Yeah, it kinda had to be that way anyway. I'm sure the game has a "default" setting that represents the "official canon" of Mass Effect. I'm also betting that some decisions we think might carry over in an important way might not be as important as we think (Like say, the Rachni Queen).

The only reason I say that is because arguably by the time you get to the all-but-inevitable Mass Effect 3 there's so many potential variations between the first two games that it'd be impractical to plug in all the possibilities in a significant manner.
It would also make sense if they're thinking of ever releasing it on PS3 (which unless MS paid a ton for permanent exclusivity, will probably eventually happen).
Same thoughts here....the first game had its share of world changing decisions that would be nightmare to implement as player based choices in the sequel.

I just hope Ashley stays dead.

Just as long as she's dead man.

Im hoping Bioware makes dead Ashley DLC, so everyone will pay for it.

Not according to BioWare.

But then again, with EA now holding the reins, I've been wrong before.
The same thing was said with a number of games that eventually came out for PS3 (Bioshock, Fallout 3 DLC, etc.). And EA games usually sell pretty great well on the PS3. EA certainly isn't going to continue to not publish a game as successful and critically acclaimed as Mass Effect on the PS3 unless MS is making it monetarily worthwhile not to.

"The Stars of Mass Effect 2," at G4.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking, too. The first Mass Effect was originally a total 360 exclusive, until about four months after EA bought BioWare. Then again, I hear they're still getting a handle on the PS3 architecture, so it'll probably be awhile yet before there's a proper port, if one's approved.

I am going to be so creepy once I have my copy of the Yvonne Strahovski Simulator.. err... Mass Effect 2.
The Mass Effect Wiki has a post with the ME1 choices that influences/affect ME2; if it hasnt been posted, here its is, with the choices blacked out for spoilers sake:

Mass Effect 2 allows the player to import their characters from any completed Mass Effect playthrough. This means that all decisions made by the player in Mass Effect will carry over into Mass Effect 2 and have the potential to impact the story. Decisions confirmed to have an impact on the game include:

* The decision to save either Kaidan or Ashley.
* Whether or not the player kills Wrex on Virmire.
* Whether or not the player decides to save the Citadel Council at the end of Mass Effect.
* The player's choice of love interest.
* Whether the player spares or destroys the Rachni Queen at Peak 15.
* The player's treatment of Conrad Verner.
* Whether or not the player completed the UNC: Asari Diplomacy sidequest.
* Whether the player chose to allow the Alliance to conduct experiments on Nirali Bhatia's body.

However, due to massive gameplay redesign, your level will not transfer over to Mass Effect 2 and you will start out with basic abilities. However, the game will acknowledge if you were a level 60 character and if you were a Renegade or Paragon and adapt it in ways that map across to the new system. Also, the physical appearance and class of imported characters can be changed at the start of the game, if desired.

If a player has no Mass Effect save files, Mass Effect 2 will start with an introduction sequence which, in combination with interactive decisions made by the player, introduces new players to the storyline and establishes a “canon” backstory
post #413 of 1510
I'd be fascinated to know what that 'canon' backstory is actually.
The mention of "interactive decisions made by the player" likely means it'll play out like the beginning of KOTOR 2, but probably with a few more options. The game will ask you some very basic questions about what might have gone down in the first one.

"I can't remember...did Shepard do Plot Point A or Plot Point B?"

"Whatever happened to Character X?"

It'll probably mostly be related to the outcome of the council. Some big decision that establishes you as having been either Paragon or Renegade.

Also:

The Rachni Queen's gonna be making a comeback appearance in ME2 (assuming you didn't kill her)? And the Indian Marine-chick's husband? Very interesting. Didn't think those small game moments would even have any type of real impact in the sequel, but wow.

But wasn't Conrad Verner that stalker-douche you run into aboard the Citadel?

Yeah, he was the guy who bothers you near the marketplace. I can't remember what you say to him but I know later on in the game one outcome is that he mouths off to a bunch of turians in Chora's Den and gets beaten up (possibly to death).

That was probably the Renegade path, can't remember what happens if you're nice to him.
Far as I remember, he just sorta sulks and walks off..
I was kinda hopin' Conradmight show up again. He goes home to his wife if you're nice to him. Renegade outcome makes him go off and get himself attacked tryin' to be a hero.
I was genuinely surprised with Conrad Verner in the first game...because I thought for sure he was trying to set me up for something. First he asks for a signature, then a picture of me brandishing a weapon? Not suspicious in the least!

Except...it wasn't. He really was just your biggest fan.

