It only ranked fourth!

Portland Oregon was number one? Clearly the most forlorn denizens of Detroit were too feral to be approached for such a survey.

That's surreal -- I know someone moving back to Portland to "start over".

Or perhaps they're happy in their feral-ness?

How the fuck does Portland with it's easy mass transit outrank Detroit aka The Urban Wasteland? And Portland has worse weather than Detroit or Cleveland?! Fuck this noise. This is a bullshit poll.

Yeah, I really do not understand the Portland thing. I love that city...easily my second favorite after Austin.

No sales tax for crying out loud!

Only hang up I have about Portland, you're unable to pump your own gas.

So Cleveland's number 5, seems about right.

Then drive through NJ. (Hey, Newark and Camden didn't even rate!)

Only two states in the Union that do that, right?

There's a Getty station near King Of Prussia, PA that's still full service. I stop there when it's too effing cold to pump my own.

There's also a station in Lapeer, MI (about two hours northwest of the dreaded D) that offers this. They don't ask for tips or anything, so I never saw what the problem was - I get to sit in my car while someone else pumps the gas.

The problem is that, in Oregon and Jersey, it's against the law for you to pump your own.

There are full service stations in the BFE areas of Florida. I've passed by them but never stopped at one.

That's... weird. I'm not really sure which side to fall on with this - on the one hand, my self-deterministic side wants to say "Fuck that, let the people pump their own gas how they want to!", but my lazy, let-someone-else-deal-with-it side is saying "It's obligated by law that someone else must do this for me? I love this place."

Also, they offset the cost of paying those attendants by incorporating it into the price of gas.

A Forced Gratuity? I take back everything I said; those places are utter wastelands of depravity and get-rich-quick schemes.

Fuck 'em.

Is it cheaper to pump your own? I paid $1.75 a gallon this morning to fill my car, so how much would I save, if I could, if I pump my own?

None... that station I visit in KOP has regular at $1.94/gal. The Wawa down the street has regular at the same price. The markup is negligable.

That's cheaper than here.
Well, it's New Jersey, Ed. We have so much gas here, some of the young men around here use unleaded for hair care.

Jersey is also the major port of entry for a lot of gas, so it would kind of make sense that their gas would be cheaper because the transportation costs to get it there (as opposed to middle of nowhere Wyoming) would be a little cheaper. That's all hearsay and speculation, though.

But we do get this out of the deal:

That shirt does indeed a deserve a "Fuckin A'".

But it i also cheaper then Cal, and we have oil coming out of the fucking grown. it only cost about 9$ to bring a barrow of oil to market in Santa Barbra county, which is the fucking greenest place on earth. Most of that 9$ cost is fucking regulation.
