help me remember this toy

This was a series of small action figures. I think they came from Japan to the States.

They were humanoid animals with cyborg parts and staff/pole weapons. They had this chest plates that had symbols on them, and they might have glowed or something..

They came in packs of twenty or so. They were fantastic for using on tabletop wargames....

Thanks.

Yeah, man, I think you're talking about Visionaries: Knights of the Magic Light.

I used to have one of them a long time ago.

EDIT: Or totally not.

I think he was talking about the battle beats... but looking at the Visionaries, damn they just don't make toys like they used too!

Well this thread begs the question - who write the Wikipedia entry for "Battlebeasts?"

Yeah, remember back when toys could actually fire projectiles? It was spring loaded death for any opposition your action figure had to face. Now it's sorta wimpy because kids are stupid and keep getting them in their eye.

The BEST toys for firing projectiles: The Shogun Warriors

I had Mazinga, the one in the middle.

Cool! I had Raydeen and Gaiking!

Godzilla was tough as shit to find, so I never had that one.

EDIT: Raydeen and Gaiking are to Mazinga's right, your left... in order :P

I'm pretty sure we got shit in our eyes. Our parents and grandparents just told us to suck it up.

THEN:
'What happened?
'I fired a projectile in my eye.'
'Are you OK?'
'Yes, it stings a bit.'
'Well, you'll get over it. I bet that you learned not to do that again, right?'
'I guess so.'

NOW:
'What happened?
'I fired a projectile in my eye.'
'Honey, we have our lawyer on speed dial, right?'

You forgot to add...

"Call our local news affiliate, so this never happens to another child again! Won't these toy-making monsters think of the CHILDREN??"

They had a great slogan:

BATTLE BEASTS - BATTLE FOR THE FUN OF IT!

Also, I took this photo at a local music/art venue last month!

Regarding those Shogun Warriors, why does the one second from left appear to have an H.R. Puffenstuff character for chest armor?
I think I still have out in a box in a shed a Battlebeast. he was some sort of white feret thing with blue armour, which confused me as a kid because when you heated up his little chest pad his symbol was fire. Why would it not be ice.
Might see if I can find him tomorrow.

Saw an ad recently that totally reminded me of Battle Beasts, called GORMITI (sounds like a Chef Boyardee meal in a can). But they complicate shit with cards and what not. All I needed as a kid was my rock/paper/scissors heat-sensitive decal! Actually I determined who won the battles based on how cool they were. Got me thinking of M.U.S.C.L.E.

Speaking of identifying a toy from back in the day...

I had a small stretchy monster that could be pulled apart and then healed in a volcano/crypt with slime. Never worked, but it was gross and fun. Anyone know? And no, it wasn't my penis.

I had Mazinga as well. His brain was a little spaceship that came out.

I had both of these...

Actually, I'm pretty sure I had the exact same toy collection that Tom Atkins/Stephen King's kid had displayed in his room at the beginning of Creepshow.

I saw that ad too and thought the same thing. It is funny to think that Battle Beasts were just a way for a corporation to sell kids rock/paper/scissors.

Did you know they brought MUSCLEs back, complete with a cartoon, a couple years back?

Ya know my vague "Volcano/Crypt" description wasn't bad...

I had G-Man (still do, minus the hand), but no Rodan.

And just because Manglors remind me of another of my long-lost childhood favorites... The Other World! I loved those crappy He-Man knock-offs! Raidy, you truly were King of the Jipps.