I'll be curious to see how he "returns" in the new game.
Ive finished level 59 replay (damn limited experience system!) to get the carry one choices I wanted, but I'm going to go for a third on "hardcore" just to get a lvl 60th character ready for ME2.
I'll share my choices with you guys, in blacked out text:

* Saved Kaidan.
* Wrex lives, of cpurse.
* Saved the Citadel Council at the end of Mass Effect.
* The player's choice of love interest (None, male character, neither was liked)
* Spared the Rachni Queen at Peak 15.
* Paragon result with Conrad Verner (home to his wife)
* Completed the UNC: Asari Diplomacy sidequest.
* Allowed the Alliance to conduct experiments on Nirali Bhatia's body.

Ugh. Having to decide whether to go back and save that obnoxious council is a tough call. I'm happy with all my other choices, but on that one, I have a feeling the storyline involving the council will be a lot more impressive than one involving just humans. But I really want them to stay dead.

For some reason, your avatar works so well with this comment.

HAHAHAHA. I suppose it does.

And I'm sorry for giving you such a hard time about the whole "throw myself to my death instead of tossing the gas cans over the railing thing." I promise to stop bringing it up soon.

Hey now, that was an epic moment of idiocy; I had no problem with it in the respective thread, but once it got out of there , it became a bit tiresome...but still funny and well deserved to use.
Plus, eventually someone else will top it and we'll put it behind us...unless its me again.

Actually, I meant the whole "Oops, real trailer will be up on the 22th guys!" ending.
But yeah, you have a point there.
I'm just mad that they keep pumping out these trailers when they know how bad we're hurting to play the game.
Yeah, I can't wait to see what these cut scenes look like with Millette's hairless albino Shephard.
Hell, I actually just reached level 60 with my Shepard during my 3rd game play trough today; Im tempted to just do the story and carry over missions for ME2 during this weekend so I have everything set for ME2's save data transfer...unless the 60 level bonus isnt worth the hassle....ive already got a level 59 save with all the choices i want made already.
....you know what, you're right, Alex.
Fuck you, Bioware.
So did the Uncanny Valley theory take a hit with Strahovski/Miranda in ME2? Because so far, her digital approximation is strikingly similar, yet not the slightest bit creepy.
That's because no likeness of Strahovski could be anything but hot.

Don't look at me like that, you know it's true.

Commander Powder was my first thought, actually.
Also, is it me or has Bioware been a bit hush about the romance in the game this time? Hopefully it will be a bit more diverse than the last one.
Because i say its high time we learn what Quarians look like, dammit.

PS: Does anyone know if the background choices from ME1 will affect ME2?

So far the only all-but-confirmed "romance" is the crazy Biotic chick Subject Zero (Her intro trailer included dialogue and a couple quick-cut shots that made it pretty clear she's a "romance option."

However Miranda is probably all but a given, and they've mildly teased/rumored that yes, you just might be able to get some Tali-lovin' this time (it may be somewhat telling that when debate about it broke out on the Bioware forums, one of Bioware's own confirmed that no, a Quarian out of their suit wouldn't die from intimate physical contact with a human...which at least implies that they've thought about it). I wouldn't be surprised if Thane (Green Assassin Dude) is a choice for female Shepards (and maybe Subject Zero swings both ways). Come to think of it, they haven't introduced any male human party members yet....
Yes they have, the new male human party member is Jacob, who was the main character in the iPhone game.
As much as I want to be level 60, I cannot do a 3rd runthru of the game......I love it, but whenever I play, i get sucked into all the side missions, and damn, it takes 30 hours. Great game...

For those dying for more, I highly recommend the two novels - if you are really into the story. Great way to hold you over until ME 2

Just pissed we get Grunt instead of Wrex (assuming, of course..........)......!

You guys and your videogame novelizations.
Video games are HIGH ART and therefore novelizations of video games must the BEST ART, Jake.
Could be worse, I think Dragon Age has an actual pen and paper RPG to go with it.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Anywho, had missed the announcement of Jacob, but I suppose that makes sense (and makes him a default romantic interest for a femme-Shepard).

I admit I did read the Mass Effect prequel novel. It was mildly entertaining light reading, but since I was actually reading it prior to the games' release it wasn't until I played the game that I had a full appreciation for its' plot points. (At the time of initial reading I thought Anderson was going to be the main character in Mass Effect, as the novel explains his brush with near-Spectredom and how Saren screwed him over).

Didn't read the second novel, though.

Don't read the novels, people. This should tide you over until ME2:

The rapegangs of Rayya had wounded Tali where it hurt the most, especially on cold Feros nights like this one. Her precious cloaca had been salvaged, but not without the help of cybernetic implants; past lovers had found her vulva too severe, which accounted for many lonely nights during the pilgrimage. But not Shepard. To Shepard, her cloaca was the vellum upon which he wrote love.

Her cloaca was haven. Her cloaca was home.

With a deft flick of a finger and a twist of a knuckle, Shepard removed Tali's nanogirdle. It collapsed to the deck like a pistachio shell.

It truly, truly is.

I quiver with anticipation for the next chapter.
