced to be released of August of 2007?
I'm still waiting to see if there's a collector's edition announced for this. I try to stay away from them in general, but for ME2 I'm prepared to make an exception.

Amen...I bought a CE of the first one AFTER beating the game, just because I liked it so damn much (gotta love that codex that came included, specially for the "How to PC talk to aliens" and the "First Contact war" bit).
Hopefully they'll avoid the cardboard disc holders this time.

You're probably thinking of going into the Mako's first-person aiming mode by aiming with the left trigger and clicking the left thumbstick in. You could use it to aim above and below the turret's normal limitations.

In regards to ME2, I'm hoping it turns out to be the "Empire Strikes Back" of the trilogy.
That's how BioWare's selling it. Although it seems like every trilogy has a second act that the creators want to convey as Empire Strikes Back-esque.
I hope not. Because if part 3 is Return of the Jedi, I'm going down to the Bioware offices with a wheelbarrow full of C4.

Geeks have been wanting a do-over on Jedi for years. Hard to blame Bioware for taking their chance!

So he's either been indoctrinated, gained a helluva lot of dark side points, or is tasked with killing Sarah Connor.
I am the only thinking how kickass it would be if the characters you killed/failed to rescue in ME1 returned for vengeance in ME2?
Ever since I heard the whole "things getting carried over from the previous game" concept, its the best example of what could be done with it.

Since I already have an Evil Default Shepard ready to go for the sequel (or rather, as evil as the first game lets you get, since you aren't truly "evil" in that game), I'm hugely stoked about this potential direction, suddenly.

I really want to believe that, but I don't.
I know this has been said many times before, but I will repeat:

So instead of giving us this great game packed with content and settings for $60, we get a great game a few hours shorter than it should be for $60 or a AWESOME game for $100....

Don't worry, Brad's probably right. Rumors about new worlds and full campaigns remind me of all that talk about GTA IV DLC featuring brand new cities.
No, you get a great game that has planned content additions for the next two years that you don't have to buy.

...but we will buy it anyway because we must have more of that great game.
(I have no problem with DLC as longas it lives to its promises of being something "Extra" that enhances the base game, instead of , say, Namco's use of DLC to milk users dry)
If it actually exists, which I'm dubious of.

And I have no problem with planned DLC content like this. Like this is a good way to extend the life of a game, and I don't feel like they're cutting stuff out to sell back to us later. If they're seriously planning these kinds of releases, I'm all for it.

But I'll believe it when I see it.
I am always dubious of DLC thats been anounced before the game is even released. I guess I figure it's not extending anything if could just be included into the game before it's released.

Of course that doesn't mean I won't buy it when it comes out, it just means I wished I would get more for my money on the initial purchase.
They've just announced plans and the kind of DLC they want to do after release. They haven't announced any concrete DLC packs available a week after launch.
well in that case I read it wrong
My only concern with ME 2, and this is not set in stone: characters, like wrex, seem to have cameos. More like NPC type deals...not sure what to think.....

No matter what, day one purchase
For most developers, DLC now has its own budget and scheduling (and sometimes its own team). Especially in the case of large-scale DLC, it's going to be extremely rare for DLC to represent "intentionally cut content".

Either way, it's not really worth worrying about. If the boxed game is worth the money, who cares if they cut something? If it's not worth the money, who cares what else they're trying to sell?

Im going to have to go back and try and recreate my original Shepherd and run through ME1 again completely in time for this sequel, my original Commander became so iconic for me, that when I think of Mass Effect I think of him. The second time felt like I was playing an imposter.

Waldo Shepard is still out there.... somewhere.

Collectors' Edition. My initial reaction to this is bleeechh, but I'm such a butthead for the first game, so I dunno.
The only collector's editions I'll consider buying for any games at this point are for Blizzard titles, because they put serious effort into packing those to the gills with worthwhile extra stuff. I mean I love, love, love Mass Effect, and can't wait for 2, but this CE is just more of the same we've been getting for years now, some download codes and a boring "featurette" and a useless tin case that only ends up as clutter.

If they actually start putting in worthwhile content (which Muzyka implies, although that might just be noise), they'd be so much more attractive. The only CE I've ever bought was the big-ass GTA IV lockbox with duffel bag. I actually use the duffel bag more than the game, so win there, I suppose.
The thing that is always annoying is how much more interesting the CE Box Art often is.

It's like they intentionally pick really horrible box art for the standard edition so you're tempted to get the collector's edition just so you don't have to stare at it.

I bought the CE of the first game, for some reason. I've since thrown away the tin because it's a waste of space, and I don't think I've even touched the other stuff.
Does anyone really give much of a shit about box art aside from marketers now, though? I mean, I don't hang my 360 cases on the wall or anything, they just go in a stack next to the console.
Well, I see the box enough that I wouldn't mind it not looking like complete garbage.
Granted, box art should be pleasing and eye catching to promote sales in the store, but once I buy a game, I really couldn't give less of a shit. I'm not buying it for a clamshell case to cherish forever.
Generic adventure lady's camel toe on the standard box art is certainly eye-catching.
I'm sorry, I can't tear my eyes away from that Krogan's codpiece.
I still kinda love the box art just because of its sheer corniness. It's like box art for an NES game.

Me too, and I'm just now noticing the Krogan's dangling nub.
The Krogan's renegade move will be to fuck someone's face until they barf like in all those gonzo porno movies.
