Having seen the film for a second time this last weekend, I can't get it out of my head. [GaryOldman]EVERYONE[/GaryOldman] needs to see this.

Check this:

And an interview with Tommy Wisleau, director, god?

Is this something to watch totally sober? Or after a few drinks, etc.?

I've heard enough people talking about this, plus I've seen the billboard on Highland forever, so my interest has definitely been piqued.
It's like no one in those clips has ever held a normal conversation with any other human being on the planet. I'm not entirely sure this Tommy Wisleau guy is actually from here.

It works sober or fucked up. Because it's just that special. If you do watch it fucked up, make sure to hold on to it, cause you might have to watch certain scenes again whilst sober to be sure they happened.

"Oh, hi Mark!" Now THAT is how you handle a tonal shift.

Incredible.

Jesus wept...how the fuck does someone get the money to do a stunt like that?
So is Tommy Wiseau mentally challenged? I don't see it stated anywhere outright, but it feels like it's obvious.
If being a leftover yuppie douche is a mental disorder, then I'd say yes.

I'm so sad I skipped the screening we had recently. There are going to be more screenings at The Plaza in Atlanta over the next couple months, so local folks should have a couple chances to see it with a crowd.

The more people the better.
Certainly looks fun in 24 second youtube bursts.

Is this indicative of your screening? Ugh.

Ours featured a lot of rewinding.

This movie is the fucking best thing I've ever seen. It is so fun to watch with friends drunk.

Next L.A. Chud gathering!
Supposedly this movie was funded by him smuggling t-shirts or some shit like that.

The florist scene is a personal favorite of mine.

March 17th at the Plaza, Atlanta folks. This is happening.

But the New Bev is doing a midnight showing of Roadhouse. ROADHOUSE!
I curse Netflix daily for not having this movie. I know I should just break down and buy it already, but I just spent cash on my imported Bugsy Malone Blu-ray. I have weird priorities.

ETA: Only $8.49 on Amazon. Fuck it, I can't pass that up.

Too soon! Besides, isn't it playing every Saturday night now?
Holy shit, I cannot stop watching that first clip. That guy is magnetic.

Hope my local Best Buy carries it.
Buying this movie from Amazon.com was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my entire life. This is a movie that must be seen to really understand how amazing it is.
So my friends and I have (4) 24-hour movie marathons a year where 13-14 of us get to choose a movie to show. The next one is in May and I'm extremely excited to have picked THE ROOM as my choice.

I watched it a few nights ago with 2 friends just to see how well it'll go over with a crowd of about 25 and man, it's going to kill.

While there are a few spots where it cools off and gets a little boring, the amazing parts are so good that it carries the film for a long time in your head.

God I hope Wiseau puts out a new movie sometime.
Just saw this. Amazing.

Can someone tell me what the significance of throwing spoons at the screenings is? It's possible I missed something, but I don't remember seeing any spoons in the film.
They have framed pictures of spoons by the phone.
I saw all the clips over Christmas with my brother after reading an article about the movie. My favorite scene is when he goes to get the flowers and says hi to the dog. I don't know why, I find that hysterical.

Is it true that Lisa has a bone stick out of her neck in one scene for no reason whatsoever? When/why/how does that happen? I saw the scene where Lisa (hysterically) breaks up with Wisleau and I figured that was the end. Does god crack her neck in punishment or something?
I just watched this last night with some friends and had an amazing time. I don't remember any bone sticking out of Lisa's neck, though with all the vodka and laughter in my living room I might have missed it.
The actual camera rig in the documentary with the 35mm camera next to the HD camera is funnier than anything in the movie.

Please tell me it's Rabin. Oh God, do I want to read what Rabin has to say about this.

I believe it's Tobias who does The New Cult Canon feature. But honestly, all of their film writers are great so who can complain?
Yeah, it's new Cult Cannon. It's no Year of the Flops but it's a good column.
Anyone see Tommy Wiseau on Tim & Eric?
His Tim & Eric episode was great.

"I was walking on the street and one person say: 'Do you have a job? Do you need a job?' And the person say... I say to them... to him: 'Yeah I need a job.'"

That could be from his documentary.
Our second Atlanta showing was last night. They had a pretty good turnout, though it wasn't PACKED like I heard the first one was. Still, plenty of laughter and cringing and backtalk. I had a good time.

Regarding the bone in Lisa's neck-- it's not like she has a bone sticking out of her skin, but there's a head-n-shoulders shot of her facing the camera (talking to her cute girlfriend, I think?), and certain things she says trigger this WEIRD frogbulge on the side of her neck. It was really disturbing.

The flower shop scene is really amazing.

Can someone please explain "the tuxedo scene" in any sort of logical way?
This movie is a mess. A glorious mess. I think Wiseau tried to explain the Tuxedo scene in an interview on the dvd, but whatever he said didn't make sense to me. But after watching it it's obvious that when Wiseau says that the humor is intentional is bullshit. But I now want to make everyone I know watch it.

The AV club gets in on this:

I am *this* close to going tonight. And drinking Scotchkas.
This film was made by aliens who tried to imitate humanity. Has to be. It's so damn consistent in its awfulness.
Dre- hold off on seeing it again. I ended up seeing it twice in 3 months and it was definately a poorer time the second go round. I think once every 6 months would be perfection.

It would be more for the experience of seeing it with the crowd. Though I think Tommy went to NY for the big screening there, so he may not be back in town/up for it. Also, my DVD is on loan, and you have to get that shit signed.
So is this a situation where you have to go and "experience the crowd" at midnight, or would watching the DVD with some friends be just as good?
Adult Swim will apparently be airing this tomorrow at Midnight, so that's probably your best bet to catch it if you don't live in one of the cities that screens it regularly.
Holy crap, thanks!
That works. Thanks for the heads up.
There's a fantastic, surreal interview with Wiseau up at the AV Club (with audio clips!).

Quote:
AVC: So what you’re saying is that women these days have a lot more power, but a lot of them don’t use that power?

TW: Exactly, thank you very much. I don’t know if you agree with me, but besides The Room, I can send you hundreds, and I’m not exaggerating, hundreds of different situation. And let me tell you… “I want to be fireman,” the women want to be firemen. Well you know what, you can be president, for God’s sake, but use your charm. You see, I always say we need in society, it doesn’t matter if you like girls, you don’t like it, it’s irrelevant. But we need colors, different colors. In acting, you would call colors.
