3D Festival in Minneapolis

The Parkway Theater in south Minneapolis is hosting a two-week festival of old school 3D starting March 6th. The lineup consists of House of Wax (Vincent Price version), Gorilla at Large, Miss Sadie Thompson, Inferno, The Mad Magician, and (best of all), Dial M for Murder. Full details here.

If interested, I've also written an article on the event here.

Thanks for the tip! It's too bad that they couldn't scrape up a copy of 'Treasure of the Four Crowns', though.

I had to look that one up, Judas, as I didn't know Four Crowns was part of the oddly anachronistic 80's 3D boom. This particular fest is going to be concentrated on the 1950s, but an 80s series could be fantastic: Jaws 3D, Friday the 13th Part 3, Amityville 3D. Was there some kind of horror movie regulation in the early 80s that every third film in a series needed to be 3D?

And not to forget Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone.

There was a cartoon in the 80s that was in 3D as well. The name escapes me, but it was essentially a rip-off of 'Star Wars' in almost every way.

I'd be all over an 80s 3D fest.

You wrote a nice article, by the way.

The guy who starred in Comin' At Ya! and Treasure of the Four Crowns also produced the films, and designed the lenses used to make the films.

I present to you Starchaser: The Legend of Orin.

I spent entirely too much time tracking that down.

By the time this storm is over, you'll end up owing me an entire liquor store.

Can't go the opening weekend as I have a sci-fi- con to go to. I usually go to the Parkway when they have the film noir series. Will have to see this over the week and a half that will be left. The Parkway was the first theatre I ever went to by myself. I saw Disney's Swill Family Robinson . My sisters and I thought it was so awesome we stayed and watched it again--for no money!. Of course we got in trouble when we got home after dark.

Okay folks that was Swiss Family Robinson.

Absolutely do not miss Inferno. Totally engrossing film with a great Robert Ryan performance. Mad Magician is a gem too.

P.S. One reason there aren't any '80s films on this program is that those movies were all shot in the single-strip 'over/under' format, which requires a different projection setup from twin-projector interlock.

I saw Treasure of the Four Crowns way back when it came out and Loved every second of it and I remember the 3D being pretty great. I was bugging my friend who runs a midnight series at the Cedar Lee in Cleveland to bring it in, but he said it was hard to get. We ended up going with Parasite instead and that was a blast with a decent sized crowd.

So, did anybody go?

I overspent at my Sci-Fi con and had no money to spend on movies. This was a dammed shame since the Parkway needs the support.
