God, I didn't realise anyone else had played this bloody game. Someone gave me a copy once, I don't think I got passed the first screen. Getting him to eat the damn beans was a nightmare.

Brilliant title though. I never would have expected a follow up, but that does look pretty.

Well, someone managed to finish it!

I had such a love/hate relationship with this game. I thought the concept was so cool and could make for some really neat puzzles, but the execution was just piss poor. I always got down into the underground and would get trapped somewhere or run out of jelly beans (at least the helpful ones). It always bothered me that I never managed to finish that game. If they fix the problems of the old game, this is a definite buy for me.

I played the hell out of this as a kid, but of course, never got anyone in it. The art for this new one is beautiful. I might dust off the Wii for it.

The original game was fucking horrible. The new game looks pretty nice though.

I most definitely finished this back in the day. I have no idea how much assistance I had--my only cheatin' source would have been Nintendo Power. I guess I can add this to my 8-bit trophy collection along with Mike Tyson and the Speeder Bike level from Battletoads.

I'd guess this was one of the last "authored" games that were largely programmed by one person. I remember a staff of a dozen or so listed in the credits but the game looks, plays, and feels a whole lot like Pitfall II.

Pretty sure I still have the cartridge too.

This game was Hell with beans. I actually didn't get it until the mid 90's, when I went through this insane NES collecting phase, when FunCoLand (remember that place?) used to sell most NES titles dirt cheap. I can't really gauge how far I made it into the game, I made it into the underground, and explored for a good little while, before giving up...same thing happened with Legacy of the Wizard.

The style reminds me of Braid.

Never played it, but I heard the horror stories. Oh, the horror.

Apparently there was a way to beat the game in under five minutes. There's a youtube video of it somewhere.

Yeah, I saw that when I went to the jmub link above. There's apparently some spot one level down from the street where you can stick a hole in the ground, fall to your death, and then respawn right where you died. It allows you to skip like 75% of the game.

That theme song definitely brings me back. Hope they keep it/update it in the new one.
